after some reflection on all the talk of gatekeeping taylor from the locals over the past few days, i think what the real impulse is to let anyone and everyone enjoy taylor swift the artist but to gatekeep taylor swift the person. like im happy to let anyone jump on the bandwagon of having good taste in music finally, but we as the long time loyal fandom have watched far too many things happen to taylor to trust fairweather fans. it really is just the feminine urge to protect her at all costs and preserve the artists/fans relationship we’ve spent 15 years building.

(this may also be part of the sadness of her gravitating more toward twitter and tiktok now, because the way tumblr works its kind of impossible to become “famous” on it so its a lot more level of a playing field and more community building than competitive, but I digress)
