Perfect Balance Between Chaos I Before start working on my Great Grand Father’s book I did a series of drawings mixing different animals in an intrinsic way. I started drawing a part of a bird and then I switch to another bird. The composition was done accordingly I was adding birds. I called “The Perfect Balance in Chaos” and depicts the way the nature moves violently but always keeping the perfect balance (That is why I did it in a square shape canvas”.

Whales are divided into three families. This is the second and biggest: the Balaenopteridae, which contains the biggest animal that ever inhabits the earth. However, we will start with its smallest member but also the fastest: the Mink Whale. This is the most common whale and is probably due to its not being commonly hunted by humans. Its size is too small (about 10m) and does not have enough oil yield, so hunting it is not worth it. Nonetheless, the hunting of this whale has increased.

Its name is confusing because it was first confused and classified wrongly. Its name is derived from the Norwegians who usually refer to any type of small whale as Minkie or Minkies' hval.

The Dwarf Mink Whale was described as a new subspecies not long ago and it is not sure yet if is one. Still has not scientific name. Mink Whale in captivity.

Mink whale has been tried to keep in captivity in Mito Aquarium, in Japan a few times. Most of the specimens died in few weeks while in 1956, the last one was able to scape a net aquarium after 37 days spinning the pool in the same direction.

Long-Finned Pilot Whale (South Emisphere Form) Globicephala melas edwardii) Family: Delphinidae Genus: Globicephala Status and Conservation: Least Concern This is the final subspecies in this small family, and they closely resemble each other. Distinguishing them requires expertise. This form, for instance, exhibits more prominent white stripes on its sides and top compared to the other subspecies, though the presence of this pattern is not exclusive to it. Western Sumatran Rhinoceros

The first time I knew about the existence of this animal, I was 9 years old. It wasn't a photograph but an illustration and I was completely astonished that an animal that resembles prehistoric times was still among us. I finally saw a photograph when I was about 15. There wasn't any internet at that time so access to things was entirely through books. One of my wishes in life is to see one of these ones in person but knowing its precarious situation, the hope to see one fades a little every day. The Western Sumatran Rhinoceros is the most numerous of all the three subspecies with no more than 80 individuals. This subspecies was the last one to inhabit a zoo. The Cincinnati Zoo. The animal left the zoo in 2015 to return to Indonesia in order to start a reproduction program that has brought some success but nothing significant.

New animal unlock! The Persian Leopard.

Finding information about this subspecies wasn't hard. I have a couple of books that mention it. The problem was to find something curious or different than the usual things. Of course, it covers the essentials and I also wish, it leaves you with some stuff you probably didn't know about this animal.

Bushpig 

I actually didn’t know this one even existed. I was confusing it with the Red River Hog, which sometimes is also called Bush Pig. It always surprised me to see new species I didn’t know. 

Considered as a conspecific with the Red River Hog which is now regarded as a separate species. Too many subspecies of the bush pig has been recognized in the past. There are now three tentatively subspecies validated: 

Southern Bushpig: Found in lower Congo River (left bank), Angola, Zimbabwe, Zambia,  Malawi, Mozambique, Botswana, Swaziland, the Caprivi Region in Namibia, and South Africa.

White-Faced Bushpig: Found in Ethiopia, S Sudan, E Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

Somalian Bushpig: Can be found in Tana, Juba, and Scebeli Rivers in NE Kenya and Somalia.

Vercammen and Grubb, 1993, however, proposed just two subspecies of bushpig, the Southern bushpig, and the White-Faced bushpig. According tho them, the Somalian bushpig has insufficient evidence to be classified as one.

Another possibly subspecies of the Bushpig are the Madagascar bushpig, The Edwards’ bushpig and the Nyasan bushpig. However, studies are almost sure that this species were introduced during historic times.

I'm still having problems finding the difference between the species and subspecies of giraffes. The coat is very similar but when you look closely, the pattern is clearly different. Still, some subspecies patterns are very similar. I hope I can differentiate them after all. I must say, I am enjoying drawing them all. Is not so time-consuming as the rhino or the tiger and I am happy with the result. Kordofan Giraffe

Is a subspecies of the Northern Giraffe species. Found in Northern Cameroon, Southern Chad, and possibly Sudan. Many European zoos thought they had Nigerian Giraffes but DNA studies demonstrate that what they have is the Kordofan Giraffe.

This can be an advantage because this subspecies is critically endangered. The animal is hunted for its meat because poachers can feed on it for weeks. On the other hand, some of its body parts are also used to make luxury goods. Since is recognized as a subspecies, efforts to conserve this animal are now more important than ever. ___________________________________________________
