how to get through impure regression without a caregiver ˎˊ˗

• what is impure age regression?
impure regression is a form of age regression where due to the regressor having childhood trauma, it can to the regression to be dark and scary. it may also be caused by high levels of stress or an overwhelming time in someone’s life, it is a trauma response / something our mind may do to try and get us to escape a tuff situation in life.

• 🧴 make a regression kit before hand! it can help so that incase you are anxious or having bad thoughts, etc. you won’t have to worry much about getting your regression stuff all together- it’ll already be in the kit! I have a post on how to make one but I’ll just give a few examples of what you could put in it:
- 🩹some of your favorite comfort snacks (food that doesn’t have to be refrigerated or heated up like goldfish crackers, animal crackers, cookies, anything in a package!)
- 🩹some bottled drinks like juices or water !
- 🩹some first aide, bandaides / neosporin / etc. and some napkins incase you spill something, etc.
- 🩹an emergency comfort blanket or stuffie! something that can calm you down if you are panicking, etc.
those are just a few suggestions! you can scroll down on my account to find my post on how to make a regression care box!
• 🧴 turn on a tv show / put something comforting on for you to watch! something like adventure time or any other comfort cartoon you have would be good, it could help you focus on something other than your thoughts. you could even try some bed time stories on YouTube or meditation videos! this might be a bit harder to focus on but they could help wonders.
• 🧴 sometimes letting yourself cry it out or letting yourself listen to your thoughts by writing them down can relieve some sort of tension! crying can be super good for your body and mind, not everyone cries and that’s okay- but if you do, let yourself cry, okay? it can help relieve some stress. and sometimes facing your emotions head on by writing them down in a notebook can help you get everything off your chest. it may be emotionally exhausting by the end of it but I promise, it might help your heart feel a bit lighter.
• 🧴 talk out your fears / discomforts / thoughts that you are having at the moment with a stuffie! it may sound silly but it’s like the writing one, just letting everything off your chest can help you feel just a little bit lighter and may help the rest of your regression go somewhat more smoothly. your stuffies will listen to you no matter what, bub.
• 🧴 get a bunch of blankets - spread them out on your bed and turn off the lights / some of the lights! this is towards those who impurely regress and feel scared or anxious because they are alone or feel vulnerable. you can hide within all the blankets and make somewhat of a cozy cocoon almost, so you’re protected by them all. dimming the lights / turning them off can help you feel less out in the open and a little less vulnerable.
• 🧴 sleep or take some naps! when I regress involuntarily, I personally get very tired and almost just- emotionally numb? and sometimes napping away the feelings helps just a little bit. trying to go to sleep while feeling so bad doesn’t always work but it could help you.

While it can be really comforting and healing to have a caregiver or someone to help look after you while you’re feeling regressed, here is some ways to love and comfort your inner child on your own. (Disclaimer: these are things I have done that have helped me but may not work for everyone. If you have any suggestions, please add to this! <3) Have a chore chart/task list & give yourself rewards: Make sure you take into account what your daily lifestyle is and give yourself tasks that are attainable. These tasks do not have to be super “big” to be celebrated as overall you want these tasks to be beneficial to you mentally & physically. For example, some tasks that are included on my list are working out, feeding myself, having water, reading, etc. Learn to be proud of your accomplishments both large and small. Talk to/comfort small you: Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed/sad or having the best day ever, talk with yourself & praise yourself for the positive things you’re doing. Some examples of this include: “I know we’re feeling overwhelmed right now but we are doing great and I’m super proud!” “You’re doing your very best and that is what is most important.” “I know we feel scared but we’re okay, we’re safe, and we are going to get through this”
Find ways to include small you during the day: I’ve found that going about my day to day adult life can make small me feel neglected and it can make me sad. To avoid this, I try and find some ways to include that childlike part of myself into the day. Some ways I do this is bringing kiddo things with me to work (Disney princess cup, stimming toys for break time, etc), looking at the toy section when I go grocery shopping, picking a new stuffie to sleep with each night, coloring pictures/doodling in the evening, eating snacks little me likes, etc. Treat yourself as you would a kid/friend: This may seem a bit odd or confusing at first but in time it will feel like second nature. Overall, what I really mean by this is imagine you are caring for your younger self or a friend and act accordingly. Make sure you are feeding yourself, bathing yourself, allowing yourself proper rest, validating your own feelings, etc. We are often times are worst critic and for a lot of us who suffer with mental health issues (or even physical ones), we can be really harsh with ourselves when we are simply just doing our best and deserve to be cared for.
