at some point flowey tries to convince papyrus to kill people. he blatantly refuses. flowey gets papyrus to attack something, then moves a monster in front of him. the attack does no damage. he tries tricking papyrus into thinking it’s justified. he still won’t do it. he tells him it’s the only way to accomplish his dream. nothing. even if flowey forces him through every step, papyrus still can’t kill anyone. in terms of impossibility, it’s right up there with getting asgore to show him the souls.

eventually he breaks down. screams at papyrus. “it’s kill or be killed! why won’t you just KILL?” papyrus won’t affirm his worldview. and it makes him feel sick. if it’s an undeniable truth, and he KNOWS it is, why doesn’t papyrus..?

when he’s shouted his throat raw, he looks up at papyrus. and there’s not exactly pity in his eyes, but some kind of understanding. and then papyrus pulls out a stack of slasher films (where did he get those???) and they watch them until morning because “IF YOU WANT TO SEE VIOLENCE, FLOWERY, THERE’S A PERFECTLY EASY WAY TO SEE IT THAT DOESN’T INVOLVE MURDER!!” flowey reloads a couple times in a row til he stops screaming at the scary parts.

and okay, it’s STILL kill or be killed, but wrapped in blankets, eating popcorn, watching people get torn to shreds by someone that isn’t him for once… maybe there’s enough killing going on right now. later he’ll go back to it, he can’t avoid the truth. but for a little bit he can escape it. just for a little bit.
