i get that miles being sheltered to punk culture/ideas is an easy assumption, considering his parents' attitude towards gwen, but like. i really really want to pose to you all miles morales the graffiti artist, who's incredibly aware that his dad wouldn't defend him if he was arrested, but still believes in and makes public art. miles morales the black scholarship kid at a predominantly white school that treats him in equal turns like a snowflake, a loose cannon and a charity case, who in one of the novels gets suspended for calling out & starting a protest against his racist history teacher. miles morales who in that same novel gave his own cash to a pickpocket he had to stop after giving him a chance to surrender. miles morales who keeps getting told to shut up & back down but doesn't, even if it's "for his own good". miles morales who after being told he'd never fit into a system that should've helped him said "then fuck your system" and electrocuted the leader.
miles morales might not be punk aesthetically, but he gets it. he gets it more than a lot of so-called "punks" do.

I love themmm ( pt. 1 | pt. 2)
Is it bad that I’ve owned the new SGE book since April and I still haven’t read it? Like, I’d fallen in love with the series. I’ve been reading it for what is essentially six years now - started at 14, now 18. But I feel like there’s something stopping me. I don’t know if it lies more on Sophie or Tagatha. Don’t get me wrong Soman is a fantastic writer but you can see his favouritism towards Sophie and it gets old fucking fast, and you can play favourites but it’s when it affects the character arc it also creates a problem.
Sophie doesn’t learn anything nor face any consequences, despite the fact she’s the root of most - if not all problems because, to put bluntly; she’s a brat. Soman doesn’t acknowledge this. Sure, Agatha will give her a slight scolding but since when does Sophie take her seriously?
To be honest people bitch about Tedros being “on his period.” when he wanted Sophie dead, but I was rooting for him. Tagatha have their problems but Sophie amplifies them.
If Sophie’s not learning anything, then she’s not a good character - long-term at least. And I don’t want to have to force myself to keep reading her bullshit. I physically threw TLEA across my room when Sophie started degrading Agatha. I thank Sophie for one thing and one thing only; The moor scene.
Sophie’s a shit friend, period.
Which leads on to Tagatha. Why can’t these two just be happy? Seriously Soman let them breath for five fucking minutes. I’m sick of them falling out because Tedros takes a bitchfit over something so minute that could be solved in one conversation. Tedros isn’t 14 anymore - which to be honest it’s difficult for me to imagine the characters younger than me because I’ve literally grew through my high-school years with these books.
Edit: It is 2019 and I still haven’t touched it.
They completely missed the point of sophie's character
Sophie was an arrogant, selfish and a narcissistic person behind her sweet facade who didn't believe herself to be evil, who did terrible things including murder as her anger grew. movie sophie on the other hand? She's the "posessed victim" that the mainstream seems to be obsessed with these days
Making her an outcast with agatha was an odd choice, sophie didn't want to get away from a town who hated her,she was tired of her normal life and wanted to go the school of good because she thought that's what she deserves
She did good things (including being friends with agatha) just to change her school not because that she was a nice person, she discovered her evilness and powers on her own not because of rafal (who literally was supposed to remain in the bts and not let Sophie fail instead of brainwashing her) we as audience do know that she really is evil deep down and why rafal saw her potential despite her denial. The movie makes you wonder that what did rafal even see in her? She's a very sympathetic person in the film who goes through hell
She is a great friend towards aggy and only turned against her because of rafal's influence, the scene where she accuses agatha for stealing everything from her feels cheap because there is no build up;she was simply upset and seemed to forgive agatha while reading her letter, while in the book we saw how her jealousy grew over the time to the point she attacked everyone several times and killed all of the wolves and fairies but she barley hurts anyone in the movie, heck one of the first signs of her evilness is when she drowns the beast after he cuts her hair, but in the movie it was lady lesso for some reason and it only makes us feel sorry for sophie. Completely erasing it's meaning. A weak attempt to make her seem like a "bad bitch" in the aftermath when we were supposed to see her true colors
Sophie was such a complicated and complex character but they managed to remove her agency in her own story
school for good this, school for evil that. where's my school for the morally grey?
This is so stupid im crying i love it
