I don't see enough people mourning over the slow death of physical media. And I don't just mean TV shows, video games, or movies--which don't even get me started about how we don't really 'own' anything anymore. It includes notes, journals, and letters to one another...so much of our history is lost when we lose a password, a website goes down, a file/hardware is corrupted, or a platform disappears. History that doesn't seem important until you no longer have access to it. Physical media does a lot for memory recall. How many memories will we lose because we don't have something tangible to tie it back to? Something to hold in our hands and stir up those memories we thought were once lost? Sometimes I wonder what the difference between burning a book and losing access to physical media is when someone can pull the plug and remove your access so easily.

Hyperfixation induced lazer focus pulled me through the second book in one sitting and I was managing just fine processing all the new information being thrown around, but absolutely nothing prepared me for the force of being launched back into real life by reading "Hi, Not Fucking Dead, I'm Dad."

Like... I was so prepared for the story to be even more of 'everyone wants to, has or will kill each other'. I was not prepared for the 'all these immortals have fucked each other' part to also become important to the actual plot??

I know I’m late to watching this show but wtf Skins uk I cry when people accidentally step on slugs you can NOT get me emotionally invested and then end season 4 like that and not continue the storyline in season 5 how dare you (spoilers? at least let them find out he died) how could you I haven’t been able to sleep for a week

has anyone asked Leigh Bardugo on her inspiration for Sturmhond yet because if it’s not Captain Jack Sparrow then I don’t know what is.

- They both have to keep correcting people on their title

- They’re both “pirates” who do good things

- They’re both witty and somewhat cunning but extremely charming

- The first POTC movie is literally the first place where I’ve seen the whole “Impossible - not probable” exchange

- They’re both weirdly lucky in how their “crazy” ideas and plans always seem to work out

Some of my favourite media rn are The Raven Cycle, The Dreamer trilogy and also the Revolutionary Girl Utena anime and I came to the conclusion that I just really love media that bases it magic system and worldbuilding and general storytelling on the characters and their development. Like, the magic most of the time doesn't really make any sense (or only if you don't pay attention) and sometimes random new things will just happen, except it's actually not that random, it's just that the character needed to be in a specific situation and/or make a specific decision, and so they were put in that situation, or it was for symbolism. Like, I have so much respect for authors that put a lot of effort and thought intomaking the worldbuilding or magic make sense and all, but personally i love stories for the characters, and I can't care less for stories with great magic systems that don't mean anything because the characters only exist for the exposition. Like, I love love love thinking back to when some teens went into a cave and made a bunch of animal skeletons come to life and then contemplating how they came out of the cave changed as people and we never talk about the skeletons again and it never happens again (TRC), or how some teens were dueling with swords on top of a tower in the backyard of their school and then some teens just drove cars around the duel (RGU) and contemplating on the symbolism of the scene.

I don't know if this makes sense but these are peak character driven storylines to me. I eat them up and dream about them when I finally manage to go to sleep.

If anyone knows any more stories told like this please comment I need more
