“Absolutely not” you refuse his bowl filled to the brim with an assortment of cereal.

“Why?” Luke laughs. You’re sure he’s not wearing a shirt on purpose.

“Because I am not 8 years old anymore!” You can’t get over how exasperating he is.

“You’ve grown up and I don’t like it” he frowns.

“That’s life, Lu” you regrettably allowed him to stay for breakfast, knowing that both your parents would be out by the time you woke up. After downing a pint of water and ransacking your house for painkillers, his hangover wasn’t as bad as he first insisted. It turned out, he wasn’t dying as he’d claimed.

“But you used to love mixing 5 different cereals together!” He looks to the various boxes he’s found in your kitchen cupboards.

“When I was a child, yes, but they’re just full of sugar” you scrutinise the back of one of the boxes.

“You’ve changed” he gasps dramatically.

“Good”

“Hey, Y/N, do you…” Dan trails off as he walks into your kitchen. His eyes find Luke who’s stood there in just his underwear.

“Hi” Luke speaks through a mouthful of food.

“This is not what it looks like” you blurt out.

“What isn’t what what looks like?” Mia strolls in, eyes on the phone in her hand.

“Oh for…don’t you two ever knock?!” You really didn’t need this.

“You shouldn’t leave your door open th…Luke?!” She finally looks up.

“Hiya!” Luke waves, oblivious to the reason behind their shock.

“Not what it looks like!” You repeat.

“What does Hemmings being half naked in your kitchen at 9am look like, Y/N?” Dan raises an eyebrow, smirk on his face.

“I…h-he was drunk and needed somewhere to stay” you shuffle your feet, feeling everyone’s eyes on you.

“So she offered her bed” Luke pipes up.

“I hate you” you glare at him.

“So quick to dismiss our love” he gives you a sad look.

“Leave. Now.” You point to the door.

“Like this?” He gestures to his almost bare body.

“No! Get dressed” you practically growl at him.

“Can I finish my breakfast?” He says, spoon already halfway to his mouth

“No” you push him out of the door, taking the bowl off him.

“What the fuck, Y/N?!” Mia’s blurts out as soon as Luke has left the room.

“He rang me, drunk, and I couldn’t say no. He needed my help” you defend your actions.

“Are we beginning to think he’s not the dick we thought?” Dan questions, quietly.

“He’s still a dick. He’s just a dick who will always be a part of my life, no matter how much I hate that.” You sit at the kitchen counter, admitting out loud what you’d known all along.

“He wouldn’t have rang you if you weren’t a part of his life too” Mia’s voice matches Dan’s.

“Or he just knows that I wouldn’t turn him down” you laugh humourlessly.

“No, Mia’s right, he cares about you” Dan rests both forearms on the counter.

“Well, you two have changed your tune” you try to lighten the mood.

“He clearly hurt you, but I think he’s trying to make up for that. Maybe you should let him.” Dan shrugs.

“Maybe he doesn’t deserve that” you argue, not accepting that you should let him back into your life because he apologised.

“Are you sure you aren’t going to miss me too much if I leave?” Luke’s sudden voice makes you jump, as he returns to the kitchen fully dressed.

“I’m sure I’ll survive”

“Fine, but if your bed gets lonely, you know where I am” he winks, “I’ll see you at school” he adds to Mia and Dan, before leaving.

“I actually kinda like him” Mia muses after hearing the door slam.

“Please, don’t” you groan.

“So what’s going on with Wickham and Darcy?” Luke flicks through the dogeared book. The book you’re sure he’s spilled food on.

“You mean you haven’t read it?!” You wish you were surprised.

“Not really”

“Oh my god, Luke” you close your eyes and remind yourself to breathe.

“I tried, that has to count for something” he grins, “I just don’t understand the way they talk.”

“You’re lying” you narrow your eyes at him.

“Why would I be lying?” There’s a hint of amusement in his face.

“I don’t know” you admit, “but you are. I can always tell when you’re lying.”

“So you know I meant it when I said I missed you then” his eyes meet yours, his voice serious.

“Back to Wickham..” You cough, looking down at the book in front of you.

“You were the only really friend I had..” He begins.

“Luke, I don’t care” you cut him off.

“Just listen to me” he tries again, “Me and you were happy on our own, complete geeks who no one wanted to be friends with, then all of a sudden, these guys wanted to be my friends. I don’t even know how it happened, but they asked me to play football with them one day and I said yes. They wanted to be my friend. I’d never had that, me and you were thrown together..”

“What, so our friendship wasn’t real?!” You interrupt.

“I thought that I had to choose,” he continues as if you haven’t spoken, “between you and them. It never occurred to me that I could still be your friend. I had been welcomed into this cool, popular group and I thought if didn’t say goodbye to you, they’d reject me.”

“That’s stupid” your voice full of annoyance as his explanation, “real friends wouldn’t reject you.”

“I was 12, Y/N. Of course I was stupid. By the time I realised that, it was too late. I was a part of this popular group of people and you wouldn’t give me the time of day.”

“Do you blame me? You just stopped talking to me.” You cross your arms, as if that’ll protect you in some way.

“I know, I know, and I am so sorry for that” he pulls your arms away from your chest, almost as though he knows what you’re trying to do, “I was a stupid kid and I made a stupid decision. I was a fucking idiot and I’m sorry.” He murmurs the last sentence, reaching out to pull your chair closer to his.

“Saying you’re sorry doesn’t make it okay” you whisper, allowing him to pull you closer.

“I know that” he tilts your chin up so you’re forced to look at him, “if you want me to walk away and never bother you again, then I will, but if you let me, I will do anything to make this right again.”

“Even if I asked you to walk away, it wouldn’t make you less a part of my life.” You swallow, feeling his warm breath against your skin as he moves closer to you.

“And you’ll always be a part of mine” he murmurs, leaning into you, “do you want me to stop?” You shake your head.

“Y/N?”

“No” you croak. It’s all he needs to hear before his lips meets yours.

Some racist asshole run a muslim family down with his pick-up truck this afternoon in London (Ontario), killing four and leaving only one family member alive. The terrorist was a 20-year old islamophobic dude who targeted muslims and wanted to kill as many of them as possible; when the police arrested him, he was wearing body armor, he had intended to commit more than just murders. There's a 9-year old who lost his family and is in the hospital right now. It's heartbreaking.
