some early series Lannisters
i love that your brienne always has braids in her hair
thank you!! when she’s first introduced as having a nest of hair that is where my brain went immediately.. a messy braided updo with hairs poking out. I think it’s also convenient for keeping her hair out of her face <3
Thanks to @ancientoctagon for tagging me :)
Last song: Rosa — Grimes
Last show: I finally watched House of the Dragon. It was okay that’s my review
Currently watching: nothing... I’m terrible at keeping up w shows
Currently reading: Heretics of Dune by Frank Herbert (I put it on hold when I started asoiaf so I’m just now getting back to it)
Current obsession: hmhmmh.... I have been messing around in blender a bit for fun. I am not very good at it <3
Pod squiring, Brienne in Renly’s tourney, and Ser Hyle Hunt certified loser
hiii your art is so delicious!!! im sorry if youve answered this already but what references do you use for clothing? all of the clothing you draw looks so detailed and accurate. could you give some pointers?
hello I procrastinated answering this bc I don’t feel like I have a very good one but I will try! I am assuming this means accurate as in fabric draping and such and not “historically accurate” bc the clothes I draw are definitely not historically accurate….
basically… scour for references. when you’re making up an outfit it’s very difficult to accurately imagine the way fabric drapes (at least for me) so most of the clothing I draw is a patchwork of several different references. not necessarily even good references. sometimes a cheap modern blouse has the right flowy sleeves and the correct angle of an arm to copy the folds for a completely different garment. look for images with similar fabric weights and textures and frankenstein them together and you can convincingly lay out folds and drapes for a nonexistent piece of clothing.
sorry if that is not very helpful! I don’t feel like any part of my process is that well suited to giving advice U_U
if anyone has any asoiaf characters they would like to see drawn feel free to send them in :)
I make no promises but I’m a little in the mood for some simple portraits
Danaë of Brno, a Přemysl Revenant and Fiendish knight of Clan Tzimisce. Shaagra's worst great-great-granddaughter. My Vampire: The Dark Ages -- Prague by Night OC, painted by the wonderful Liesl @shripscapi.
I just finished a big revision of Compromise Chapter 10, which means I should only need to do a round or two of proofreading before posting. 🥳
To celebrate (and to thank my readers and followers for their patience), here is a wonderful portrait of the Velargirls by Liesl / @shripscapi 🥰
Liesl was great to work with! She aced all the little details that I asked for:
Velargirls’ eye color, especially Jace’s Tyroshi / Tyrian purple.
Jewelry! All the jewelry! Sunfyre pendant, dragonglass tension ring, rubies like blood drops in Joff’s hair.🩸
Joff’s creepy AF book cover.
Sapphire blue yarn!
Luce’s gloriously curly and perpetually untidy hair. And her silver hair net!
All the pretty ornamentation on Jace’s gown. It’s easier to see on the individual portrait version I have for each of the girls, but her sleeves are soooo luxurious and lacy.
I also think you can feel each girl’s personality coming through the portrait. Jace is taking it the most seriously with her classic pose and “just a little smile but not too much of a smile” expression.
Luce is having fun but probably arguing with the painter, “What do you mean I can’t show teeth? Also I am going to lean on this table, because it gets tiring standing in this pose.”
And then there’s Joff, who doesn’t want to be here. But Rhaenys and Rhaenyra really want a nice portrait of all the girls, so she’ll put up with the ordeal.
10000/10 would recommend working with Liesl. Definitely check out her other ASOIAF art!

I would destroy to see some standalone art of Jon Snow (if you want)- your art style is so beautiful.
I WILL! >:) I actually already had a wip going but literally just last night I discovered some art of him that was uncannily similar… so I’m scrapping and starting over for the sake of not looking like I copied the other artist </3 but rest assured he will show up eventually
I just found your art and I must tell you that I am totally in love, it is simply beautiful and precious. Your talent is incredible! ❤️❤️❤️
Could you comment on the clothes you use for jon? I never saw him represented that way and now I've fallen in love! Thanks for share. If you ever need to open commissions, I'll be happy to commission you!
hi ! tysm :) I am happy to share, but it should be noted that I am definitely not a fashion history expert. I tend to pull from fashions in the medieval era, typically in the kievan rus/old russia region. I also sometimes draw from Ivan Biliban and similar illustrators and the fashions they use to depict Russian fairy tales.
Jon’s coat is pretty simple. it’s nice enough to be fur lined, but not nice enough to have any sort of decorative elements. His hat (I think) is slightly post-medieval, but I liked the silhouette. it felt dramatic enough for a lord commander without being too extravagant, and thought it would definitely come in handy for keeping warm at the wall. Any time I’m illustrating someone in the North, I try to cram in a bunch of furs so they’re not freezing. Also his sheath is taken from Link’s sheath for the master sword bc I couldn’t find one for the back that I liked lol
At the end of the day it’s a fantasy, and if george is going to insist on everyone having long flowy hair, I’m not going to kill myself with making everything ELSE 100% accurate. I stay silly :3
