Hi, guys!

As you may know, I am Ukrainian. I live in Kyiv. I have lived here since I was born and I love my country with my whole heart.

I see a lot of misinformation under the tag "Ukraine". Most of it comes from American people, who try to explain the conflict in their own words. They can't. It's impossible to explain if you haven't lived here. There are too many influences on this conflict. You keep looking from an american perspective, which is not crucial in understanding the conflict.

For example, have you ever had you language forbidden? Like straight up forbidden by the law? It happened to Ukrainian language a lot of times thought our history. And who did it? The Russian Empire. And it's not the end of it. The genocides, the assimilation, the deportation. Have you even researched Ukrainian history?

You do not uplift Ukrainian voices enough. And you should if you care about what's happening. If you don’t do it, you're just doing a performance of your support and activism.

Lucky for you, I am a Ukrainian person! And I am DYING TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS. I scored 191/200 points on my graduation exam in history, so you can suppose I know something about Ukrainian history.

If you stand for Ukraine, uplift Ukrainian voices. Educate yourself. Learn Ukrainian history. Ask Ukrainian people

,,,maybe this request is weird but I’m a sucker for vague horror stuff,,, but what if The Rookie is just sorta off? Like they appear blurry in pictures, their voice in the comms sound super weird, or they look scary from the corner of your eye? No preference with suitors just whoever you think would be interesting. They/them pronouns please!

Again I’m really sorry if this is weird or if it’s too much to ask,,, and if you don’t feel comfortable doing this you can just delete the ask.

The Confessional Booth

or: There's something not quite right with the rookie. No one is willing to bring it up.

Wow, look at me, working my way through my inbox. I've honestly lost a lot of confidence in my writing but this was fun. The next two weeks I'll only be posting smut.. so, yeah, send in ur requests luvs

,,,maybe This Request Is Weird But I’m A Sucker For Vague Horror Stuff,,, But What If The Rookie Is

"WELCOME BACK, KYLE"

The laptop monitor winks to life, the blue light maps the planes of his face. He does not look at the HAVE YOU BEEN SAVED YET HAVE YOU BEEN SAVED YET HAVE YOU BEEN SAVED YET below.

Kyle doesn't remember what he's writing even as his fingers linger above the keys of the next word. His earphones have long stopped playing music, only white static drifts to his ears.

He bought them yesterday. He doesn't know when yesterday was. He thinks he's lived this day before.

"No casualties encountered.." the document stares at him, the clock in the corner has stopped its solid tick of time. In the corner of his eyes, he sees a single crow linger by the windowsill.

Footsteps sound in the hall outside. The door opens, a hint of malaise and rot fills the room. This is routine.

"Hey, Gaz," they say. Kyle fights the instinct that tells him not to turn around. The Rookie doesn't go inside, face obscured by the harsh fluorescent light overhead the corridor.

"Need somethin', Rookie?" He thinks he sees them grin at him, teeth jagged and laugh wrong in all the way humans aren't. "Got any idea where the Captain is?"

"Think he's out for a smoke," he says, not meeting their eyes. He is the only person in the base with them. The beads of his rosary dig against his palm. Kyle doesn't know to whom he prays to. All he knows is that no one is listening.

(Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee;)

"Alright. Want to go to a pub? Wouldn't do us any good to be rotting down here," they ask him. Kyle ignores the unmarked grave that flashes over his vision. He looks over his shoulder and meets the too-dark gaze of the crow. "Sorry, mate. Need to finish this report."

"Come on, Captain wouldn't mind-"

"Sorry," they pause. "I really have to finish this or Price will have my head," he insists. They stare at him from the doorway, shifting from one leg to the other as if weighing what this lie will cost him.

They can't read minds, he has to echo, he has nothing to fear.

They inch forward and the iron cross of his rosary bleeds a bead of crimson from his palm. Their unseen eyes flicker to his trembling knuckles, then to the window. Their lips pull up into a smile. "Maybe next weekend?"

"Definitely. Sorry for turning you down, mate. Just.. busy." No casualties encountered screeches at him from the screen. They're not-quite-face suck him in. It is a sinkhole of dark decay. Everyday he treads closer to the brink of falling.

