Summary: Reginald "Rex" Fettson is the Land Agent for Shillshire Castle in England, the home of Lady Amelia Ahsoka Tano, his childhood sweetheart. When war breaks out across Europe in 1914, Rex is swiftly sent to the frontlines and in his absence Ahsoka is hurriedly engaged to a member of fine society at her father's behest: a Member of Parliament with great connections and even greater wealth.

When Rex is on leave from the frontlines, the two meet again, by chance, or perhaps by fate. Will they rekindle their long, lost love despite the limitations of their rank and station? Or will they obey the expectations of their positions, and allow life's one true love to pass them by?

Welcome to my Rexsoka AU: inspired by Downton Abbey and a recent trip I took to England. After touring all the castles and the English countryside, I couldn't help the flood of ideas I had for early 1910s Rexsoka <3 Some inspiration has been taken from Downton Abbey (which is one of my favorite shows of all time, if you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it), and from the history of similar estates and wealthy families of that time, but I tried to give it my own spin.

With a frown, he pivoted slightly, facing her at an angle. The sunlight filtering through the windows hit his face, highlighting the angry red mark her palm had left upon his cheek. Eldhira continued to cry. She hated him. She hated herself. Why she’d thought this dangerous scheme could work, she did not know. But his next words bolstered her resolve, sealing his fate and hers. “Dar’eth Shiral… Inquisitor Lavellan.” Eldhira stared him down, using his words and her hurt to lock away her softer feelings. Fen’harel left her without another word, all alone, to ponder how one who’d held her heart so softly could be the one who rent it open so completely, even after all these years. She supposed it didn’t matter. In the end, it would either be his blood or hers staining these marble floors, and the one left alive would be the one who truly lost.

Why you should write healthy marriages:

1. They aren’t done enough.

2. They help other people understand what a healthy relationship looks like.

3. Fights can last for weeks and still be part of a healthy marriage.

4. Stereotypes. Break all the marriage stereotypes.

5. Soft cute couple moments DON’T stop after marriage.

6. Marriage is completely independent of character arcs. Those two individuals with trauma will still be two individuals with trauma but with gold rings.

7. A healthy marriage is one where people understand that their partners have baggage/trauma/flaws, but love them even in rough patches. 

8. It isn’t that healthy marriages aren’t compelling, it’s that people don’t know how to write marriages correctly. 

9. Marriages being an end goal often perpetuates that women are trophies to be won.

10. Marriages being an end goal often perpetuates that someone’s “freedom” ends there. Bury this trope, please, I beg of you.
