My personal conspiracy theory: RFK’s brain worm isn’t dead. It’s piloting him Ratatouille style. It’s been steering him to a government health office for years as part of a grand plan to deregulate food safety so more and more people get parasites and the brain worm reigns supreme over a population that is slowly being eaten away.

Thor. (Thor 1)

Thor is a brother. A prince. King. Lover. Fighter. Avenger. His identity is wrapped so tightly around these fragments that if he lets go, he’ll fall to pieces. But he’s fragmented because he shattered. And he shattered because of what happened in Thor: God of Thunder.Ā

Thor’s arc in the first movie, I believe, centers around the idea of consequences. It’s not falling in love with Jane, it’s not Asgard, not someone slapping him over the head. It’s the fact that his choices suddenly have weight and meaning.Ā

Thor gets banished for slaughtering Jotun unprovoked.Ā

Thor’s relationship with Jane, Darcy, and Erik is poor because he’s treating them like crap.Ā

Thor fails to capture his hammer because he’s not worthy. (To whatever standard Odin has set.)Ā

Thor, as he’s told, is the catalyst of his father’s death.Ā

image

There’s this moment in this scene when you can watch his face go from earnest to oh. That was me. I did that. Me. Not you. ME.

Thor is the prince of Asgard, which is basically an empire of nine worlds. He is used to having diplomatic immunity. He could do no wrong. With that ripped out away from him, Thor doesn’t talk. He shuts down, and settles inside himself, thinking.Ā

Not reacting. Thinking.Ā

Thor isn’t an idiot. He’s impulsive, there’s a difference. His first reaction is violence, because he was raised in a society where slapping your enemies over the head brutally was just something that was done. As much as I love Frigga, when Thor was banished, in the deleted scene, she didn’t go to Odin so tell him oh my gosh, our son killed all these Jotuns, why didn’t we teach him better?Ā She complains that Odin’s punishment was too harsh.Ā

Thor has never been told to stretch this much, and had it stick before. And Loki does it. He does it in a way that’s a little cruel, and cold, but he tells Thor to stop being such an idiot.Ā

And Thor, miracle of miracles, actually listens.Ā

This is not a story of Thor becoming worthy. This is the story of Thor realizing where his priorities need to be. It’s the story of him growing up.Ā

And this is where we get to my final point. I think that almost none of this–none of it–would have sunk deeply into Thor’s psyche if Loki didn’t fall of the Bifrost when they fought.Ā

image

Look at them. Loki is dangling. Thor is being held onto by his foot.Ā

And Thor doesn’t care.Ā

Because the only thing he’s focused on is his little brother. Hanging there. Dying. His best friend that just tried to kill all the Jotuns. His confidante that just disowned him. His biggest supporter that fought him. And Thor doesn’t understand. He doesn’t understand. He doesn’t know what Loki uncovered at that point.

This is just his brother who is going to die if he doesn’t do anything.Ā

And then Loki addresses his last words to their father. Not him. Their father.Ā And Odin rejects him. It always struck me that Thor sees Loki’s face close off and thenĀ immediatelyĀ knows what Loki is going to do. He’s not surprised, he’s not shocked. He knows.Ā Loki lets go, and Thor can’t catch him.

Thor can fly. Odin didn’t let him go until Loki was beyond any chance of recovery, and Thor blamed himself. He’s solemn after Loki’s death. He rejects his parents’ and friends’ comfort. He goes to Heimdall to start looking out for Jane, because he is not going to let someone else he cares about slip beyond his reach.Ā

Thor’s consequence for his actions in Thor 1 was his brother. And that nearly killed him. Thor 1 was never, never about becoming worthy. At least, not for Thor.

ā€œHow is he?ā€

ā€œHe mourns for his brother.ā€Ā

NOT what might reasonably happen in the dark, such as getting mugged or whatever, but like. the dark itself. the dark of your house

it still counts as a fear of the dark if it makes you afraid of something that doesn’t exist (ghost/demons/whatever), or if you are just generally more fearful when it’s dark

I think that mcu making up flaws that Loki allegedly has and "fixing" them but never even briefly exploring the flaws he actually has has a lot to do with the fact that his flaws aren't the ones that movies or books usually deal with.

Because mcu Loki does have some genuine flaws: guys, he tried to destroy Jotunheim and walked over his own beliefs in order to be liked and deserving to be loved by his family. That's the hugest people-pleasing issues you can come up with.

He's so overly private that he never even mentioned Thanos. Not once. Yes, there were different reasons, but this was one of them.

His trust issues? His desire to portray himself as worse than he is?

Him ruining Thor's coronation out of mix of jealousy AND altruism????