"Don't worry, I'll catch you next time." They grin, smile a little too large on their face, voice without any discernible accent. They mean it.

"See you then." He doesn't.

(blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus—)

The door closes and their footsteps echo away. There is still a figure standing behind him, their reflection on the screen of his laptop. Kyle doesn't turn around. He knows better. His mama taught him to never look.

When they are gone, for what feels like hours later, he stands and locks the door. He knows it won't help them from breaking in.

He has followed all the rules. He has nothing to fear. Kyle looks to the clock. It's 3:14.

The crow is no longer by the windowsill. The window latch is closed. He draws the curtains and blinds.

The light in John's office flickers, the sky outside is dark. The cicadas are shrilling and singing and he is glad for it. When they stop, a different being roams the corridor.

The Rookie's file reads a long string of [redacted]. The paper holds a reddish stain on the right corner. He tells himself it's spilled ink.

Every week he checks what their name is, every week he forgets. The note in his pocket reminds him to never check more than once every seven days.

There is a roll in-between his fingers. The air is hazy and humid. The smell of tobacco in his nostrils, the taste of smoke on his tongue. John leans against the chair and follows a crow's path above the cornfield.

It lands on the shoulder of a scarecrow. There are footsteps outside the door. The cicadas stop singing.

There is a knock on his door. He pans the CCTV as far right as it goes.

He knows who it is. It is routine.

The crow. The cicadas. The knock.

The Rookie stands there, shadows pooled at their feet. They stare at the camera, unblinking and empty-eyed. John is being watched even if he is the one watching. His breath stops short in his chest.

(Holy Mary, Mother of God,)

There is another knock on the door. It is already dark. He does not answer.

"Captain, can I come in?" they whisper, voice crawling through the cracks of the walls. They almost sound human, but there are no other soldiers who leave their rooms at night. He does not answer.

"Captain, I'm coming in." The door is no longer locked. They step inside, crossing the boundary of the doorway.

This is new. They were never able to enter rooms without permission before.

"Rookie," he speaks through clenched teeth. Their eyes gleam in the dark.

For a second, he thinks they're looking at him.

They are not.

They track a silhouette in the cornfield outside, face bleak and cold. The scarecrow is a little closer than how he remembers.

Shadows spy them as their not-body passes through the room, sticking by the walls. John blinks once and now they are right behind him.

He does not turn around. Their breath is hot against the back of his neck, their hand right over his shoulder.

"Captain, did you see anything tonight?" they ask, feigning a tone that vaguely sounds apologetic. They sound too human.

"No." He hasn't seen anything. Sometimes he forgets that anything outside his office exists.

"Why are you lying?" He does not respond. John's teeth are clattering, his palms clammy. He swallows around a dry mouth.

"Are you afraid?" He doesn't turn around. It doesn't matter that he is. He doesn't flinch, doesn't check if anyone else is awake.

At night, you are alone if they come to your door. He hears a flap of wings.

"You didn't see anything tonight."

(pray for us sinners,)

"Nothing," he whispers. His blood is cold.

When they're about to leave, they linger by the doorway. They stare at him, gaze straight, eyes milky white and soulless. They do not blink. Razor sharp teeth grin at him. John makes sure not to meet their gaze.

The door closes. The lock turns from outside.

He looks to the window. It is afternoon. There is no cornfield. The ground outside is barren. Its harvest is hollow.

The skin of his neck crawls. There is something in the room with him.

A life-sapped carcass of a crow lies on the floor right below the clock.

It reads 3:15. It has always been 3:15. John hasn't seen anything.

The fog speeding through the streets is thick. The flickering lamp lights do not cut through the haze. Nothing cuts through the haze. The fog has been here since forever. The white-haired old man down the road says it's ne'er receded even when he was still playing by the creek.

There is no eventual dissipation. There never will be.

The fog is alive.

"Rookie, give me a sit-rep," Johnny grumbles, eyeing the mossy oak tree that is always 4 feet away. "Rookie?"

Their voice crackles, static broken. "..cHurCH.."

"Anything else?" He does not remember how they got here. A whisper from the woods behind him tell that it doesn't matter.

