Summary: Being a manager for the Inazarki volleyball club wasn't easy, especially dealing with their chaos. They had made great friends because of it and had caught some attention as well, especially from Miya Osamu. For him, having a crush on the manager isn't ideal but it wasn't anything that he can control. The worst thing about it, watching your crush already be in a relationship with your teammate.
Genre: friends to lovers, angst, drama, fluff
Warnings: Swearing, yelling, teasing, suggestive themes.

valentine's day with kageyama is sweet but hectic. he goes all out because it's a special day and he finally has a special person. i'm talking flowers, chocolates, gifts, dinner at a fancy restaurant, and of course dessert all timed down to the t. he's been planning for over a month, scouring websites for ideas, and visiting store after store to find the right things for you. and honestly the adlers boys are a little tired of hearing about it, but they've also never seen him so passionate about anything that wasn't volleyball until you. so they chime in with comments here and there to help him out. and it's obvious he's nervous. you caught on pretty early, so you try to reassure him he doesn't have to do anything over the top. you love him, and he loves you. it's just another day in the span of a year, but he just shakes his head because, "why wouldn't i do all this and more for you?"

09. to compete or not compete ♡
“No.”
Tomeka looks at you as though you shat on her desk while she watched. Her hands are clasped before her face with her lips pursed into a pout. With narrowed eyes behind her glasses, she takes a pause before shooting you down in response.
“Look, l/n, I understand that you’re anxious. That fall could have been serious, and I am very glad that you are not injured. However I have already named you and Oikawa as a pair and, if I don’t replace him in the pairs, he won’t be allowed to compete in the solos. Neither will you.”
What? Pull you from the competition? Your jaw slackens at the thought of not competing, heart sinking. Despite your desperation to start begging Tomeka to change her mind, you have to remind yourself that begging might do more damage than it’s worth.
“Well, I’m not dancing with anyone else in the team. I want to do lifts, and I don’t trust them.” You shrug your shoulders and lean back in the chair, waiting patiently for Tomeka to respond.
A part of you was hoping she would give in and reveal she was lying, but instead her expression softens and she nods in agreement. She rises from her chair and waves you to follow after her.
Oh no.
“I had a feeling that would be the case, so I spoke it over with the coach of the hockey team.”
Oh no.
You follow her out towards the rink where the team are finishing up their morning practice. She smiles at some students she knows and pats her husband’s shoulder on the way past.
“Iwaizumi-kun, can you come here?”
Oh no.
You want to start screaming; throw a tantrum in front of everybody to convey your disgust at the thought. There are fifteen people on this team, and she had to choose him? What about Matsukawa? He could do it, easily!
Iwaizumi looks between you and the coach as he removes his helmet. “Sure.” He sets it on the bench and steps away from Hanamaki.
Tomeka has you both sit on the benches, standing in front of you both. “Captain of the hockey team needs good grades, commitment, and talent. You have all three. You are most suited for figure skating.”
Iwaizumi’s jaw drops wide open at the comment, you’re almost shocked it didn’t dislocate. He stares at Tomeka in disbelief before bursting into a fit of laughter. “Yeah, no chance.”
Instantly, you push yourself to your feet. “Well, we can’t force him!” A nervous laugh slips out. “I just… won’t compete.”
You know it’s complete, utter bullshit from the second it forms on your tongue.
Tomeka knows this and she makes it clear. She places one hand on her hip and eyes you up and down. “So you’re willing to sacrifice your title?”
No. Never in a million years. That title is yours, and you’ll be damned if anyone tries to claim it.
You slowly sit back down and start trying to figure out what you should say to Iwaizumi. All your desperation is about to come tumbling out of your mouth, ready to drop on your knees and hold his legs until he has no choice but to agree.
It’s then you realise something: he almost broke your nose. He tried to give you flowers when you were in the middle of a conversation with your coach. He was a dick to you first. Then he continued it. He owes you this.
So that’s exactly what you tell him. He looks at you with an amused smile, ready to start laughing along with you (because apparently you’re a comedian mow?). When he’s met with a deadpan look shielding what he assumes is either the wrath of a thousand suns or a year-long depressive episode, a sigh slips out.