All of that are real flaws, but the writers of popular media usually don't deal with such kind of flaws - they deal with arrogant, selfish, power-hungry characters, so yeah, of course later mcu claims that Loki didn't know how to care about others. Of course the show states he was power-hungry.

Not only that, but the flaws mcu Loki has aren't always seen as flaws by many people: "oh, so he's a people-pleaser, it's like being too much of a hard worker", etc.

Mcu Loki is a complex character who is flawed in such interesting ways, but of course it's easier to give him classic bad-to-good guy story.

as a marginalized person who practices karate, please for the love of whatever god(s) you believe in, PLEASE NEVER PUT YOUR THUMB INSIDE YOUR FIST, YOU WILL BREAK YOUR THUMB/OTHER FINGERS

for lack of a good diagram, i have emojis: šŸ¤› šŸ‘Š 🤜 āœŠļø

if you want a little bit of extra stab with your fists, try extending your index and middle finger just a little bit, keeping the fist form, but having those two fingers being slightly more forward than the others

make sure to punch forward, as opposed to swinging your arm around your body for the momentum, it will show your inexperience and will be child's play to grab and use against you

i would agree with what op said about the cheekbone and nose for a targe, but if you want an alternative/are unable to reach your opponent's face with your strikes, consider hitting them in the throat or the diaphragm (which is the area right under your ribcage

i wouldn't recommend kicking unless you know how to do it right. this isn't karate kick, the crane kick will not work. if you can sweep their legs safely, attempt that, a person on ths ground will be unable to fight you as well from below (depending on their training) and provides you an opportunity to escape

honestly, the biggest tenant in karate is defense first. if you are safe to do so, always run away from a fight. you do not want to be in a fight for any longer than absolutely necessary

If you are a visibly disenfranchised person in America (by race, gender, sexuality, physical ability, or any other definition) and are worried about violence carried out in the name of sycophants, I would strongly recommend arming yourselves.

Brass knuckles are not illegal at the federal level, although many states have their own laws. They work in two directions: the brass rings increase the injury you do onto someone else, while the palm grip redistributes the kickback so that you're less likely to break your own fingers. Kevlar gauntlets, like the ones I wear for motorcycling, help with the latter more than the former.

Switchblades are becoming increasingly legal on the state level thanks in large part to an EMT lobby -- carrying a collapsible blade is helpful when your job involves cutting people out of their seatbelts in vehicle collisions. They come in two types: side-loading and out-the-front. OTF is triggered faster in an emergency.

In both cases, remember that most things are only illegal if you get caught. The issue comes in states where the sale of brass knuckles or switchblades are illegal, which makes them harder to acquire. If you can find a way to send a care package via a reputable courier, you should have no problem transporting across state lines. (My OTF blade came to PA nestled between a pair of sneakers.)

Handguns are easy to purchase in just about any state. Check your state laws to see whether you need a permit and/or to register your firearm to conduct a sale, but unless you're a convicted felon, the process is fairly straightforward. Always hold a handgun with both hands and practice at the range until you're confident in your aim and your stance.

Long guns are not going to be particularly useful on the street. You're unlikely to get the distance from your target to maintain your accuracy. They're more useful for standing your ground on your own property.

Bows are my favorite weapon to handle, but I would not recommend them for protection. It takes years of practice to fire them accurately, and you need space both to draw back the string to your ear and to fire at a distance. Arrows need a certain amount of momentum behind them, snap shots don't really work. Entry-level bows are cheaper than entry-level guns and that's the only edge I will give them.

General advice:

Put spikes anywhere you don't want people grabbing. Wrists and shoulders are the most obvious places. Punks don't just wear them for decoration!

Slip-resistant boots help you hold your ground in a tussle, and most come with an additional benefit like a steel toe or impact-resistant material.

When aiming with brass knuckles or bare fists, aim for the nose and the cheekbone. Both break easily and cause a shockwave of immediate pain that will make your attacker retreat.

Aim for center mass when possible with any type of puncturing weapon. It's the biggest target with the most important organs.

If you are put in a headlock, the thigh has both sensitive nerves and the femoral artery, and it's probably the most available target to you.

Strangling someone might seem like the nicer option, but it's the most dangerous for you. You need at least 10 seconds to strangle to the point of unconsciousness, during which your hands are both occupied and you can't defend yourself as well. Always go for an immediate, painful injury that will disrupt your attacker's attention.

Any protection - body armor or weaponry - is better than no protection. My motorcycle armor was designed to keep me from breaking every bone in my body in a crash, but the way it redistributes bludgeoning force also helps against baseball bats and batons.

Most people are not as prepared to receive physical violence as they are to dole it out.

think about it this way: if love=sex, that means you would probably have to fuck your partners, your parents, your siblings, your pets, your friends, your cousins, your grandaparents, your aunts/uncles, your nieces/nephews, YOUR CHILDREN, etc.

