where: outside, wherever when: day after the storm open starter
Lucas walks down the street, taking note of all the damage from the storm. So much to fix. It's starting to feel like it would be better just to rebuild the whole town from scratch.
He turns a corner and has to put his list away.
"Hey!" he calls out to the person. "You need help over there?"
Lucas gives him a small smile, then takes a step back, sensing the man prefers a little extra personal space.
"I've seen you around too," he replies, blinking away the rest of his tears. "You keep to yourself a lot."
He says it as matter-of-fact, making sure to keep any judgment out of his tone.
He looks down at the headstone, considering the question for a moment. He remembers similar conversations with his mother, especially around Dia de Finados.
"I think for me, it helps me keep the grief in a safe space. If I took it with me out there," he gestures toward the main hub of the town, "I wouldn't be able to help people how I need to. Even if there's no body, it's still a place dedicated to him that can help me carry my grief."
Hollis hesitates for a moment, glancing down at the offered hand before slowly taking it. His grip light, unused to the gesture. "Yeah, that's me." he replied, voice quiet, especially once he learn the other was a sheriff.
He took his hand back, casually rubbing his palm against his jeans, trying to rid himself of the lingering weight of the grieving. "I've seen you around, didn't realise it was for this plot."
His gaze went back to the grave again for a moment, brow knitting in thought. "Does it help? Coming here, I mean? People say it makes things easier, but...I don't know if I believe it."
where: infirmary
when: after kina's autopsy
whom: @ludics Rae
Lucas takes a deep breath as he walks toward the morgue. It's been a long day, and he'd honestly love nothing more than to just head home, take a shower, and go to bed. As much as he wants to make sure everyone is safe, secure, and taken care of, he definitely needs time to himself.
Except there's one more person he needs to check up on. One he needs to handle personally.
He pauses outside the door, bracing himself for anything he might see, then knocks on the door.
"Rae?" he calls through. "It's Luc."
He waits, letting Rae set the pace though he's not taking "go away" as an answer that's for damn sure.
where: town streets | when: midday | whom: open to all
Adrien groans as he slowly pushes the car down the street towards the Chop Shop.
He'd found this while doing a scavenging run with Muz yesterday, just to see what it's like. Everyone he'd talked to was busy today, so he'd worn his tank top, jeans, and sturdy boots today, got the car into neutral, and was slowly pushing it through town.
It had been fine for the first five minutes or so, but now he's mentally kicking himself for not just being patient and waiting for people to help him.
Lucas sighs and rubs his face.
"Okay, how about this: you let me search your place real quick. If I find those bottles, then I take you down, and we sort out your restitution. If I don't, then I leave you alone for the rest of the day?"
CHERRY'S EXPRESSION SCRUNCHES . she tries desperately to think of anyone who might've actually saw her behind the desk that day or anyone who will vouch for her, time be damned . " i mean, whoever the fuck was in the lobby that morning ? i don't know everyone's name, luke ." cherry huffs a bit in exasperation, throwing a hand up before she adds, " i only know yours cause of, y'know ." a shrug as she shifts her weight, letting her hip rest against the doorframe . " continued exposure ."
Lucas keeps his expression neutral, trying not to let his initial disappointment show through.
But then he's interested again.
"What do you mean by that?"
" THAT WASN'T WHAT I MEANT ." the words are distracted . elm twirls the laces tight enough around their finger to make the tip go a bit cold with lack of blood . lucas presses the record button and elm takes little notice of it until the question is address to her . there is a blink as they glance between lucas and the recorder for a moment before leaning hesitantly into the recorder to say the same thing they've told everyone since they've been back . " i don't remember ." a pause before they shrug and add, " ... i don't think they want me to ."
