Alright, so I don’t usually involve myself in discourse, but this one made me want to say something. I’d appreciate if this gets reblogged.
The word rat is not a racial slur towards Asians. Please stop telling people it is, especially if you’re not Asian yourself.
As an Asian myself, I’m telling you it is not an actual thing, and I’ve asked my Asian friends and my own parents, all of varying nationalities within Asia, and more specifically, East Asia, the area said to contain the people who should be offended by this word. None of us have ever seen it as a racial slur. If someone calls me a rat, I will assume I’ve just been called it because I’m seen as a sly, scheming bastard or something of the like, not that I’ve been called it because I’m Asian.
I have seen the historical arguments for this, the propaganda, all that. I showed that to my friends, my parents. It makes no difference to us. Rat was a general insult used towards a lot of groups back then, not just Asians, and it’s not a thing we Asians register as being offensive slur-wise. It’s just generally not a fun thing to call a person if you’re purposely being mean. Nothing to do with race, so don’t make it out to be, because it isn’t.
For more about the history, please refer to this very well-worded post that I strongly recommend you reading, exploring where White Knighting topics, blowing them out of proportion and lack of consideration for the actual groups in mind is causing problems, and the screenshot below, taken from this reddit post, which also sums it up quite nicely.
So there’s that. And there are those who might go, “But you’re normalising casual racism! :(”, and I really don’t know what to tell you, buddy. You can’t tell us what we should be offended by, because you’re not us. And vice versa.
Basically, please remember that the whole way that something even becomes considered a slur is if the group actually feels offended by the term in the first place.
The group. Not just one or two people, or someone who isn’t from the group but feels some sort of Entitled Righteousness about trying to ‘stand up’ for the group. The group.
If the group doesn’t find it offensive, then please stop saying it is and saying we are offended by it! By doing this, you’re just talking over Asians’ voices, putting words in our mouths, and shutting us up just like whoever started this did! ;-;
Please stop spreading misinformation. We’re fine. So if you see someone call a character a rat, don’t mind it in the slightest. Thank you so much.
My other inspirations for wording this post:
[Sources: here and here if you wish to like and reblog them. Do not harass.]
Please do boost this. Y’all can add on, but please don’t clown! I reserve the right to block if I feel you’re messing around and looking for a fight. Also fellow Asians who have never heard of this mess, feel free to express confusion in the replies. I felt the same way.
And to my friend on Discord who brought this to my attention, this isn’t to you, I promise. I don’t hate you. You’re okay. This is just to the people who told you the wrong things, and the people who need to hear it. You probably just believed it when you heard it and were passing on the message, and I appreciate that you were trying to be respectful to Asians, but I just wanted to address this and clear it up.
Thank you again 🐀❤️
I’M,,, oKAY- I was scrolling down your archive a bit (do people do that? i feel stalkerish just by writing it-) and saw a very old post of yours, saying that you did scenarios, hcs, etc… Then I SAW BLUE EXORCIST AND I JUST HAD TO,,, So hcs of Shima, Yukio and Izumo having a trans s/o? I’m not picky, mtf or ftm! And,, maybe some after-care headcanons 👀?
Oh wow, thank you so much for requesting! It’s been a while since I have gotten any, so I’m glad to see it’s for of my favorites XD I do that too with writing blogs, so it’s probably common here.
I tried to write the reader so that you could see them as both MtF and FtM. It swung a bit between which character I wrote for, to see what would fit, but I hope it’s alright! Thank you again and sorry if it took a while!