Love without Sex

I’m doing a Philosophy paper on Asexuality. Please reblog if you think Love without Sex is possible! I really need the data.Ā Like if you think love has to have sex.

i totally agree with you guys on this. don't like it? don't read it. this is as someone who goes between the tags because sometimes it's the only loki content i can really get, especially when it comes to new fanart. but i still love to be in the critical tags as well, because no matter how much i love loki in the fandom space, seeing him be butchered so badly still hurts, and the meta on this side is, in my opinion, far better than the other side of the community.

you (anon) can also be intersectional. you can be dialectical in the content you consume because the media that exists will never 100% match what you want it to be. yes, loki (the series) is good, as far as marvel shows go. but it could have been great. it could have taken a deep dive into loki's character, answered questions without explicit answers in the mcu.

can i be disappointed that the degredation of loki's character is connected to tom? absolutely. but what i am not willing to do is to throw him under the bus, because he is not the sole creator in this, and he is just one of up to a hundred people that are to blame for how loki's characterization, some of which are from long before the loki series in thor: ragnarok, infintiy war, and endgame. they set the building blocks for loki's mischaracterization, which is why so many people in the community didn't realize that the character had really been manipulated into something he isn't.

criticism is not inherently disrespectful. as a community, the people who are anti-loki series or critical of the loki series can still have respect for tom. i sure do.

I really hate the anti-Loki series blogs on here. You don’t like it? Ok cool, why make it everyone else’s problem and disrespect Tom as a person? You’re no fan of Tom, you don’t deeply respect him if you act like that.

Then why look at said blogs, anon? No, really, tell me I'm curious. I'm not going to anybody's inbox, unlike some fans, even if I deeply dislike what they enjoy.

I don't think critiquing an actor's work is disrespectful to said actor. You don't even know whether what Tom's saying under Disney's contracts are his real opinions, he is paid to promote the content. Neither you or I know him.

I'm sorry for you if you equate blind praise to being someone's fan. That is not how people interact with media and its creators. You can support someone and still be critical of their work as long as you are not crossing any boundaries of said actor and doing so without attacking them. And yes, I am not a fan of his new releases, that's no secret.

ok enough is enough. whichever one of you virgins invented instagram starbucks recipes, die 1000 deaths. I had a customer come in today holding out their phone (full brightness) and looking all shy and Im immediately like šŸ™„ fine ok, what does the instagram user want me to make for them this time. well this time it's a cringe harry potter themed frappucino. excuse me??? "can you make this for me?" I said excuse me??? -- I mean *customer service voice* "yeah it looks like I have all the ingredients, haha sure!"

ok cringe instagram harry potter frappucino drinker. ok. die. "Ive never had this drink before" yeah I can tell due to the fact that it didnt exist until someone posted a #aesthetic photo of it to instagram 14 hours ago ok. ok,

but whatever, Im paid to put up with this shit. so I add the ingredients all up on my computer and congrats! ur harry potter cringe social media drink has $10 worth of syrup in it. are you happy??? is this what you wanted??? a $10 frappucino??? $10. for a drink. you doubled the price of this drink for ur off-brand "harry potter and the legend of the overpriced starbucks drink" drink. you doubled the price!!! is this how u imagined spending ur day? is this what u wanted to do when u woke up this morning? $10 for a 24oz drink?

and u know, you KNOW the influencer making this recipe doesn't even work at a starbucks cause when it was all said and done the drink looked like shit. my blender was straining against the weight of your sins (and syrups) and Im sweating, Im an animal, Im losing my mind and my blender is getting watered down frappucino syrups everywhere -- u put so much shit liquid in this blender it doesnt even fit in the cup btw. it's making a huge mess. but is it instagramable? no, its fucking ugly. #trending #foryoupage #cringe $10 harold potter drink for adult children,

so are you happy? is ur social media influencer bestie happy? I made ur stupid $10 drink for u. does it taste good? no? well I hope instagram shuts down tomorrow. I hope you read a different book. I hope I never get sober. there is no sign of land. I hope you die. I hope we both die.

Debated making this, but oh well, here we are…

I rewatched the Loki series.

Going to add here quickly that I have been a fan of Loki since 2012/2013, and I personally relate to his character for a multitude of reasons.

Now, I enjoy the series, but I wish they made it more character focused than they had. I do feel like they prioritised story in terms of making it fit the next phase over exploring and expanding on Loki’s character to some degree (a lot of it was surface level).

