She then belonged to the twelve gods of the Greek Pantheon and was a daughter of the supreme god Zeus and Leto and twin sister of Apollo. Artemis is the goddess of the hunt, also goddess of the moon, the wilderness, wild animals, nature, vegetation, childbirth, care of children. Artemis is also the goddess of the pregnant woman, although she herself has always remained a virgin. She remained a virgin of her own free will, to which her father Zeus also gave permission. Her priestesses are therefore unmarried women. Artemis was especially venerated in wooded Arcadia. As a virgin, she was also the patron goddess of chastity.
