reblogging this one because I’ve always loved the top right pin, I really wish they’d make a reprint. I actually found a rip-off one on Etsy that would theoretically work if you just took the pin outside and weathered it down a little 😭 In terms of vintage pins, the lesbian pins really understand graphic design while the bisexual pins are suffering slightly.

i love world fool news what an underrated anime, it’s genuinely funny and the art style is just amazing lol
my favorite episode is when world fool news reports on an organization that’s promoting “positive language to describe tsunamis” 💀 and then it just cuteifies the tsunami as a hungry storm lmao (I also liked the babys character arc though)
I don’t care that this post is years old because I found it and I need to show that world fool news isn’t extinct in the modern era
I wish the makeup artist got more screen time, I don’t think she’s in part II

is this anything beatle people?
that’s my girl 😌😌 (2nd favorite journalist from this time period)
I think that her book/interview with Hitler ranks up there with one of the best nonfiction journalistic books of WWII/Great Depression. I think a lot of people criticize her for calling him a “little man” without realizing that on paper in the 1930s it was easier to predict that Hitler was nothing more than an egotistical little man. Like it was kind of hard to see this coming from the earlier stages of Germany. From a critical perspective, it was easy to call off his behavior as ridiculous, we all would if we were in these early stages of his time period and didn’t know what was to come. Unfortunately, so many people did not know what was going to happen. It’s hard and complex to understood the psychological desperation of the German people and whatever was going on there.
Just my perspective towards Dorothy Thompson’s analysis of the Nazi Regime and the hate that she usually gets for predicting that Hitler’s ridiculous behaviors wouldn’t go far. Anyways, very early on she realized her mistake and published many articles opposing Nazism, also her article Who Goes Nazi? is super well-written.
So from a prospective journalism major I don’t support any hate towards her. There was nothing she could do to prevent WWII anyways.
btw sorry if you guys don’t wanna read a tumblr post about Hitler at like 7 am, I’m doing an article commentary on normative transgressions according to the Evers typology, so global politics has been on my mind a lot sorry
On 25 August 1934, Dorothy Thompson (pictured above) becomes the first American journalist to be expelled from Germany by the Nazi regime.
Thank you for the tag sirin!! This is little Anais, she would probably be a little bit worried about me.
She likes nature, writing, animals, crafts, sewing, and making up stories :o

Five Days of Yam-Pak Movies ~ Day 1: Madam Yun // 芸娘 (dir. Chu Kea / 珠璣, 1960) - starring Yam Kim Fai (任劍輝) and Pak Suet Sin (白雪仙)
Summary and more information under the cut!
Summary Inspired by Shen Fu/沈復's Qing Dynasty autobiography Six Records of a Floating Life/浮生六記. Madam Yun focuses on Shen Fu (Yam Kim Fai) and his wife Yun (Pak Suet Sin), who live in married bliss with their children at the former’s familial home. However, they fall foul of the machinations of Shen Fu’s younger half-brother, who has designs on the inheritance, and are summarily kicked out. The young family struggle to adjust to their poverty, but their plight is worsened by Yun becoming chronically ill; these desperate straits result in Shen Fu having to leave his family behind in search of paying work. Thankfully, after all his efforts he is able to find a benefactor, and the family is reunited under one roof (which is, sadly, not what happened in real life).

“Those who dwell, as scientists or laymen, among the beauties and mysteries of the earth are never alone or weary of life. Whatever the vexations or concerns of their personal lives, their thoughts can find paths that lead to inner contentment and to renewed excitement in living. Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts.”

