This is so stupid I'm sorry :D but I couldn't help myself
Who did it better?
Bonus:
I’ve watched the animatic six times. I’ve listened to the OST about forty times. I actually picked out Tommy’s motif on the piano, geeking out the entire time, and the notes are A, C E, F, F D E, G E C D, B, G, A (and repeat) in the key of C.
Just picking out the musical themes and how someone could built an entire series’ worth of OST from this piece alone based on motifs and musical language - Because if you’ll notice, Dream gets the horns and drums, but Tommy gets the violins and piano -
Let’s start with Mellohi’s halting waltz near the beginning, after the record scratch, the familiar and haunting notes that have become Dream’s calling card in every way. Starting off slow as Sad-ist reminds us that Tubbo and Tommy have been dancing this dance since the very beginning, the two of them against Dream, all three hanging on to each other for different reasons. Then it gets more intense until they’re losing to Dream and the horns and drums are overpowering the entire piece.
But then in the bunker, when Tubbo and Tommy are at their weakest but their bond is strongest, it rises up in protest. There’s still the weight of Dream’s presence but you’re feeling their desperation and dedication to each other loud and clear.
Only for it to all blend harmoniously as the others arrive.
And when Dream says what he says at the end, suddenly the symphony goes silent, except for halting piano notes - Tommy’s theme at it’s barest - stripped away, just like he’s been stripped away to nothing more than a boy who wants his brother back.
And then - and then it’s only strings playing the motif, because that’s when Wilbur’s gripping his shoulder and saying “I’m proud.” Because Tommy’s only half of what he could be without his brother supporting him.
OH AND HERE’S THE BEST PART. When Dream’s entire world is flipped on top of his head and he’s caught in a web of his own making, that’s when the drums come back, when TOMMY’S the one holding an axe over his prone form, the drums come back full force and vengeful and just keep thundering, over and over and over like a heartbeat out of control.
And the entire piece begins with a single drumbeat. Because it was Dream who initiated this entire fight.
I can’t even begin to process that this was composed specifically for Sad-ist, the queen of animation herself. She deserves nothing less. Moral of the story, guys, go give 2WEI your love and support, this piece is nothing short of GENIUS and they deserve our thanks for giving us such an amazing gift.
