All That Remains. Wild Dogs pulling the guts out of a freshly killed waterbuck. [<— Previous]
A cottage kitchen can look unexpectedly dramatic treated to rich, contrasting colours. Here, green and crimson make an effective foil for the buttery glaze of brown and cream slipware.

White Spotting in European Red Foxes
Here’s another weird color mutation I’ve been finding examples of recently. The top fox was killed in the UK, while the bottom two were killed in the Netherlands as part of an unrelated research project.
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find out any more information about it, other then this spotting appears to be common in foxes in the South Limburg region of the Netherlands, (suggesting it’s genetic and not a random mutation.)
Clearly it’s a less dramatic form of leucisum, but if anyone has anymore info/pictures of this mutation then please let me know! I’m really fascinated by the variation in color of both wild and captive-bred foxes.

fucked up and evil that i Have been drawing and writing all through january but none of you are allowed to see it
Couldn't resist a bit of Valentine's fun with the birds at work! This is one of our ambassador red-tailed hawks, Jesse, trying to get at her snack! Jesse is a non-releasable ambassador, not a pet, and she had been at our facility for 25 years this year, so she deserves some love! (She is not very good at enrichment, so sometimes she needs 'help!')
there is something to be said for going to zoos and aquariums on weekdays to avoid school-aged crowds but going to the aviary on a weekend is fun because going into big greenhouses and watching toddlers who just learned to walk encounter loose tropical animals taller than they are is part of the overall experience for me.
to me a three year old is just as much an entertaining and strange beast as an egret. and here they can interact directly. incredible.
The March Madness
The mating period of European hares starts end of January, beginning of February and ends end of July, beginning of August. The height of the breeding season, is known as "March madness", when the normally nocturnal bucks are forced to be active in the daytime. The boxing usually occurs when a male is being too persistent with a female, chasing her across fields in an attempt to mate.
Right at the beginning of the hare breeding season, in January, is also the best time to see the constellation Lepus.
