Rei’s family owns a cabin, nestled in the Gifu mountains just outside of Shirakawa-go, though October was the first you had ever heard of it, sat around your parents dinner table for your monthly meal together with your step-siblings, minus Touya. The Todoroki’s sound almost sad as they discuss it, reminiscing with a type of despondent nostalgia in their eyes.

You can only assume this is due to the now painful memories it must hold—memories of a time long past, memories of a time better off forgotten. Touya refuses to talk about it, but from what you were able to gather, going up to it for Christmas used to be a family tradition, before the divorce, before Touya’s accident.

He wasn’t the slightest bit happy when you told him about it—about Rei’s plans to celebrate Christmas there once again, as a family—the night he picked you up after the dinner had ended. His blood siblings had seemed cautiously optimistic, though, and Rei had seemed genuinely excited, both reactions igniting a soft, excited flutter in your belly, which Touya nearly crushes a moment later, when he firmly tells you that you’re not going.

no no see, domesticity IS hot. how intimate it is to make food with someone, to share a bed, to brush your teeth at the same sink, to shower and use the same towels and the same laundry soap, to grocery shop and hold hands through the aisles, to be cornered in the kitchen to make out while a pot of pasta boils over on the stove. to fall asleep and hear them snoring softly and laugh at the little trail of drool out of the corner of their mouth. to spend money together and share chores and pick on each other for your weird habits. it's not always perfect and beautiful, but it's comfortable and familiar and I just think it's neat.
