SINCE NO ONE IS GOING TO SPEAK ABOUT THIS, I WILL: WHAT’S HAPPENING IN SOUTH AFRICA RIGHT NOW
This all started with the ex-president of South Africa (Jacob Zuma) being found guilty of crimes (he has committed so many, I’m not even sure which one he was convicted of), and thus being sentenced to 15 months in prison.
This man, who has robbed South Africa of millions and quite possibly billions, willingly handed himself over to the Estcourt Correctional Facility, which is in the province of KwaZulu Natal, more commonly known as KZN.
Pro-Zuma supporters have taken to the streets of KZN (and for some reason Gauteng - another province in South Africa), and begun protesting on the 11th of July 2021.
These protests quickly escalated from harmless actions, to burning trucks on national roads and endangering innocent people’s lives. By blocking and barricading the roads, essential services such as ambulances could not pass through to save citizens.
If that wasn’t bad enough, protesters quickly decided that this was not enough.
Protesters then took to the CBD of cities and began looting the establishments. I’ve seen videos of people walking out stores with an entire TV. They’re taking fridges, freezers, just anything they can get their hands on.
Somehow, looting establishments still isn’t enough.
The Pro-Zuma supporters - now it isn’t just them, it’s anyone who wants to join in on the looting - have taken to raiding residential areas. The citizens of South Africa have taken to defending themselves, because the police are either outnumbered, or they partake in the looting themselves.
The looters and the citizens are basically at war with one another, which has resulted in nights of continuous gunshots, and at least 10 people dead, with many, many more injured.
This isn’t even about Zuma anymore - it’s about looting just for the heck of it. There is a way, a place, and a time to protest and, yes, it is your right as a South African. But when you’re endangering innocent peoples lives, it’s time you rethink your actions.
The time to protest like this is NOT during the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, and especially not if the looters are going around with no masks, and probably no vaccines. Only about 4.9 million South Africans have gotten the vaccine, and the population is estimated to be 59 million. That’s less than 10% of the population vaccinated.
I honestly don’t know what more to say, other than please pray for South Africa. Please raise awareness, because almost no international news outlets are going to cover this.

Hi everyone I know I usually don't post anything serious here. I've always preferred not to mention where I'm from for safety reasons. But currently my country - South Africa (besides suffering from the covid pandemic) is currently facing many violent protests/riots as well as the looting of shops - ie people are breaking into shops and stealing goods. The hospitals are under strain due to the rise in covid cases as well people who have been injured. There has been lots of shootings, the use of petrol bombs and many fires. The reason begin is that recently our former president was sentenced to jail and this has upset many people. It's quite scary as today the roads were basically shut down. It's terrifying because I've been hearing gunshots the entire day the situation is somewhat out of control in my opinion and the army has only been deployed recently but have honestly not done anything. Please pray for SA

I am DISAPPOINTED in the PEOPLE who decide to cause violence and anarchy. Our politics, the people who have failed us.
But if you think for one second that it represents our country as a whole?
You're damn wrong.
This all started due to people not having shelter, food, water or jobs. Corruption was the main catalyst for this to happen. That money could've been used to aid these people in need.
Zuma was the final straw & now everyone is going batshit.

some Zuma supporters are throwing big hissy fits bc he finally got arrested and are now making the streets very dangerous.
a group of idiots released wild animals from the zoo who are now going towards the protestors.
on top of all this there's a bunch of looters who thought it would be a good idea to reenact The Purge, so now Witbank is a big mess.

Confession, before yesterday, I have never watched a Audrey Hepburn movie in my life - nevermind a movie before the 80s. I absolutely loved Sabrina, Breakfast at Tiffany's and The Roman Holiday.
I don't know why I never watched it before. The style, the elegance & absolute star Audrey Hepburn is.
Now I am going to watch more 1950s movies. I was thinking of Casablanca. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Just binged watched Once Upon a Time in Wonderland. I loved Cyrus and Alice's love story. I was pleasently surprised by the spin-off. I would definitely recommend it.
I feel this show was completely under-rated, even if some viewed it as cliché.
It has genies, wonderland craziness and a world traveling rabbit that makes it sound absolutely bonkers and absolutely right for this show.

Protip for if you’re alone and find yourself getting jumpy because ‘oh shit this feels like the start of a scene from a horror movie’:
Do something that a director of a horror movie would never put in a final cut. Pull sudden and inexplicable stupid faces. Make up a ridiculous shuffle-dance. Sing that song with the weirdest lyrics you know, loudly and as off-key as possible. Be completely unphotogenic and uncinematic, and it counteracts the irrational fear quite nicely.
Rewatching season one of Once Upon a Time made me realize what an under-rated character Jefferson (The Mad Hatter) was.
After being stuck in Wonderland for who knows how long and on top of that 28 years before having the chance to be reunited with his daughter - it was absolutely gut wrenching to watch.
What hit me the hardest was that he remembered his life from the Enchanted forest. He had been tortured seeing his daughter who did not know who he was. To her he was a stranger. To me he had the cruelest punishment of them all.
Till this day, I am upset about Sherif Graham's death.
