It's crazy how Michael barely appears in the show. There is another version of Mikkel, but he never becomes Michael. Then he doesn't even exist in the original world. In the beginning he haunts the story from both sides. From the start of the first episode with Jonas having nightmares about his dead father to the end of the episode with Mikkel's disappearance.
Everything about Michael in Season 1 is this haunting presence for Jonas. His scenes in Season 1 are mostly just appearing covered in a black substance. We discover he's Mikkel, the little boy, but we don't know about the man he became and why he made the choices he did. Until we finally meet him again in season 2 and it all makes sense. He is really fantastic in "An Endless Cycle," which is the only episode where we really have him as Michael.
While Michael wasn't the character with the most screen time, it was a wonderful use of the same character in different times. Mikkel builds the story, we already know him when we get to Michael's part, and it feels like a perfect way to fulfill the character arc. It is just fitting and absolutely heartbreaking to see the character accept his fate because of how much he loves Jonas.
dead boy detectives deserved not just not to be cancelled but also to have at LEAST 20 episodes per season. i can't think of any concept for a show that is better suited to having filler episodes. let them just solve some silly cases sometimes
does this make sense

i fear joshua washington did nothing wrong. if my sisters disappeared because not just my friends, but theirs too decided to pull a prank that humiliated one of them to the point of running out of the cabin and the other running after to console. i too would have lashed out. and to top it off, josh was highly medicated before they disappeared and then stopped taking his meds. COLD. TUEKRY. i'm surprised he didn't actually kill one of them
The symbolism of hannah washington having a butterfly tattoo while she also undergoes a horrific metamorphosis and transforms into a monster that doesn’t even resemble her old self anymore

obsessed with the Helena and Irving parallel and what it says about the aspects of our identity we think are fundamental (but aren't)...
Like Outie Irving assumes his Innie is just as radically anti-Lumon as he is. He assumes his hatred of Lumon is something ingrained in his personality! That's why he stays up at night drinking coffee and making paintings, because he hopes that when his innie dreams about the testing floor, he'll say "okay bet" and start exploring. That's what Outie Irving would do, after all. But he miscalculated! His hatred of Lumon isn't inherent--- his desire for meaning and art and spirituality is inherent. That's what his hatred for Lumon is built on. But in a world where there's no meaning outside of Lumon propaganda, of COURSE his innie would become ridiculously devoted to the company.
And Helena!! She is the corporation, that's her whole identity. She presumably assumed that Helly would be just as pro-Lumon as she is. But she miscalculated too! Her devotion to the company isn't inherent, her headstrong and entitled nature is what's inherent! And in a world where she's denied any agency whatsoever, that manifests as rebellion.
It's the same dynamic flipped on its head. They both sent their innies in there with opposite intentions--- one to take down the company, one feed the company's expansion--- only to realize that rebellion and devotion aren't inherent characteristics. Their innies have become the exact opposite of their outie selves, while still being exactly the same!! Because even though your personality is inherent, the values you hold are determined circumstantially. OUGH IT'S SO GOOD.