| Rafael Silva & he/him | Congratulations, LUCAS MIRANDA survived another night. The town would certainly feel less safe without a them close by. Not to mention, we can’t lose another TOWNSHIP SHERIFF, plus they’re only 30 years old. Crazy to think, it’s been 7 YEARS since their arrival, though in a place like Oblitus it can feel much longer. Good thing they’re staying at the RESIDENTIAL AREA. Almost like it happened yesterday, they still remember LOS ANGELES, and where they came from. It’s no secret, they were ON A HUNTING TRIP WITH HIS BROTHER, CARLOS when they came across the tree, and is still keeping them up at night. Truth be told, they’re awfully CHARMING and PARANOID, but they’ve survived this long. Well, it’s almost day light again, maybe they’ll play SI SUPIERAS by PRINCE ROYCE this time. Welcome to another night in Oblitus, please don’t open the doors. (caye, 27, he/him, PST) no triggers
-what is their biggest regret since arriving in town?
That he hasn't found a way to avenge his brother and get rid of the creatures. At least then being trapped wouldn't be a living hell. At least then he'd feel more useful as a sheriff.
At least then he could focus on finding a way back to his parents and tell them what happened to Carlos and give them all closure.
- describe your character’s first day/night in town?
He and Carlos arrived in the early hours of the morning, two hours before sunrise. They'd gotten ambushed by the creatures and the only reason Lucas is alive is because Carlos sacrificed himself while Lucas tried to find them shelter.
After the shock wore off, he was taken to the Township Hall by the kind people that gave him shelter.
He asked so many questions, the answers to a lot of them being "We don't know." That frustrates him even more than he was. If his mama hadn't raised him to think and care about the community, he'd have become a hermit. But that wouldn't help anyone. That wouldn't get him his chance to avenge Carlos.
So he takes a residential home and offers to do any and every job that just needs help getting done.

Biography
(cw: cancer, sibling death)
Lucas was born a mama's boy and was always proud about it. His mom, Maria, instilled so many of his loves the things he cherishes, especially being part of and giving back to his community.
That's not to say his father, Andre, didn't have influence on his life. He also shows the importance of helping his community but also taking time for family. He takes Lucas and his little brother Carlos on hunting trips and share the importance of nature.
Andre developed lung cancer and was in and out of the hospital through out Lucas's life, which made Lucas hate hospitals.
In fact, the reason Andre wasn't on the hunting trip with Lucas and Carlos when they found the tree was because he was in the hospital but insisted they go without him.
When they arrived in Oblitus was the worse night of Lucas's life.
He lost his family in many ways. Cut off from his parents, and watching his brother day, giving him a chance to escape.
Lucas had been working toward being a sheriff so after doing his dues for the first year in Oblitus, he quickly worked his way to sheriff rank. And now 7 years after first coming to town, he's still no closer to getting rid of the monsters or finding a way out. He doesn't even know if his dad is still alive. He doesn't know if his mother survived losing her sons.
He will find his answers.
where: sheriff offices when: utp whom: @purgatored Elm
Lucas walks into his office and sets the glass of water in front of Elm.
"Alright," he says, sitting in the chair next to her. He pulls the tape recorder closer and gives her a small smile. "You okay if I record this? That way, I don't have to ask you the details over and over again."
He makes sure to keep his posture casual and open, looking and leaning toward her, not crossing any limbs. He also makes sure not to crowd her space.
Lucas snorts. "With you? I don't think he ever is."
He let's Adam pour him another drink, listening to the nihilistic but strangely comforting speech.
"We drink," Lucas echoes, watching him struggle to light the cigarette.
"I just can't stop imagining that I hear screams coming from out there. Which is crazy because the rain is so loud I wouldn't hear anything anyway."
"When's Jim ever happy?" up until now Adam didn't even consider the real consequences this day would have on everyone who stays alive. He was more concerned with the amount of digging he'll be forced to do first thing in the morning. Not to mention seeing dead bodies, all fucked up, did not get easier with time. In many ways, he was hoping this would never end. "New day, new rules -- this place is letting us know who's really in control. Ain't nothin' we can do about that. Except drink, so....we drink..." he pours him another, and then another one for himself and lights the poorly dried cigarette. "Day will come, 'til then we're better off in here than we would be out there..."
