anyway now that we’re all talking about britain i want everyone to read this article and educate themselves on how fucked up the class divide in my country is
Extremely frustrating as Palestinians watching the world stand in solidarity with The Ukraine and suddenly knowing how to use the word occupation.
dropping this here
and this one too. they let refugees fleeing a different war freeze to death in the middle of winter while the world turned a blind eye at the frozen corpses of children who were denied asylum and died because of it. this was happening as of two months ago as well, it’s not old news
i stand with ukraine, obviously.
i also stand with those who are calling out the blatant hypocrisy in how others in the same situation were treated, as well as those who are rightfully upset in the world’s support of and reaction to of one group of people but not others who have faced the same and much worse.
and before anyone jumps on this with ‘omg not appropriate right now’ or ‘stop comparing the two’, it’s entirely possible to stand with ukraine and the russians who are protesting the russian govt, while at the same time acknowledging that the world’s eurocentric response to this situation is extremely different to the response it gives other countries in places the western world declares are “backward”, and “uncivilized”
the absolute power these images hold
Look, I know a good number of you are from the US and things aren't amazing there either, but my country is literally on the brink of collapse. So I'd love it if we could talk about that for a minute.
If you can't do anything else, please just read and reblog.
A second COVID wave has taken out the healthcare system. There are no more hospital beds. There's an oxygen shortage. There's a critical vaccine shortage. The Central Government has thrown its hands up and is passing the baton to the State Governments to do what they can.
There are over 16 million covid cases. A record 330,000 new cases reported yesterday - comparable to the US at its peak. 187,000 dead as of today.
There is no plan.
Mass cremations are taking place. The cremation grounds are running day and night and they are short on wood. People are watching their loved ones die while waiting for a hospital bed, and then they're unable to give them the proper burial rights.
Hospitals are overwhelmed. Patients are being confined, two to a bed. They're the lucky ones.
We are on the verge of people dying in the streets.
This is the second-most populous country in the world. The largest democracy. A country that encapsulates over 15,000 years of recorded human history and has endured everything from famine to invasion to colonisation.
We might be at the end. This might be the thing that does us in.
People are dying.
People are dying.
People are dying and there is no plan.
More good news? Variants are popping up. A double mutation strain has shown up. It is resistant to current vaccines. This will not go away. This is the devastation they warned of when the anti-maskers were out protesting the minor inconvenience of covering their face in public.
My country is on the verge of an emergency state. Our government has failed us. This is as dire a situation as it ever could be.
Look. I don't do much with my life. I write fics, some of you have read them and that's pretty much it. I spend my days with my head in the clouds because that's where I like to be.
But two days ago, my grandmother tested positive, had to be taken to hospital and the ambulance caught fire.
She barely made it to the urgent care she needs.
So, here I am, using whatever meager platform I have to cobble this request together. Because I have to do something.
If you can, donate.
Or spread the word.
Help. Please.
"unforseen grade inflation" is bullshit. 39% of state school students got A*s and As, which is only slightly above the average range of 30%-37%, whilst private schools gave out 70% A*s and As. the lack of regulation in the private school sector is disgusting and puts thousands of state school students at a disadvantage. the blatant inflation from private schools paints all students that have received their a-level results in a bad light and greatly disrupts the university application system.
the hannibal showrunner posting a recent selfie of hugh dancy and mads mikkelson hanging out meanwhile jared and jensen are publically breaking up on twitter I can feel this website about to burn down
While all of Europe is responsible, I think it’s also important for people from the UK to acknowledge the particular and direct culpability of our government in what has happened in Israel and Palestine - mostly because it never is. Politicians don’t mention it, the media never mentions it, they tell you nothing about it in school, no one talks about it. I was just saying exactly the same thing about India, but if you ask an average British person if they think their country did a good job of ruling Palestine you’ll get a blank stare, maybe they’ll pull a massively uninformed opinion out of their arse, I doubt many could tell you exactly when it was. But the fact is that when Britain assumed control of the Holy land in 1918 both Zionism and Palestinian nationalism were relatively minor concerns, and when we left in 1948 there was a civil war raging between those two sides. All of the important seeds of the conflict were sown and took root while Britain was in charge. The first major Palestinian uprising of 1936-39 was an anti-colonial struggle against the British Empire.
But today, watching the news, British people are like ‘wow guess we’ll never understand why Jews and Arabs just naturally hate each other’… just like those Hindus and Muslims in India and Pakistan, and those Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland’….. and all of those other places on earth where the legacy of British occupation and partition is division, violence and misery. The Empire is not a distant memory we can feel vaguely proud and nostalgic about (as most British people apparently do) it was a global crime of almost unimaginable proportions and it’s still (in some cases quite literally) blowing up in our faces.
I am so glad that we’ve managed to learn absolutely nothing from this whole experience, guys. Stay classy, England.
Under international law, Israel is 100% obligated to vaccinate all the Palestinians living under its occupation, yet they have refused to provide Palestinians with vaccines since they started their vaccination campaign 6 months ago, despite the fact that 85% of Israel’s population are fully vaccinated (the highest percentage in the world) and despite the fact that Israel has been sending millions of vaccines to foreign countries in exchange for them moving their embassy to occupied Jerusalem instead of giving those vaccines to Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza.
Two days ago Israel has, oh so generously, decided to share some of the millions of vaccines that they have been hogging with the Palestinian non-Authority, but there’s just one small problem: all the vaccines that Israel has “donated” are either expired or near-expired and they were only given to Palestinians in exchange for them to give Israel a brand new vaccine shipment that’s supposed to be shipped to Palestinians this September directly from Pfizer as a form of charity, even though again, Israel is 100% obligated to vaccinate all the Palestinians without anything in return from them.
Gaza of course is left out of this deal, even though Israel bombed the ONLY COVID-19 facility in Gaza and their Ministry of Health just last month. Please keep that in mind when the media attempt to save Israel’s image by reporting on how they wanted to help out by donating vaccines, but it was the evil™ Palestinians who “refused” their generous offer.

I might be having a real unpopular opinion here, but Rowena’s death scene was pretty boss. Her whole speech about not loving anything enough to take her own life and all that? That was amazing.
And her, “that’s my boy.”
It was amazing.
Ruth and Jared played it so well without it becoming too melodramatic. And it wasn’t some cheap, overshadowed,”we’re only going to show how the death affects the main characters” spiel they’ve been doing while fridging women the whole time.
I’d rather her be alive, but if nothing else, that’s how to write a better death scene.
'people who NOW feel concerned about police presence' okay sky news catch the fuck up, a significant number of people in the UK have always been concerned about police presence. what happened to sarah everard is yet another horrible event on the endless timeline of police corruption and brutality