It doesn't matter. He is never leaving. It doesn't matter.

"I- it MaTtErs.."

""D you jus'say?"

"..hUrRY." Johnny spares the woods a last glance. It waves him goodbye.

A crow caws.

He arrives at the church some time later. Its floorboards creak with every step he takes. Mold and decay has taken the building. The Earth is taking back God.

The pews are dusted. The Bibles he sees are blank. The holy water, maggot-infested, is dark.

There are footsteps that lead to the confessional. "Good evening," The Rookie whispers inside.

He enters the booth. His skin crawls. He cannot see their face. He does not want to.

(Now, and at the hour of our death,)

"Confess your sins, Sergeant," their voice is dry. Johnny does not listen to the hymns that have started to play outside the booth.

"I don't—"

"Confess your sins or you won't be able to leave." It is not a threat.

The bell rings overhead. The tower had been empty. The organ begins playing. "Hurry," they urge him.

Murmured prayers begin rising from the church. He sees shadows roaming the aisle.

The voices are rising— give sentence with me, o god, and defend my cause against the ungodly people: o deliver me from the deceitful and wicked man.

"Confess—"

He spills open.

(Amen)

When the confession is finished, the shadows outside turn to face him. They are smiling. He grips the rosary in his pockets. It does not help.

The Earth has long taken God.

"Ego te absolvo," The Rookie whispers.

When he leaves the confessional, there are corpses of crows on the pews. They are smiling.

".. what's the time?" They tilt their head, unseen eyes turning away from the cross.

"3:16"

𝐂𝐎𝐃𝐄 𝐍𝐀𝐌𝐄 𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐀𝐒

— 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐝 𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬.

 𝐂𝐎𝐃𝐄 𝐍𝐀𝐌𝐄 𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐀𝐒

hey everyone ! by reading call of duty fanfictions, I was inspired and I would like to help writers who are struggling to find code names for their character (whether for y/n [the reader] or for original characters) !

here then is a list of codenames (with their definition, their meaning and what they reflect of the person who has it, arranged in alphabetical order) :

* there are feminine, masculine and neutral names ! mostly neutral.

 𝐂𝐎𝐃𝐄 𝐍𝐀𝐌𝐄 𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐀𝐒

« 𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐋𝐀𝐑 » !

collar [noun.] : an ornamental chain or string of

beads, jewels, or links worn round

the neck.

[verb.] : to kill someone by putting a

burning rubber tyre around their

neck.

– the person who bears this name (here a woman, because of the funfact of this code name below), could have a soft and welcoming apparence (according to others). She is literally sweet, very calm, rather unsociable and a little shy, but who nevertheless knows how to get out of her comfort zone and be an excellent ally: faithful, efficient and always there for the good moment. We consider ourselves lucky to have her and we do not want to lose her (in anyway, no matter what relationship we have with her).

– Fun fact! : This code name is taken from « She’s my collar », the name of one of Gorillaz and Kali Uchis' songs (two artists I love. This song is a featuring they made together.). In the song, the "collar" was very important and necessary, we can’t hate her. We always end up coming back to her, no matter how ok you try to get away from her. She's literally the collar.

« 𝐂𝐑𝐎𝐖𝐍 » !

crown [noun.] : a circular ornamental headdress

worn by a monarch as a symbol

of authority, usually made of or

decorated with precious metals

and jewels.

[noun.] : the top or highest part of

something.

– i don’t really have a personality ideas of the person who would bear this name (gender doesn't matter, this one is neutral in my opinion). However, I think the code name itself says a lot about the role of the person wearing it: they would probably be someone in charge, leading a group.

– Fun fact! : ‘Crown’ is the name of one of Freddie Dredd's songs (an artist I appreciate very much. my favorite song from him is Witness.)

« 𝐅𝐀𝐈𝐓𝐇 » !

faith [noun.] : strong belief in the doctrines of a

religion, based on spiritual

conviction rather than proof.

[noun.] : complete trust or confidence in

someone or something.

• synonym: trust.

– i think the person who bears this name (gender doesn't matter, this one is neutral in my opinion), is a person you can trust, who covers everyone's backs. They’re a good right arm, and very chill person.