For example, I would’ve loved to have seen:

Exploring Loki’s Jotun heritage, even if it was a variant of him in the void that embraced it, dropped his aesir form, a conversation between Loki and his Jotun variant as they explain why they chose to embrace it, giving a different view to maybe how our Loki sees himself/the Jotuns. If ā€˜What If’ could have a frost giant Loki variant, why couldn’t the show?

Expanding upon what happened to Loki during that year after his fall from the Bifrost. The reason for this is self explanatory really, it would add more lore/depth to his experiences/actions during the Avengers. Maybe address the trauma he has from it.

Loki fighting with his so-called ā€˜desire’ for a throne more. By this I mean, I felt he flipped pretty quickly from his plan to overthrow the time keepers to just following along with Sylvie - which is fine, but I kinda thought there would be more push back from him. I get it was a life or death situation and Loki’s whole thing is ā€˜survival’, but it would’ve added to their dynamic and the fact the writers clearly wanted to push how Sylvie was different to other Loki’s.

Exploring Sylvie’s backstory more. It really did feel like it was an afterthought, which is a shame. I suppose they left it ambiguous for certain reasons, but I think they should’ve had more flashback scenes of what Sylvie could remember. I think it would’ve helped people understand and relate to her more. (I do love her though).

Actually showed Loki’s gender fluidity & shapeshifting ability more. Again, self explanatory really & important to his character, plus the whole implied only ā€˜woman variant’ thing with Sylvie should’ve not been a thing, like at all.

They should’ve given Loki more time to process everything. This show really should’ve had 8 episodes each season, I get that’s not the writers fault, likely Disney/marvel’s doing. Perhaps then the shift in his character wouldn’t have felt so jarring, especially considering he’s 2012 Loki. I do agree they wrote him as if he was Ragnarok!Loki, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it just felt jarring considering the last we saw of this Loki was Avengers. But then I could also argue that maybe he thought ā€˜what’s the point of it’ because the TVA know everything about him, but I digress.

Used Sylvie more in S2. It did feel like they didn’t quite know what to do with her, her and Loki clearly just needed to sit and discuss the citadel fight, but the closest thing we got is in EP3 where Sylvie says ā€˜this is all rather familiar, isn’t it?’, referencing their different/opposing opinions on the TVA/He Who Remains. And also maybe the pie room scene, but it’s very vague/not directly addressed.

Explored the fact that Mobius is not a good guy more. Because, he isn’t. And that’s okay. To me, the whole point of the show is based on Loki’s quote of ā€˜no one good is ever truly good, and no one bad is ever truly bad’, and whilst they do reference Mobius’ own morally grey actions/traits, they don’t particularly make it clear and most just see him as this ā€˜happy go lucky old man who likes pie and loves Loki variants’. In fact, I actually really liked the scene where Sylvie confronts him - which is a very unpopular opinion to have it seems, lol.

Delved into the psychology of Loki further than surface level/what we already know about him. Yes, we know he’s the God of Mischief. Yes, we know he isn’t evil. Yes, we know he is redeemable. Yes, we know he’s cunning, manipulative and selfish. We get that he projects this ā€˜illusion’ of himself, but it was only really mentioned in S1 EP1, maybe slightly EP2, before it’s never really mentioned again. I suppose S2 does this to a degree with the bar scene and EP5 of S1 in the time cell with Sif - also I think they tried to take the narcissist angle from the pov that it’s because of his low self-esteem as to why he needs validation and it’s a defence mechanism, but they didn’t particularly make that clear and made it seem like he just thinks highly of himself.

I know it seems like I have a lot of issues with the show, and I do, but I still enjoyed it. It’s okay to be critical of a piece of media and still enjoy it.

I do prefer S2 to S1, mostly because I prefer the direction they took it in and whilst I, of course, wanted better for Loki, I can’t deny S2 EP6 is a stunning finale. I sobbed so hard during the ending and still feel the grief that I actually lost someone I knew personally. But I also have hope that this means Loki is now a main player in the next phase (am I delusional? Maybe).

I enjoyed the dynamics, the back and forth/chemistry, the story was interesting, the set & costume design, the acting, the directing/colour grading, the music (Natalie Holt, you are genius), the emotions, the fun, the characters…

So this is not a hate post by any means, I will once again state, I enjoyed the show. But, I do have issues with it, and that’s okay too.

Please, dni if you’re just going to be argumentative or confrontational. I also don’t want to hear that just because I enjoyed the show that I’m ā€˜not a real fan’ lmao. I’m sorry, but I’ve been a Loki stan for over a decade, and I will not have someone tell me I’m not a real fan because of a piece of fictional media. Also, please do not mention anything regarding ships on this post, I do not care for it because it always ends up in arguments and I am a multishipper so I don’t tend to fight for any side. Thank you! :) /gen
