Immediately after the painted bunting left, a blue jay showed up at the bird buddy. Such a size and color difference!

My backyard fave, sleeping hibiscus. Some people call it wax mallow but sleeping hibiscus is just so much more descriptive and cute.
Views from the backyard. The mango tree is laden and has me so hopeful for a big harvest but I’m betting the squirrels will take their fair share.
This female red-bellied woodpecker has been a constant fixture at the bird buddy lately. She’s got a distinct set of growths on her toes that make her identifiable. They appear to not be hindering her life because she’s been around so often, but a first for me to see something like this on a bird at a feeder.
The last photo makes me think the female cardinal is starting to figure out there’s a camera in the bird feeder.
In an incredible turn of events, the bird buddy captured two birds at two different feeders! The male cardinal giving a knowing look to the camera while the blue jay eats in the background is pure gold! The video also shows the blue jay coming back for more snacks after the cardinal leaves.
