If you’re struggling with envisioning a fight scene, you might consider drawing inspiration from one of these martial arts videos:

Quarterstaff techniques in slow motion (could also be useful for up-close mage staffwork)

More quarterstaff, more fun and theatrical.

A bit of quick polearm fighting.

The music is painful and if you’re not used to watching fighting it might be hard to spot the hits, but full-speed fighting with sword and center-grip round (”Viking”) shields.
