My baby !!!! He sounds like a baby !!!
Went back to look at the episode where people say they can hear(presumably Nico) calling Bianca’s name
It’s right when they stand in front of the VR station, and the voice is MUCH louder than the rest of the people during the scene
(Let's pretend I did finish this for XL's birthday)
I really really liked this silly show. I think a lot of its problems come from the fact that it is an adaptation of a text that is almost a decade old now and shows it. (As much as I genuinely love the original, it is dated, and Returns goes a long way to unpick it).
But I like its humour (it's SO funny), I like its heart. I like that it has space for sincerity.
There are things that frustrated me - boss's moment of realisation and self acceptance was undone again and again, Mo starts out determined to fight but runs away again. And again. In the end, it's more like a sitcom or a cartoon in that regard: the conditions are reset, returned to the status quo (most especially with the factory reset of the amnesia plot) until something eventually shifts. Boss becomes almost like bugs bunny, popping up when he most isn't (or is) wanted - a trickster figure who stalls or moves the action on as required. If I watch it again (which I probably will), I'll watch it with this more in mind.
I like, also, that it gave Earth a chance to show his versatility. He's been so typecast that even still I see people surprised that he's not a 40 year old chicken rice seller. He's allowed to be goofy, sweet, and clumsy, to show what an excellent physical actor he is. He and Mix were given the space to improvise (the leg grab in the break up scene was improvised!!), showing their dramatic and comedic instincts. They seem to have really enjoyed filming this series, to have had the chance to try something new and work with a veteran actor like P'Krit.
It's so apparent that this show was made with love - it's not perfect and there are things that I would change - but I have so much time for it and I'm glad that it exists.
The amount of love coming off of Ray and Sand is almost painful. The way they talk to each other and about each other? Ugh, my entire heart. It's all the little things and the ways that they're showing their love and then the music disappears with Boeing's arrival and changes and everything about Sand's body languages changes and all that love is suddenly lost in awkward lines and stiffness and separation and Sand looking away.
That's the hardest part.
The space changes so instantly between them when Boeing arrives. It's like a switch.
Tired Sand is still tired. So tired. He has so much drama around him and all he wants is a quiet relationship and to be able to go to concerts and enjoy music.
Oh. Oh that is a hard line.
And Ray is watching them and Sand doesn't say no. Sand doesn't say no to him. Not directly.
And then Ray stomps in to bring the jealousy and the pain and the fears. Because he and Sand might have just started to make everything work again but he's still the same self-hating, self-destructive poor little rich boy he's always been.
Ray is so reliant on Sand, he loves him so much, and he is literally watching Sand not reject Boeing again and again.
I love Sand to death and on every level but the fact that he is not actually saying no to him but seems to expect Ray to just... not be upset about it is not working. He pulls away when Boeing is there. He insists on sending Ray home to stay with Boeing.
Sand, my darling boy, what are you doing?
Their entire relationship can be summed up by a poor jinshi tag.
Jinshi can't sleep (based on that meme LMAO)
Yall I really don't think they were written that out of character. Nico in tsats is a lot more like he was when he was first introduced to the series, I'm sorry that he doesn't want to stay in a dehabilitative traumatized state for forever but like let the dude heal and feel some joy for once damn. Also idk why people are saying "ToA Will is so much different from Tsats Will" I fear you might be delusional. ToA Will was perceived through the rose colored lens of Apollo. Tsats is the first book that we get to peak inside his head. He is a head counselor and the head medic, of course he's going to appear cool, calm, and collected from other people's pov's. Given the whole "embracing the darkness" motif for him throughout Tsats, I don't think it's that weird for his flaws to be put on display. It's not contradictory to his character, it's deepening to our and his own understanding of himself.
Also I'm gonna need y'all to stop bashing on Mark for a minute. I really don't want to know how this book would've turned out without their input. Rick does not have the best track record with approaching more sensitive topics (ahem the blatant fatphobia with Frank and Lester- cough- the reduction of Annabeth's character as soon as she is officially in a relationship with Percy- honestly Clarrise's entire depiction throughout the series raises many concerns- cough- the rascist stereotypes sprinkled throughout the rrverse, etc etc)
I think that this could've been a lot worse if Mark weren't a part of the project. So please stop diminishing the writing to "bad fanfic". Some of you are just being unnecessarily cruel and unfair. The book has been out for literally 2 days and you weren't the target audience. Cry about it.
Style sobbing, Kant telling him it's going to be okay...
With the sequence of Fadel and Bison going through processing...
I can't!!!
I am not okay.
If there's one thing I find quite fascinating as an OFTS enjoyer, it's the varying opinions we have about the show's characters.
Every single character has both shooters as well as critics, and there's not a single opinion that unites us all. Why? Well, it might just be because these characters are astonishingly realistic.
Take RayMew for instance, cause I've seen heated debates on both sides of this dynamic. Some argue that Mew is treading on thin ice by pursuing a relationship with Ray, knowing full well about his emotional volatility.
On the flip side, there are staunch defenders of Mew who insist that he's vulnerable, having been betrayed and cheated on, and Ray is capitalizing on that (just like Boston implied)! The opinions here are a muddied mess, much like the characters' feelings.
Then, there's Nick and Boston. I mean, most viewers find themselves sympathizing with Nick and harboring a deep dislike for Boston for obvious reasons.
But a good number of them also admit that Nick was wrong to record Boston without consent, and Boston has always been transparent about his feelings toward Nick.
Sand, who is mostly loved by all, isn't immune to scrutiny either. While many of us adore him, we can't deny his imperfections.
It's this multi-dimensional nature of the characters that makes discussing this show so exhilarating.
There are no definitive right or wrong takes when it comes to these characters; it's all about perspective.
It's about slipping into their shoes, understanding why they make the choices they do, and then looking at it from another character's standpoint, and understanding why they are criticized.
It's the realism that I enjoy so much. In the real world, most people aren't simply categorized as inherently good or evil; they're shaped by their experiences and personalities.
We all have those people in our lives who staunchly stand by us, no matter what, and those who will never understand us. The characters of Only Friends embody this human complexity to the fullest.
None of them are perfect, and that's precisely why we're drawn to them. They're beautifully flawed, just like real people.
What makes it so captivating for me isn't just following the story in the show. It's also diving into character discussions, hearing a spectrum of fan opinions, and embracing the diversity of viewpoints.
Personally, I appreciate both the criticisms and defenses for each character. It's this variety of perspectives that makes this show so fun to discuss.
SOMEONE COME GET ME PLSSS IMMEDIATELY!?!?!&(_>/>373727272
She/Her, Slytherin, can't focus on one thing, loves morally gray characters, likes bl way too much, all signs lead to it
