I woke up at 8 in the morning, just to see my dash filled with this GIF

I’m one of the people who freaked out by this.

Wow, just wow.

Moving on, I somehow noticed something on Snufkin.

His hand is on his shoulder,  showing some anxiety or something. And his face shows that he’s looking sad or hurt.

And Snufkin was sitting on a boat…

…which is what the ensemble cast used in Episode 2 - The Fire Spirit.

Scenarios

If the GIF happens at the beginning, then that scene is probably the one where Snufkin feels upset about a volcano erupting. Or perhaps, this is the scene where Moomintroll convinces Snufkin to come with them to the island. Looking at the episode picture itself, it looks like he feels reluctant, almost had the same facial expression from the GIF.

If it happens during or in the climax, and if we followed the Comet in Moominvalley storyline, he must have been also sad about the ocean disappearing because of the threat. It might be debunked because of that certain blue spot in the GIF. A possible worse case scenario was that Snufkin did something wrong (again), such as abandoning the Fire Spirit and he regretted it. So, Moomintroll cheers Snufkin up and the two searched for the Spirit. Snufkin must have done that because something within him feels uncomfortable and he just burst into anger, like what happened in The Spring Tune with Teety-woo. 

If the post happens at the ending of the episode, this is probably where Snufkin reflected on what he did in saving the Fire Spirit. For example, he actually missed the Spirit. I have a hunch that the volcano and the Fire Spirit is connected, the eruption happened when the Fire Spirit is separated from the volcano. Think of the “Chicken Little” movie. C.L stumbled upon a baby alien, then an alien invasion happened because of the said alien went missing. So it might happen the same thing, and it’s up to the cast to return the Fire Spirit where it belongs. Moomintroll comforts Snufkin and beckoned the vagabond to come with him in going home. Cue the GIF hand holding scene, then the end credits roll.  

I’m not entirely sure if this is episode 2 since the next eight episodes weren’t shown yet, but looking at the third episode, the hunch is strong.

Also, look back at Snufkin’s ending speech in Snufkin and the Park Keeper. 

“I almost start to enjoy the responsibility.”

The whole episode itself is like a contrast of his personality. A vagabond who likes freedom is (probably forced) to take responsibility such as taking care of the woodies. The Spring Tune has the part where he interacts with someone who not only admires him, but also reminded him of a certain friend… That somehow makes Snufkin uncomfortable since he’s not ‘ready’ to go back.

And in this episode, it’s now ‘saving moominvalley’ or some sort. Might be good for a character study of him.

Apparently people liked when I posted, hello friends! Have some moomin comics and doodles. (Each photo is an independent scenario they aren’t connected!!)

Fang is the older of the two. Unlike his younger brother Fang goes by his real name and doesn’t have a nickname. Snufkin made his hat for him before he was born and decorates it with flowers, vines and feathers every now and then. (I thought it would be a nice family tradition if one of the children from each generation got a hat similar to their fathers. Like how Snufkin and Joxter have similar hats). Also his bandana is Moomins old one from his traveling days.

Long tail is the younger brother to Fang and rarely goes by his real name of Oakley. He got his nickname for his abnormally long tail for a Moomin and Mumrik. Longtail also inherited an item from his parents, a small Swiss Army knife.

Fang and Longtail get along with each other rather well, rarely having arguments that genuinely upset each other. They make comments to one another that may seem hatful or mean but in reality are just jokes. Fang being older takes responsibility for Longtail’s mistakes (for example if he broke a pot or trampled some flowers, Fang would say he did it and take the punishment) despite his brother’s protests.

Unlike Longtail, Fang travels south like Snufkin during winter as he hates hibernating. When he was younger he would wake up and read books, draw and carve things from wood (he’s a quick learner, knowing how to read very early and how to carve without actually being taught. He simply learnt from trail and error, and seeing Snufkin carve boats and figures). He would even catch fish and cook them if he ran out of jams to eat and if he couldn’t get fish he would eat roots from under the snow (Snufkin taught him how to survive if he got separated from his parents for long periods of time just to be safe).