« 𝐊𝐄𝐑𝐎𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐄 » !

kerosene [noun.] : a clear liquid with a strong

smell made from coal or

petroleum and used as a fuel

in jet engines or heaters and

lights.

– the person who bears this name (regardless of gender, this one is neutral in my opinion), as its definition implies, is important is useful, being the engine, the energy of something. so I would imagine a leader (of squad or whatever) having it.

– Fun fact! : Kerosene is the name of one of Crystal Castles' songs (one of my favorite musical band. my favorite song from them is Untrust us.)

– For people who would find this name long, Keros (which would come from « kerosene ») or Kero (which sounds like the word « hero ») simply are also very good !

« 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑 » !

leather [noun.] : a material made from the skin

of an animal by tanning or a

similar process.

– i don’t really have a personality ideas of the person who would bear this name (gender doesn't matter, this one is neutral in my opinion, but I would see more of a woman with it!), to be honest.. I am sorry. This code name just reminded of the names « Lea » and « Luther ».

Do not hesitate to explain your ideas about it in the comment section.

« 𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐍 » !

rain [noun.] : the condensed moisture of the

atmosphere falling visibly in

separate drops.

– the person who bears this name (gender doesn't matter, this one is neutral in my opinion), is a very stoic person, but not necessarily unsociable. We don’t really know what we think of them : they’re like something that falls suddenly without warning and which makes you sick if you do nothing, which can do good or harm (they reflect what rain is, so).

– Fun fact! : Rain (in the pronunciation) looks like the word « Reine » in French which means queen.

« 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐌 » !

realm [noun.] : a kingdom.

[noun.] : a field or domain of activity or

interest.

– i don’t really have a personality ideas of the person who would bear this name (gender doesn't matter, this one is neutral in my opinion, but I would see more of a woman with it!), to be honest.. I am sorry.

Do not hesitate to explain your ideas about it in the comment section.

« 𝐒𝐈𝐑𝐄𝐍 » !

siren [noun.] : in greek mythology, a woman

whose song lured unwary sailors

to the rocks.

[noun.] : a device that makes a loud

prolonged signal or warning sound.

– the person who bears this name (rather a woman because of the first definition) is not referred to her charm, her physical appearance, but to her ability to deceive the enemy and to mope in the decor, in the role she plays. this name would therefore go well with a spy (or a traitor, it depends on the point of view of the relations that this woman has with others).

« 𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐑𝐍 » !

thorn [noun.] : a stiff, sharp-pointed woody

projection on the stem or other

part of a plant.

– the person who bears this name (this one is neutral in my opinion, but I would see more of a men with it!), is a dangerous person. this name is given to him by his bloody parlmaress and his modus operandi that sends shivers down your spine. this name is therefore given to him more for their activities than his person itself.

« 𝐕𝐀𝐌𝐏 » !

vamp [noun.] : a woman who is confident that

she is attractive to men makes

use of it in order to get what she

wants, who uses her charm or

wiles to seduce and exploit men.

– the person who bears this name (here a woman because of the definition) is not referred to her charm, her physical appearance, but to her ability to deceive the enemy and to mope in the decor, in the role she plays. this name would therefore go well with a spy (or a traitor, it depends on the point of view of the relations that this woman has with others).

« 𝐖𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑 » !

weather [noun.] : the state of the atmosphere at

a particular place and time as

regards heat, cloudiness,

dryness, sunshine, wind, rain,

etc.

[verb.] : wear away or change the

appearance or texture of

(something) by long exposure to

the atmosphere.

– the person who bears this name (gender doesn't matter, this one is neutral in my opinion), could be someone who is lunatic, does things well (although sometimes acts on a whim), and who adapts to any situation. They are easy-going and stubborn at the same time and likes to be in control of anything ! So I see this person being a leader, an example, someone we like to follow, ect, despite their flaws.

– Fun fact! : Weather is the name of one of Freddie Dredd's songs (an artist I appreciate very much. my favorite song from him is Witness.)

« 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐇 » !

worth [noun.] : the level at which someone or

something deserves to be valued

or rated.

[adj.] : sufficiently good, important, or

interesting to be treated or

regarded in the way specified.

