Ground Rules

His wife was unhappy and unfulfilled. Their marriage was in jeopardy. They had decided it would be best if she began dating another man, and she wanted it to be someone they knew. Out of all of their acquaintances, she chose me, his boss. They invited me over to discuss their proposition to help save their marriage.

We sat in their living room and he brought me a beer. She sat next to him on the couch, while I took a seat in a chair across from them. Nervously, he asked me if I wanted to begin dating his wife. I was stunned by the request, but remained calm and collected. While the idea appealed to me immensely, I told him we needed to establish a few ground rules that he would have to agree to.

He asked what they were. I said I would agree to begin dating her if he agreed to the following:

He has no say on when or where I date her or what we do together

He has no say on when the relationship ends

I have priority with her, even on birthdays and anniversaries

When I visit, I am the man of the house in every respect

When the three of us are together, she is my woman and he is the third wheel

He walks me to the door and thanks me after every visit

After a long silence. He said. “Okay. I agree.”

I said, “Very well then. Let’s begin.” I held out my hand and his sexy wife rose from the couch and took a seat on my lap.