Longtail doesn’t like to travel during winter. He’s rather like his grandfather the Joxter in a sense. He’s very lazy and laid back. He’ll take the easy way out of any situation. Especially traveling in winter, he truly loves his winter rest. He calls it his recharging sleep. Much like Snufkin, Longtail prefers to be in little company or alone for periods of time. He usually gets very anxious around people he hasn’t met before but will open up with time.

Fang is quite sociable and enjoys meeting people on his travels. He visits many of the people he’s met in the past when he gets the chance and even asks some to come visit him in Moominvalley although not many do. Despite his love of people he isn’t one for parties or large crowds. Instead he’ll stand to the side lines with his brother, friends or Father (Snufkin, who sometimes lingers near the edges while Moomin hosts or socialises).

Totally think moomin would have a bow tie for each season. A blue bow tie for spring, red for summer, orange for autum and maybe black, grey or purple for winter (depending on if he’s awake to wear one or if he’s traveling). I feel like he’d wear a bleak coloured tie during winter because it’s always been a sad time of year for him as Snufkin isn’t usually around. Or maybe if he is traveling he doesn’t wear bow ties but instead bandanas like he did in his younger years of travelling although he wouldn’t wear his old one.

Also I think he’d gain a few more scars and would tell stories to the next generation about them. similar to how his father had told stories about his youth to moomin and his friends. Snufkin would cut in and correct him if he couldn’t remember or if he started to exaggerate during his retellings and vide versa. although Snufkin wouldn’t really exaggerate things as often as Moomin.

Snufkin and Moomin be living their best traveler lives. Definitely think they’d both have little scars from their travels.

Also I head cannon the idea that Snufkin and Moomin would start traveling together during winter when they got together. Like Snufkin would be more willing to let Moomin travel with him but then either split up and meet in spring back in Moominvalley or in a set destination if he needed some place/time alone. Although if Moomin couldn’t go with him he’d still leave Moominvalley to travel alone so he wouldn’t have to hibernate.

Snufkin’s Soup!

My dear Cheshire got me into the Moomins a few years back, primarily the comics and what I could read of the books (I still need to get my hands on a physical copy of them, dangit cost of living! -shakes fist-).

Anyway, Snufkin is extremely relatable to me and basically lives the life I dream about living so after finally deciding to binge watch all I could of them I decided to see if there were any recipes for the soups and stews he makes in the show. And tada! There is! 

It’s the most Finnish recipe I’ve ever cooked but it came out pretty damn bomb with some tweaking, if I do say so myself.

I figured others might like it too, since he’s become so popular here, so here’s my version of it: 

6 carrots  1 large onion  2 tbsp oil 3 cups water  1 vegetable broth cube 3 tablespoons of wild rice 1 cup of heavy cream

Salt and pepper to taste.

Pinch of thyme for each bowl.

1. Peel and slice the vegetables, stir them together with oil in a large sauce pan over high heat. I left my carrots in big chunks because I’m a New Englander and that’s how I like my potatoes in chowder but if you do that I recommend cooking them for about five to ten minutes with a cover over them all on their own before adding the onions because they came out a bit tough in the center for me. Cook, stirring consistently, until onions are golden and slightly transparent. 1.5. While veggies are cooking, bring water to a boil in a medium to large pot. 

You know you have the right sized onion if it’s roughly the size of Little My’s head. 

2. When water is boiling and veggies are mostly cooked, add vegetable broth cube to the water. Stir broth, add vegetables to the pot once they’re ready (careful of splash back!). 

3. Now add the rice, stirring continuously, for around 30 minutes or more depending on the rice you used. Mine took about 40 minutes because I added wild rice to mine instead of white or brown. 

4. Bring to a gentle simmer and add the cream. Stir continuously over low heat, remove from heat when it reaches desired thickness.

5. Serve in your favorite bowl with a pinch of salt, pepper and thyme to taste! You can also try green onion or a similar veggie/spice of your liking but I think the thyme is the perfect addition to not overwhelm things. <3 

6. Share a bowl with your favorite Moomin! It is a Snufkin soup after all!

And there ya go! :D A delicious dish, straight from Moomin Valley! (or the farmer’s market/Stop ‘n Shop, whichever is closest. ;3)
