When you first started dating Richard it was obvious Richard was more nervous than you were, which seemed shocking to you because he was the guitarist for Guns N’ Roses, he worked with Axl Rose! You had more reason to be nervous than he did it seemed, but as the months went on and the closer the two of you got, you found his nervousness easing away and protectiveness moving in place. You didn’t mind it, he had always been sweet and caring towards you, but whenever you were out in public you found he held your waist a little tighter, pulled you a little closer.

He’d almost always have his hand in yours, or his arm placed over your shoulders. You found his gestures sweet, but you knew deep down something seemed to be eating at him, something seemed to be bothering him. It wasn’t you per se, but you couldn’t exactly tell what had him on edge whenever the two of you found yourselves in a crowd… whenever the two of you were out in public together.

So, one night while the two of you were relaxing on the sofa watching the credits roll of whichever movie the two of you settled on watching, you asked him about it.

He muted the television, letting out a long breath and shut his eyes for a moment before he turned to you, taking your hands in his.

“When we first started dating I wasn’t hesitant because there I had anything against you, you are the most beautiful woman I’ve honestly ever laid my eyes on. I was hesitant because of you… well… you’re younger than me and maybe I thought… I…” He trailed off for a moment, a light shade of pink tinting his cheeks in slight embarrassment. “Listen, Y/n, as silly as it sounded, I’ve always feared once we got close that I’d end up losing you, to someone younger. Someone who could maybe relate more to you and your generation than I could. You’re one the best things I ever lucked into and it would kill me if I lost you—”

“Richard, baby, you will never lose me—”

“Let me finish,” He smiled softly, “And the only way I know best to keep you from leaving is to love you like you are. That’s why maybe I’ve been a little more protective than I should be, even if your generation calls it old school, I’d rather have your handheld in mine, write short letters from time to time, and surprise you with flowers when you least expect it. I want to ensure forever, and not get my head stuck in the clouds believing that actions don’t speak louder than words.”

“Then marry me.” You smiled.

“I thought you said you weren’t ready to settle down quite yet?”

“Richard, I love you, and everything you just said put my mind about the future at ease. I’d love nothing more than to marry you and spend the rest of my life with the sweetest man I’ll ever know.”