“If I agree, will you be nice to me?” Iwaizumi assumes that’s a reasonable question to ask — he clearly doesn’t know you that well.
“Will you actually try or are you going to keep being a raging cunt?”
Tomeka claps her hands together to shut you both up, her glare sending a shiver down your spine. “Here’s an idea for you both. Work together, or I won’t have you competing, and you will be on the bench for the entire season.” She points between the two of you with a twisted smile. “How does that sound?”
With a heavy sigh, Iwaizumi turns to face you. “Fine. But watch that fucking tone, or I’m out.”
“Right back at you.”

Imagine Luca meeting you at the beach after watching you surf waves. Like, he showed up surf and just enjoy himself, and he does, but he didn't expect to see you absolutely killing it on the water. When you come back to dry land, he knows he has to introduce himself to you because that was awesome.
So, he approaches with that pretty smile and compliments your skill, sticking his board in the sand and holding it happily as you two start a conversation about how the waves are great today and how you got into surfing. Before you know it, you're walking over to a food truck parked nearby and exchanging numbers.
When he talks about you and how you met, he definitely gets some good hearted teasing from his team about his "beach babe" but he could care less about that. He smiles just thinking about you and can't wait to see you again.

The Monaco sun bore down on the paddock, its golden glow making everything seem brighter—everything except the storm brewing inside you.
It wasn’t the first time you had been caught between your brother and your boyfriend, and knowing the way the media twisted narratives, it certainly wouldn’t be the last.
"She's in Carlos' garage again?"
"Guess we know where her loyalty lies"
"Poor Charles. His own sister doesn’t even support him"
The whispers never stopped. No matter what you did, someone had an opinion about it. If you were seen with Carlos, you were a bad sister. If you were supporting Charles, you were a neglectful girlfriend.
There was no winning with them.
But today, after months of keeping quiet, you had had enough.
The weekend had started out promising. Monaco was home for both you and Charles, and it was always a special kind of race. One where your family was present, where old childhood memories resurfaced as you walked the familiar streets.
You had been excited, looking forward to seeing both Charles and Carlos fight for the top spots in qualifying.
That excitement, however, had quickly soured when you saw the headlines flooding social media.
BREAKING: Charles Leclerc’s sister chooses sides: Spotted in Sainz’s garage instead of her brother’s.
Your grip tightened around your phone as you stared at the article. They made it sound like you were betraying Charles just by standing next to Carlos before his qualifying session.
Never mind the fact that you had been in Charles’ garage just thirty minutes earlier.
Never mind the fact that you loved both of them in completely different ways.
Carlos had seen the article, too. He could always read your mood, even when you tried to mask it. When you arrived at his motorhome later that evening, his first words weren’t hello but instead a soft, “You’re upset”
You sighed, flopping down on the couch.
“I don’t get it. How is it that no matter where I stand, I’m always wrong?”
Carlos sat down beside you, his hand immediately finding yours.
“They don’t know you,” he said simply. “They only know the stories they want to write.”
His words made sense, but they didn’t make the situation any less frustrating.
You were tired of walking a tightrope, tired of constantly having to prove your love for both your brother and your boyfriend.
“I don’t even want to check Twitter,” you muttered, resting your head against Carlos’ shoulder.
He pressed a kiss to your forehead.
“Then don’t” he whispered.
You wished it were that easy.
Race day was no better.
You had split your time between both garages as you always did. Before the race started, you had been by Charles’ side, giving him your usual pre-race pep talk, something you had done for years.
The cameras had captured the moment perfectly — the way Charles smiled at you, the way you squeezed his hand just before he climbed into the car.
But then, once the race started, you had shifted to Carlos' garage. It was an unspoken agreement between you and Charles that you would support Carlos during the race.
Charles had Joris, his mom, and the entire Ferrari team backing him up. Carlos, while also surrounded by his own support system, had you. And you knew how much it meant to him.
The moment you stepped into Carlos’ side of the garage, you could already hear the murmurs.
“She was just with Charles.”
“She really can’t decide, can she?”
“Maybe she should’ve dated someone from another team.”
You clenched your jaw, trying to block out the noise.
