a mildly awkward first date

Sastiel, so sassy
Sam sleeps past his alarm, but Cas doesn’t wake him because he looks so peaceful and the last hunt was a bitch.
Instead, Cas goes out and finds some of that fancy brand coffee he knows Sam likes (because if he’s gonna put caffeine in his body first thing in the morning, it’s gotta be the good stuff).
Cas wakes him an hour later than he should, carding a hand through his hair to softly rouse him. Sam’s eyes flutter behind closed lids as he wakes, but he keeps them shut, basking in the feeling of Castiel’s fingers lightly scritching at his scalp.
He inhales deeply, a smile spreading on his lips as he finally opens his eyes, pushing himself to a sitting position.
“I overslept,” he comments, and Cas just nods, his hand having dropped from Sam’s hair to his knee. “You brought me coffee,” Sam observes, the rich aroma having been what caused him to open his eyes in the first place, “You didn’t have to.”
Castiel smiles at that, handing over the paper cup. Of course he didn’t have to, but he wanted to. He would always want to do anything he could to put that sleepy, innocent smile on Sam Winchester’s face.
Sam would never understand that, but Cas would never tire of proving it again and again.
Today, though, he settles for a soft kiss as Sam pulls him onto the bed to sit beside him, resting his hand not holding the coffee on Cas’ thigh, his thumb absently running over the strong muscle.
Castiel breathes a contented sigh, smiling a small, private smile as he rests his head on Sam’s shoulder.
If only all mornings could be as perfect as this.