You don’t have to belong everywhere!
I found this randomly and was hit with a wave of memories because For All Mankind is actually a pretty interesting show. And I’ve heard news that Apple TV is filming a season 5 that will be released somewhere in late 2025 so what a great time to bring it up again✨.
Like I used to be somewhat interested in it, I watched a bit of it, and it was my go-to answer for when well-meaning people asked what I like to watch because “I like the j edgar movie” is a little off-putting. (it’s hard to convince people that you like the show but you don’t like the actual historical figure in the show with is totally fair).
No I do not know the entire lore and backstory of For All Mankind but I just really admire the cinematography and how the story is structured like the creators reached a wide audience due to their pure dedication to this show 😭
For All Mankind - 1x10 - Forgive me but from the outside looking in you have it pretty good. You’re married to an astronaut. The whole country worships you. Sitting there in your big, beautiful living rooms, listening to your husbands in space on your squawk boxes. So if you’re looking for someone to feel sorry for you, just don’t look here. There are a lot of people who don’t have–I’m sorry. Everything going on the past couple of days, I… It’s okay.
I watched this 3 times because I was trying to edit it in a funny style in like 9th grade 💀
Anna May Wong and Marlene Dietrich in “Shanghai Express” (1932)
omg !! My sister is in middle school and they just did the Wizard of Oz as their school musical, she did the set design which was very cute ^^
Anyways, I love this movie because I find the Tin Man relatable, also why’s his name Hickory ;-; And recently I was researching Dorothy Arzner and I think she was close (?) with Billie Burke so that’s cool.
Billie Burke in “The Wizard of Oz” (1939)
“My favorite role was in The Wizard of Oz, directed by the great Victor Fleming, in which I played Glinda, the Good Fairy. I never played such a being on stage, but this role is as close as I have come in motion pictures to the kind of parts I did in the theater.” —Billie Burke
(From With a Feather on My Nose by Billie Burke and Cameron Shipp, 1949)
I used to play the saxophone in middle school 🕴️
it's so weird to me that everyone on this website is a human person outside of their weird internet niche so rb this with a random bit of your lore
I watched this movie during lunch because I have no friends /j and it turned out to be a really interesting documentary.
I know it’s from 2013 but it got me more into Cantonese films lately, I might seek some recommendations from my mom. Ngl, I always used to think that exclusively media from Britain/France/Czech Republic “fit my personality better” 😭 And I’m half Chinese so I always found it easy to just ignore that I’m Chinese. But I’m so into the Cantonese film lore now.

Golden-age hollywood, especially the more niche parts (not just Marilyn Monroe even though she’s very cool). Topics such as Alla Nazimova’s circle, Dorothy Arzner, the original creator of Mädchen in Uniform etc. Even just the more raunchy films or music pre-Hays code.
The lore from the author of goodnight moon, I used to be really obsessed with her
Franz Kafka’s sleep schedule /j no but seriously I did an entire 30 minute project when I was like 13 on his sleep schedule
The one billion futures I planned out for myself 😔
The cereal scene from the J. Edgar movie, because it has a mention of babygirl lorena hickok in it. Also, Clyde is eating post toasties. I read the original script for that movie actually.
btw looks like I forgot to tag some people so let’s go @bajaja-blast and @weeewooobitsfallout 💝
I saw this meme going around on twitter and I think it'll be perfect for this account.

1994 flyer for UK record label Soul Static Sound.
Soul Static Sound was a weird little label. It started out showcasing bands aligned in some way with the riot grrl scene, such as Skinned Teen, Huggy Bear and Kicking Giant. But it also made room for other kinds of bands well-removed from mainstream pop sensibilities, as shown here in a catalog listing releases by New York experimental rock band God Is My Co-Pilot, ragged pop enthusiasts Comet Gain and a couple of Sebadoh offshoots (Unconvinced and Sparkalepsy).
Where it got really weird is when the label turned hard in the mid-to-late nineties away from guitar-based sounds towards post-rock and electronica. (That was somewhat of a trend back then. Even Mr. Indie Pop himself, Mike Schulman, turned his attention from Slumberland Records for a bit to spotlight this newer music via his offshoot label, Drop Beat Records.)
This flyer dates from what I’d consider the heyday of Soul Static Sound, also listing what looks like a few gigs near the bottom. I’d gladly travel back to May 29, 1994 for a chance to see Pram and Prolapse on the same bill.
