Forgive me for asking this, I'm not sure if this is selfish, but I'm not sure who to reach out to anymore. How does one cope with the helplessness or despair that the news of all these places suffering bring? I have found myself again unable to eat, rest or enjoy any sort of activity. I am aware this state only brings us down and doesn't help the movement but its getting worse and I don't wish to disengage . But I'm not sure how to deal with it anymore in a "healthy" way. If you don't answer it's ok, but all I do is cry, I try to help as I can I really do but I'm guilt-ridden and i dont know what to do
honestly u gotta learn to compartmentalize somewhat. i think it is good to feel empathy and normal to feel weighed down by everything happening but if it's troubling you to this extent then you need to set better boundaries. you should acknowledge these feelings but you shouldn't let them lead you. its not compassion fatigue if its regular fatigue buddy
this might sound callous but sometimes i find comfort in knowing that nobody actually cares if you make yourself this miserable. do you help people by not eating or not resting? you don't. does it make you a better ally? does it save the world? it doesn't. and by that same logic nobody cares if you take care of yourself either.
i know it's not just about palestine right now, that this moment has been an awakening for a lot of injustices happening around the world, and has fractured a belief in human rights that many had, but i often think about this tweet from eman basher in gaza:
people around the world know that normal life goes on. they don't begrudge you that normal life. they just want your support.
you can disengage for yourself, take breaks for yourself. this is normal. you are your own responsibility and your own priority, and it does make you a better ally to yourself and to those you care about to be well-fed, well-rested and thinking clearly. at the same time, your actions can be considerate both to yourself and those around you. you don't have to demoralize everyone or make it about the movement at all. you don't have to announce or justify it. most people are doing this all the time. just do whatever you need to do, and come back whenever you can come back.
Just an extremely Normal thing to say
Reminder they want to increase the budget for ICE from 3.5 to 45 billion dollars.
Reminder the majority of that will be for building new detention centers.
Reminder ICE are *currently* detaining tourists who can pay for a plane ticket home and people with visa issues that were already resolved, because they have to make quota so Trump can brag about the numbers going up.
Reminder most of these people were already in the immigration system - that's why they were easy to detain.
Reminder this is all at taxpayer expense.
Reminder these are people.
I have a hard time giving any amount to someone telling me witchcraft is dangerous for xyz reasons that usually are a requirement for a behavior they wish to see.
Let's be clear.
My witchcraft is not your witchcraft, we are not related to each other, you have no power dynamic over me, we do not do the same things.
And you do not speak for me. You do not know me. You do not know my practice. You can't know my practice, you can't even replicate my practice because it's closed.
And this whole thing becomes a slippery slope for what real witches do / practice discussion and that's not a slope you want to be on, because I will straight up just kick you down the slope right into the Block oubliette.
I'm not having it.
I don't have discussions about "what a witch does" if the word real is ever put it in because that's engaging in a discussion with an unreasonable person whose whole purpose is not to discuss but to tell. And again, you have no power to tell me anything.
it bugs me how many lesbians have issues with trans women. like, we're supposed to love women. what's next, you gonna start hating short people too? fuck off.
So, you know how certain Christian missionaries are trained to act in a very obnoxious way, so that most people they preach to will reject them outright, so they feel like the world hates them for being Christian and they can only be friends with fellow Christians? You know that thing?
I think as activists, we sometimes need to stop and ask ourselves whether we're acting like those missionaries. I think this type of behavior is a little more ingrained into our society than some of us realize, and some of us have internalized it without realizing what it's actually meant to do.
i like working at plant store. sometimes you ring up someone and there's a slug on their plant and so you're like "Oh haha you've got a friend there let me get that for you" and you put the slug on your hand for safekeeping but then its really busy and you dont have time to take the slug outside before the next customer in line so you just have a slug chilling on your hand for 15 minutes. really makes you feel at peace with nature. also it means sometimes i get to say my favorite line which is "would you like this free slug with your purchase"
I'd just like to clarify some things about Senator Cory Booker's marathon Senate speech in protest of the present administration and everything they are doing to the American people.
Senator Booker was NOT allowed to sit down, eat, or use the bathroom during his speech. Sitting or leaving the room to use the bathroom would be considered yielding the floor. Eating would have interfered with his speaking and the person who has the senate floor must continue to speak, except when listening to questions that they will then answer.
He only took occasional sips of water.
The person who previously held the record for longest speech on the Senate floor did have bathroom breaks and also did things like read from the encyclopedia.
Senator Booker did not do that. His speech was to point out the damage that this administration is doing and he stayed on that subject.
Senator Booker's speech did reach many people. It wasn't a silly stunt that was done so that he could take the record for longest speech. He wanted to show the country that democrats will do something to bring attention to the problems we are facing. That democrats are listening to them.
Senator Cory Booker spoke for 25 hours and 4 minutes to "make good trouble."

Hey, it’s ok to not be a “productive member of society.”
Some people are housebound. Bed bound. Some people physically can’t eat, shower, or use the toilet without the assistance of a caretaker. Some people don’t have the spoons to get out of bed in the morning, let alone work a 9-5 job in this capitalist hellhole.
You’re not lazy. You’re not less than.
And this is coming from a disabled person with chronic pain who can leave the house and walk (with some pain) without mobility aids.
You deserve to take up space. You deserve to cost money. You deserve to be here without feeling guilty just because you can’t give back in the traditional way.
You’re worth it, hun. 🫶🏼
Resisting tyranny takes a lot of forms.
" Magic works through the practitioner, not around him. This means that anything I call forth tends to pass through me on its way out into the world. Sending a curse, in my experience, is a little like spitting poison from your own mouth. It can be rinsed out... but it changes your spirit ever so slightly."