It wasn’t fair. None of it was fair.
You watched the race unfold, fingers gripping the edge of your seat as both Charles and Carlos fought hard on track. Every overtake, every pit stop, every strategy decision had you on edge.
You just wanted them both to succeed. Was that really so wrong?
When the checkered flag waved, Charles had finished P3, Carlos P5. A bittersweet result.
As soon as you made your way to parc fermé, you congratulated Charles first, wrapping your arms around him. He hugged you back tightly, murmuring a soft "Merci" against your ear.
And then you moved to Carlos, giving him the same love and support.
The cameras caught it all.
By the time you reached your phone again, social media was already on fire.
Does she not realize how bad this looks?
She barely even celebrated with Charles before running to Carlos.
I feel so bad for Charles. Imagine your own sister prioritizing your teammate over you.
Your fingers hovered over the keyboard, itching to reply. To defend yourself. But you knew it wouldn’t change anything. They had already made up their minds about you.
Carlos must have noticed the way your face fell, because he gently plucked your phone from your hands and locked it.
“Enough of that,” he said, voice firm but gentle. “Come on, let’s get out of here.”
You hesitated, your eyes darting to your brother's side of the garage.
“But Charles—”
“—is fine,” Carlos assured you. “I’m sure he’ll be the first one to tell you to ignore all this bullshit.”
And he was right.
Later that night, as you sat on Charles’ balcony overlooking the city, your brother nudged your shoulder.
“I saw the things people were saying,” he said. “It’s stupid.”
You sighed, your shoulders slumping.
“I just hate that they make it seem like I have to choose between you and Carlos.”
Charles frowned, shaking his head at you.
“You don’t. And you never have to. We both know where your heart is.”
You blinked, looking at him. “You do?”
He nodded. “Yes. And if they can’t see that, then they’re not worth your time.”
A lump formed in your throat, as you tried to keep yourself from crying.
“I just don’t want you to ever feel like I don’t support you.”
Charles gave you a small, reassuring smile.
“I’ve never doubted you, chérie. Not once.”
Tears pricked at your eyes, but before they could fall, Charles pulled you into a hug, holding you tightly.
Carlos found you both a few moments later, pausing in the doorway.
“Can I join?”
Charles rolled his eyes but opened an arm, letting Carlos pull you into his chest.
And for the first time that weekend, the noise of the outside world faded away.
You weren’t just Carlos’ girlfriend.
You weren’t just Charles’ sister.
You were you—someone who loved them both with all her heart.
And that was enough.

FIFTEEN SECONDS — SAKUSA KIYOOMI
content: female reader, friends to lovers, love confession, fluff, bit of comedy. word count: 1,2k.
note: here’s a little something for valentine’s day, hope you like it!
What should I say?
“Here.” No, too dry.
“Here, it’s for you.” Shit, still too dry.
“I bought this for you, I hope you like it.” Okay, that one wasn’t so bad.
For the past ten minutes, Kiyoomi had been locked in a brutal staring contest with the small black box sitting on the café table. The thing wasn’t even looking at him, and yet he was the one losing.
This was ridiculous. He was ridiculous.
He had bought the damn gift two weeks ago. Two weeks of overthinking, of waiting for the perfect moment, of nearly shoving it to the back of his closet out of sheer nerves. But then Valentine’s Day crept up on him, and he thought—maybe this was fate giving him a chance.
Or setting him up for humiliating rejection.
Kiyoomi had rehearsed this moment in his head. And still, here he was, breaking into a nervous sweat over a bracelet. What if you didn’t like it? What if you thought it was stupid? What if you liked someone else?
Then, in the middle of his internal crisis, a familiar voice nearly made him jump.
“Hey, Kiyoomi.”
He looked up so fast he almost knocked the gift off the table. There you were, standing in front of him with that impossibly pretty smile, your presence alone enough to make his pulse go haywire.
“Did you already order, or should I—?” You asked as you sat down in front of him.
“I already did.” He forced his voice to stay steady. “Iced latte with two shots of vanilla, right?”
Your smile grew. “You know me so well.”
Yeah, because I’m hopelessly in love with you.
The words were right there. On the tip of his tongue.
