I had ideas for an Au of the TROD AU or just regular AU that involves the amnesia trope that I'm spinning in my head so I'm gonna post it here for safe keeping.

First idea is permanent amneisa, second is if it was temporary

TWO WAYS:
Instead of Sacrificing their life to free The One Who Waits, something is given in equivalent either at the start of the final battle or the end of the final battle after the Lamb wins or loses, and they sacrifice themselves, but not their soul, but what MAKES their soul. In this case: all memory that makes them who they were. Instead of life force and devotion, it's memory. Narinder is a fully powered and/or shares power with a Lamb who has no idea who he is. They don't know they're a cult leader, they don't know Ratau or Finor or anyone. Their memory goes back to before they were decapitated: the events of the game are wiped from memory and unrecoverable
At this point Narinder could absolutley leave them be or kill them even as they're not a threat and are of no more 'use', but he's....torn up about it, actaully. Didn't think he would be. Now the God of Death newly resurrected has a confused, lone lamb he keeps at his side acting while he acts a guide and a friend, re-running them through the memory while the cult itself struggles to maintain as their leader is no longer fit to serve them, all while Narinder is still adjusting to being outside the afterlife.
The Lamb has to guide him how to adjust to his new future while Narinder has to guide them navigating their past.

Temp amnesia, whether its by magic or by a hard hit on the head will work
Lamb getting amnesia: Memory is set to when they're in the middle of the original game and defeating the Bishops, VERY confused as to why there's not only Narinder in the cult, but his siblings as well, why they're all in mortal form and why the cat is acting very, very strangley towards them
Narinder getting amneisa: Memory goes back to the same point: before the final battle in the misdt of the og game. Very confused as to why he's In This Form, Why his powers are Split Like This, and Why the Lamb is very nervous interacting with him when just a few hours ago they were sleeping in the palm of his hand.
First scenerio has Narinder nervous because all his hatred and anger he normally has does not make sense to the Lamb and he starts hesitating because they dont brush it off like normal, he gets softer, because they're geneuinly dont know whats going on
Second scenerio: Lamb remembers the final battle and the betrayal they both felt, and Narinder doesn't, he's just happy they're both there and so Lamb is very nervous about like 'im so used to him being so edgy and hissy with me, now he's coming up throwing an arm around my shoulders like its nothing and calling me pet names just like before. Will his hatred come back?'

Bonus scenerio for the last one:
Narinder's memory comes back, but he pretends it doesnt for a little while longer because he can be close to them again without the stinging pride of admitting he never stopped loving them when they betrayed each other

A trope that gets to me: 'guard dog' character and their partner who are both fully aware of it and honestly don't care/kind of like it. Someone says "call your guard dog off" and their partner does call them off. That person, their 'guard dog', is someone who is unreservedly, irrefutably loyal to them. Someone undoubtedly dangerous who is willing to kill, to maim, to obey, simply because of their love for one another. There's no manipulation involved— it is loyalty, brutal, dogged loyalty. And it goes both ways.
