Welcome to step one of my blog posts of “making a Yume Nikki fangame for dummies”
As someone who has released a grand total of zero completed games and has barely left the alpha stages, I feel qualified as the most knowledgeable person on the subject.
You don’t have to be a good artist whatsoever to make a recolor, and just because you’re a good artist doesn’t mean you’re a good pixel artist at first either. So no matter your skill level, feel free to follow along~
We’ll be using RPG Maker 2003, aka the greatest of all great RPG Maker programs as Yume Nikki itself was created in it and thus it can do no wrong. For pixel editing, it varies on person to person, but MSPaint is fine (at first, other programs with layers and transparency are far more convenient, I use GIMP personally though many disagree with me on it. You’ll also want to upgrade if you want to export with proper colors and indexing and stuff)