Shima Renzo:
- I kinda imagine that Shima isn’t the person to know that much about genders? Since it isn’t something that is often adressed in Japan quite as much as overseas. He had probably heard of it before, but not thought much over it.
- He’d probably be really confused and surprised when he first heard, needing some time to think it all over. But, of course, he would be accepting of him/her.
- If Shima hadn’t introduced him/her to Bon and Konekomaru, he definitely would. The four of you hit it off so well, after all. The two also promised to keep Shima off his/her back if he ever was too much of an idiot or got too perverted.
- The Kyoto squad also became his/her bodyguards when transphobes/homophobes got in the way, willing to beat the s out of them if he/she didn’t stop them.
- Days are often spend in his bed, cuddling, listening to music or eating snacks. Sometimes, he takes him/her with him to town, even to concerts, if he's/she's into that.
- His family already loves him/her, surprised that Renzo had such a caring boyfriend/girlfriend. There’s already invitations to the next family event for both of them.
- Overall, Shima might not always be the perfect boyfriend, but he’s trying his best and loves his s/o more than he could have ever thought he would.
Okumura Yukio:
- Out of the three, Yukio is probably the most worried one. Not out of what others would thin, of course, but more about s/o.
- Since he is skilled in the medical field, he knew of how often society didn’t see transgenders in the best light. Not all places, but generally knew quite a bit. Yukio knew how the world, especially Japan, thought about people who were trans.
- It might need s/o and his brother's help to see that others opinions wouldn’t mean the end of the world. Sometimes he just ended up worrying over stuff like this for the safety of those he cared about.
- Helps out with a meal plan or training regiment, if needed. Yukio sometimes lets them train with him, since he mostly just practice shooting targets than lifting weights.
- Likes to do homework together, read together and sometimes go out to eat. Though, it’s mostly just from places that doesn’t cost much, since a teacher’s paycheck wasn’t that much again.
- Yukio will never admit this, but he feels like him, S/o and Rin is a nice family. The dorms feels brighter whenever the three of them got to enjoy a meal together. Almost like back when they lived at home.
- While Yukio is new to having a boyfriend/girlfriend in his life, he loves them dearly and will do his upmost best to be the one that he/she deserves.
Kamiki Izumo:
- I think Izumo might be the one who would be fastest to accept it out of the three. Of course, if she didn’t know before she was told, she’d be surprised and need to think, but generally not really think it mattered all that much.
- She likes S/o for who they were, so why would all of the other have to matter. It might take some time to get used to the thought, but she was more than willing to do it.
- A good thing about dating Izumo is her fashion sense. If you wanted something to make him/her look more cute, she’d take s/o to the store she’d usually shop by. If he/she wanted to look more cool, she’d take him/her to this other store she knew of.
- Many dates included the two getting bubble tea/milkshakes, shopping in Harajuku, reading manga together and eating lunch together.
- of hearing someone make fun of her s/o, Izumo is quick to boil up and make sure that they apologized. She couldn’t help it. Seeing the irritation and sadness on her loved ones' faces just made her heart break, despite never saying that outloud.
- if she ever sees her s/o feeling down or insecure about themselves, be ready for her to start rambling about he/her. About how gorgeous, wonderful and how much Izumo adored him/her. By the end of her speech, she’d be as beat red as a tomato, that s/o would be the one worried about her health.
- Izumo loves her s/o no matter what and is a good, little gf to have in your life, despite her temper and tsundere-ish ways of showing it.

completely double spaced version on google docs here – this post is more blocky for the sake of people’s dashboards, but still long so people will be less likely to glaze over it. my apologies if that makes it hard to read
• symptoms only manifesting as “nonverbal and rocking” • super smart / living calculator • super dumb / doesn’t understand anything • all the symptoms you can come up with for them are “awkward” and “has special interest(s)” (please do more research) • trains, technology, and/or math as special interests • acting like a child • getting treated like a baby • unreasonably cruel and uncaring about others’ reactions to them being cruel • if they’re comparable to sheldon from the big bang theory, start over • animal comparisons • a lack of feelings • please no stories about what it’s like to be autistic told by allistics
• lots of symptoms, including secondary ones not included on a general diagnosis requirement list (here’s a list i rather like that was made by an autistic person – their blog is also a good resource) • having a good amount of general knowledge and actually talking about it (i cannot believe that i have to say this) • talking about things outside of special interests (again…. come on……….) (special interests are usually the default things our brains go to when theres no stimulation or we want to entertain ourselves – it isn’t literally all we think or talk about ever. if a conversation has no connections to a special interest, reconsider having your autistic character bring it up in a context that is not an introduction.) • explicitly expressed to be capable of attraction and romantic feelings – if your character is an adult, add sexual feelings to this point • capable of general functioning, just with a disability that makes it more difficult – not a walking disability (….sigh) • a wide amount of feelings and emotional turmoil (but perhaps only being able to express it in limited ways) • we’re people • just people whose brains are wired differently
• autism moms / autism blogs and websites not run by autistic people • any affiliation with autism $peaks means you should walk away and never look back • a scientist trying to create explanations for what autistic people do without actually asking / not mentioning asking autistic people • anything about a cure for autism • a person that “worked with autistic kids” phrased in the same way as “worked with animals” • talking about autistic people as if they are mysteries, are like animals, or are otherwise othered weirdos instead of people
• actual autistic people talking about their experiences and symptoms • just stick to that and you’re good but it’s hard to find sometimes ngl. just look for the above red flags
• less easy to swallow sadness and more destructive anger. i would love to see a canonically autistic character who was frustrated easily by small things and had trouble communicating why • not a story about being autistic, a story that happens to have a character or characters who are autistic – it isn’t pointed out or questioned, they’re right at home with the rest of the cast and not othered (a la symmetra from overwatch) • intensive sensory issues / small sounds making large reactions • clear communications about not liking x sensory thing (for example being touched) • poor motor skills / clumsiness and not being laughed at for it • walking funny (body bent downwards, walking very fast, walking slowly, big strides, shuffling, stiffness, etc) – no one treats it as if it’s funny or something totally strange • a big personality that has a presence so they can’t be cast aside (but feel free to have quiet characters too) – if this was along with being nonverbal they would probably leap to being one of my favorite characters ever • a fear of asking for clarification on sarcasm or jokes because of past experiences and an arc about the character becoming more comfortable asking questions