– the person who bears this name (gender doesn't matter, this one is neutral in my opinion), is someone you trust. they’re a moralizer, someone who puts people in their place when necessary, who always has the right words.

« 𝐖𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐓𝐇 » !

wraith [noun.] : a ghost or ghostlike image of

someone, especially one seen

shortly before or after their

death.

« 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐓𝐇 » !

youth [noun.] : the period between childhood

and adult age.

– the person who bears this name (gender doesn't matter, this one is neutral in my opinion), as its definition implies, is just young (but not a minor). I would imagine the person who has this code name to be the youngest person in the group they are in.

– Fun fact! : I thought of this code name from mine on YouTube (@ youthyja). And yes, this is totally a pub of myself ^^.

British Slang, Phrases and Idioms!

Finally getting this done! Special thanks to my Pa, because without him I wouldn’t know as much slang as I do LOL, we talk about this kind of thing on the regular, and he's my point of reference for this.

Remember, all of these phrases are very informal/casual, and the point of perspective is from England specifically, some of these words could mean something completely different to someone from a surrounding country. Some are moreso used by older people, while others are typical of a brit of any age. I’ll try my best to indicate as such!

If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask! Whether it's in the replies, a DM or an actual tumblr ask! I may do another list/add to this list if I remember more later on. Of course, others are free to add on to this, offer corrections or clarifications, etc! :)

Warnings: Vulgar language, very very brief NSFW mentions

Anyway, Slang and Phrases under the cut!!

Nouns

Berk: an insult, a stupid person. Might be more common with people who are older.

Bird(s): Woman/Women ("A couple of birds") - Can sometimes come off as a little sleazy, but not always. Depends on the way it's used. I'd say it's kind of mostly used in reference to women you aren't that familiar with? Can also be used to mean someone's girlfriend "That's X's bird," Used by all.

Bloke(s): A man/men. Again, I'd say it's mostly used in reference to a guy you aren't very familiar with, but it's not always the case. Used by all.

Bollocks: Nonesense, an exclamation used when you’re annoyed/disagree with something or someone. Used by all.

"That's a load of bollocks," / That's a load of bullshit

"Bollocks to it," / Fuck it

Typically used out of anger or exasperation, but can be used in a light-hearted and joking way.

Bollocking: A strong reprimand. Used by all.

Bastard can also be added after an adjective for added effect "Thievin' bastard," / "Mardy Bastard,"

Bastard in general is a very versatile word, it can be used as an insult but also can just be used to refer to someone generally. See it as a sort of replacement for "guy" in some aspects (but not all). ("Poor guy,"/"Poor bastard,")

Wind up merchant: As above, a wind up merchant is someone who enjoys winding someone up, this name is often given in annoyance by the victim

Rhyming Slang gets its own section because it's a wide and wonderful topic. I can't put every possible option, but I'll pick a few favourites. I highly reccommend anyone who's interested to look into it more. Rhyming slang can also just be made up on the spot, and I'd say it's moreso used by older folk.

To use rhyming slang, you just use the phrase in the place of the actual word you're substituing out. Basically just like using synonyms.

Some rhyming slang can be shortened further into just a word.

Bell Ringers/Bellies: Fingers

Boat Race/Boat: Face

Brown Bread: Dead

Butcher's Hook/Butcher's/Butch: Look

Hank Marvin: Starving, hungry

Pat and Mick: Sick

Plates of Meat/Plates: Feet

Septic Tank/Septic: Yank (An American)

Tea leaf: Thief

Two and eight: State (Describing someone who is dishevelled or upset.)

Extra/Misc

Depending on the situation, "fucking" can be turned into just "kin"

Ex. "Fucking Hell" can become "'kin 'ell!"

This also applies to "Fuck Off" which can just become "Koff"

Ex. "'koff with that shit,"

Depends on the situation honestly, sometimes the "fu" sound can be a lot more emphasised. The art of british swearing is a delicate one.

Insults can also be made out of pretty much anything, so long as it's put after "You absolute-"

Cunt can be a little divisive when used (some have no problem using it, others find it to be too abhorrent to use) but it's used pretty commonly.
