707 and “You can’t banish me! This is my bed too!” :D?

The argument had been juvenile and entirely one-sided, your level of stubbornness clawing to astronomical heights. Your hands made quick work to flick the crumbs and straggling chips from the sheet, deliberately aiming for the side of the bed where you saw the top of Saeyoung’s head and eyes peeking up from.

“Y-You’re so cruel! How can you just throw me on the floor like this?!” he feigned his sobs, the croak in his voice. “It’s so cold down here. Have mercy on my soul! Let me back on the back, I’ll give you a back massage–no, wait! A foot massage and a head massage! I’ll massage you head-to-toe for the cheap, cheap price of letting me back on the bed.”

“Hell no,” you retorted. “Go sleep on the couch and eat your gross chips. I’m so sick of hearing you crunch, crunch, crunch–just crunching them all night!”

“Baby, I can change!” Saeyoung pleaded, jolting onto his knees before swinging a leg onto the mattress. “Just wait, I’ll show you!”

You promptly grunted and swatted his leg away. “I hope your next bag of chips are stale.”

Saeyoung reeled back, fingers splayed across his chest with a look that suggested he was thoroughly affronted. “I see what kind of person you truly are. Ruthless, unyielding, dominating–it’s super hot, honestly–but you can’t banish me! This is my bed too!”

In return for the resolute glare gouging into the side of your head, you merely cast him an exasperated sidelong look before chucking several pillows at his head. “Just shut up and help me get all of your crumbs off the bed.”

You had just ripped the corners of the sheet from the bed when you noticed Saeyoung slowly rising to his feet, pillows tucked between his arms as he turned, almost mechanically marching towards the door.

“Saeyoung…” you warned.

“I’ll just go sleep on the couch, anyway.”

“Saeyoung!”

“But the worst enemy you can meet will always be yourself; you lie in wait for yourself in caverns and forests. Lonely one, you are going the way to yourself! And your way goes past yourself, and past your seven devils! You will be a heretic to yourself and witch and soothsayer and fool and doubter and unholy one and villain. You must be ready to burn yourself in your own flame: how could you become new, if you had not first become ashes?”

Mostly thanks to @emilyelizabethfowl (their reblog contains many of the fic links!! thank u sm) and a few deep dives into my ao3 history, the sources of the quotes have mostly all been recovered! I apologise for not posting them all with proper credit originally, I truly didn't think the post would blow up so much, but the lesson is very much learned :) enjoy!

- number 1 is another merthur fic, called Destiny Ordered You To Die, But I Willed You To Live by ironfamjam (apparently also appears in Filling the gaps, a spiderman fic by the same author!)

-The klance one (number 2) is from reach out for you (break these walls) by Paladin-Pile (UserFromPluto)

- number 3 is a batman fic called Home (jason centered) by Daisybirb

- number 4 is a zukka fic by I'm Not Angry Anymore by team_avatars_eyebags

- two are from The Art Of Burning by hella1975, an amazing ongoing atla following zuko (also zukka but it hasn't quite happened yet) - numbers 5 and 9 to be exact

- number 6 is a hualian fic called No paths are bound by cataclysmic_calamity (originally a thread fic but also fully uploaded on ao3)

- number 7 is a merthur fic called tell me every terrible thing you ever did (and let me love you anyway) by Stardustwrites17 (the quote is also originally from a poem by Sade Andria Zabala or Edgar Allen poe apparently)

- The batman one (number 8) is from Nature and Nurture by lurkinglurkerwholurks

- number 10 is from a steddie fic called let me know (everythings alright) by bexiguess (had too dig deep to find this one - the stranger things phase last summer was no joke 😭)

ALSO there is now a part 2 !! (which I swear is better organized)

Summer Language Plan

OKAY ! So I’ve got quite a bit of plans for language learning this summer and I was thinking if I post it to tumblr then hopefully it’ll be more than just wishful thinking. SO without further ado, here are my plans.