people need supplies to protest safely, and even if they bring supplies with them, they can often run out. if you’re able, stock up and hand them out to people protesting. for more supplies to donate, see the “george floyd action” google docs link in section 5.
water bottles (dehydration and heatstroke are not things people should have to deal with alongside bastard cops. if the police in your area are particularly violent or known to use tear gas, get the ones with the sports cap/suction-thing/etc so people can use them as emergency eye-flushes.)
snacks (make sure to take into account that people have allergies of all sorts. foods will have a little label that says “may contain” and then list any potential allergens. write the allergens on the ziploc (or any container you use) in permanent marker, or better yet, write the snacks included in the pack.)
masks (don’t forget there’s still a pandemic going on. also it will aid in deterring facial recognition when the police try to track down protestors, also part two, if the cops use tear gas, wearing a mask (with the combination of a scarf or bandana) will lessen the adverse effects. lessen, not stop.)
bandanas, scarves, etc. and goggles (ski goggles, swimming goggles, etc.) (see above for explanation on the scarves. same goes for the goggles. anti–tear gas and anti–facial recognition.)
clean shirts (for people who are heavily gassed. also helps deter recognition through clothing.)
wound care supplies (band-aids, packets of neosporin packets or a similar antibiotic, alcohol wipes, etc.; if you can, decant bactine into those little travel bottles.)
a sharpie or another type of marker (for writing bail numbers or emergency contacts on arms, hands, etc. it’s not enough to have your city’s bail fund number stored on your phone; the police won’t give it to you to look it up. give people a marker so they can write it down, preferably not washable so it isn’t easily removed.)
IMPORTANT: KNOWING FIRST AID
tear gas: if you’re hit, get out as fast and as soon as you can. take anyone you can with you. the longer you’re in the gas, the harder it will be for you to see, and it can irritate your airways, making it hard to breathe. if you’re hit, don’t run; it’ll only make things worse on your lungs. when you leave the area, take a cold shower. don’t use hot water (it will only reactivate the agent); don’t bathe (it will only spread the CS around). (source 1) (source 2) (cdc fact sheet on tear gas)
move them to a clean and ventilated area where it’s as safe as possible.
ask them if they’re wearing contact lenses. have them remove it. if they’re wearing glasses, rinse it with water.
solution of half liquid antacid, half water. spray from the inside going out, with the head tilted back and slightly towards the side being rinsed. if they say it’s okay, open the eye slightly while doing this. (source)
bullet wounds: the most important thing is to stop the bleeding. be sure to check for an exit wound and cover that as well. treat both wounds, but treat the worse one first.

first aid in active shooting scenarios
making a tourniquet (a commercial tourniquet is best, but improvised ones can work as well if done properly; the most important things to remember is that tourniquets are for limb injuries and are not meant for the head or torso and that they have to be very tightly wound on the injury.)

Man though you know what makes me sorta sad is when nerdy, “quiet” kids latch on to me during camp and they just talk and talk and talk about a thing they’re into (Skyrim, Pokemon, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, dinosaurs, whatever). And I see the kids just light up when they say something and I can chime in with an ‘oh hey, are you talking about [x]? I love that thing! Tell me more about it.’
Like, their parents will warn me ‘so-and-so is pretty quiet and hard to engage’ but no, man, just listen, your kid is so smart and so into This Thing, they’ll engage like fuck and talk your damn ear off it you let them. Frame it in their damn terms. Or! Just! Listen to them about their Thing! And they will engage with the rest of the material! Because they know you care about them! Amazing!!!