French (reach B2)

finish Dracula by August 31 (6 pages per day minimum)

at least one hour of active learning a day (grammar practice, vocabulary, etc)

at least five new words each day

write 3,000+ word story

German (reach B2)

at least one hour of active learning a day (grammar practice, vocabulary, etc)

at least five new words each day

translate one poem/song/paragraph a week

Italian (reach A1)

at least one hour and a half of active learning a day (grammar practice, vocabulary, etc)

at least seven new words a day

What does active learning look like?

I’m glad you asked, self. While reading books and listening to music is great for language learning, unless there are comprehension questions at the end, I would consider it passive learning. Here are some active learning exercises that are (hopefully) more interesting than just doing plain textbook drills.

write a sparknotes summary for each episode of a TV show or book you’re engaging with. Bonus points if show/book is in a different language than your summaries, because that requires you to interact with new vocabulary.

find x number of vocabulary terms then weave them into a story or poem. Doesn’t have to be long or complex

film or voice record yourself talking about a topic that means a lot to you, then note down what words and grammar you have yet to learn

The Benefits

The Benefits

1 - They’re inexpensive

You can get a small whiteboard on Amazon from as little as £2.00, bigger ones are slightly more expensive starting at about £5.00 but that’s up to your personal preference.

2 - They’re erasable

The best thing about whiteboards is that they’re erasable! This means that you don’t use as much paper - so you’re saving money and helping the environment.

 3 - They’re versatile

There are so many different uses for whiteboards that you’ll never think ‘i dont use that it was a waste of money’

My favourite Uses

1 - Essay Planning

Being a History undergrad, essay planning is what 90% of my life. Using a whiteboard means that I can change the order of my arguments, erase and add details whenever I want.

2 - Mind Maps

Mind Mapping can be super useful when essay planning, planning revision or connecting topics using a whiteboard means that you can easily mind map and erase/change any information easily.

3- To-do lists

Writing a to-do list on a whiteboard is so useful when you complete something just erase it!

4 - Teaching

My favourite method of studying/revising is to pretend to be teaching the subject to someone else, not only does this help you memorise the topic but it also shows gaps in your knowledge. If you can teach a topic then you definitely understand it.

5 - Practicing

If you study maths, for example, you can use a whiteboard to answer practice questions.

My Personal Experience

I have used whiteboards to study since I was in high school, meaning I’ve used them throughout my A-Levels and currently University (about 6 years). When I was revising for my psychology exams my friend and I would bring to college a set of whiteboard pens.

We would go into an empty classroom and use the big whiteboard to write the names of each study, we would then take it in turns to fill in details about the study from memory. THIS HELPED ME SO MUCH! and it was a fun way to study so I 10/10 recommend.

If you have any questions please ask me, also I don’t have stocks in whiteboards I just think they’re super useful!

GLOSS - Global Language Online Support System

This online resource has tons of resources for lots of different languages, and it is totally free!

There are lots of lessons catered to different levels which tailor vocab practice as well as listening and reading comprehension. I would say that the vocabulary and scenarios are generally more geared up towards security/defence and diplomacy, so if you are studying international relations or something geared towards the international sphere, this may be particularly interesting!

GLOSS website with language choices
Example of content and materials for language learners.

Then you can select different types of activities, which you can download onto your computer as MP3s and PDFs. The activities are categorised based on what skill they train. There are reading and vocab activities that help build up knowledge. Although the topics are pretty specific, they are really useful for getting vocab practice in areas that you are not so familiar with!

The activities are diverse and varied, with explanations for answers that were not correct!

There is also a glossary for all the new words, which has an audio file to listen to the pronunciation by a native speaker. This is particularly useful for self study, especially when contact with native speakers is less frequent.

GLOSS - Global Language Online Support System

All in all I really rate the website, the resources are a really great compliment to language studies, and although they are kind of ‘old school’ in their approach, they seem really effective!