Relax, Kiyoomi. Ease into it.
That was the smart thing to do. You didn’t just shove a confession at someone out of nowhere—there should be a conversation first, something natural.
“So, uh…” He wracked his brain for something—anything—normal to say. “How’s work?”
You blinked, caught off guard. “It’s fine?”
What the hell was that, Kiyoomi? It was comical how his calm and collected personality seemed to disappear at this moment when he needed it most. Was love always this complicated? Or was it because it was about you?
You tilted your head. “Are you okay?”
No. No, he was absolutely not okay. His fingers tapped anxiously against the small box. The longer he waited, the worse this was getting. His nerves were eating him alive. He could already feel the impending doom of chickening out.
Screw it.
With zero transition or warning, he grabbed the box and shoved it across the table. “Here.”
Goddamn it.
You blinked in surprise. “For me?”
A stiff nod. This was fine. You’d open it, love it, and then he’d tell you. Smooth. Simple. Foolproof.
Except…
You were taking your sweet time untying the ribbon.
Kiyoomi clenched his jaw, resisting the urge to do it for you. Why were you so slow? Was this some kind of test? Did you already know he was panicking and just wanted to see him suffer?
Finally, you lifted the lid. Your lips parted as you took out the delicate silver bracelet, the small star charm catching the café’s warm light.
“Oh, Kiyoomi…” You breathed. “It’s beautiful.”
His fingers twitched under the table as your eyes widened slightly. “Wait… this is—”
Kiyoomi looked away, pretending to be fascinated by the café menu on the wall. “Yeah.”
Your fingers traced the charm, realization dawning. “This is the bracelet from that shop at the mall, isn’t it?”
He cleared his throat. “Maybe.”
You turned to him, eyes suspiciously bright. “You went back for it?”
Kiyoomi picked up his coffee, taking a slow sip as if that would somehow make this moment less humiliating. “You wouldn’t stop staring at it.”
“I looked at it for like, five seconds.”
“It was at least fifteen.”
You laughed, shaking your head. “You’re unbelievable.”
This was it. The perfect moment.
He took a breath, preparing to say the words that had been stuck in his chest for way too long.
“I—” He began, but the words he had rehearsed for days were interrupted when a waiter appeared at the table.
“Here’s your order! One vanilla iced latte and one black coffee.”
Kiyoomi clenched his jaw so hard he thought he might crack a tooth. Not now, man.
He nodded stiffly as you thanked the waiter. Okay, fine. Minor setback.
“What were you saying?” You asked after the guy turned around, taking a sip from your drink.
His heart was about to beat out of his chest. Now. Now is the time. Just say it: I like you.
Kiyoomi opened his mouth, determined to do it, but then—
“Do you need any sugar?”
Oh my god.
Kiyoomi glared at the waiter. Who was back. Did this man have a vendetta against his love life?
He mumbled a half-hearted, “No, thanks.”
“Cream?”
“No, thanks.”
“Any appetizer? We have a special red velvet cake because of Valentine's Day.”
Was this a joke?
“We’re fine.”
“Actually, I want a slice of cake.” You said.
Before the waiter could leave, Kiyoomi muttered, “Make that two.”
The guy finally left, and he was beginning to get irritated by his bad luck.
Just do it now! He scrambled at himself mentally.
“Y/N, I bought–” He hurried to say, but then the loud hiss from the blender machine drowned out his voice.
Was this the universe making fun of him?
By now, he was one more interruption away from actually losing it. So, ignoring the annoying noise, he decided to just keep going, “I bought this because–”
“Oh! Look at that dog outside.”
Kiyoomi stopped mid-sentence as you turned to the window, grinning at a fluffy golden retriever wagging its tail on the sidewalk. Are you serious?
But, when he turned back to you, you were watching him with amusement.
You two made eye contact for a few seconds, he blinked, you blinked, and then— you laughed.
He narrowed his eyes suspiciously. “What?”
You smirked. “Kiyoomi, don’t be so shy.”
His stomach dropped.
“I like you too.”
For a full three seconds, his brain just ceased to function.
You… what?
His ears burned. His grip tightened on his cup. His entire soul left his body. “You knew?”
You giggled, tapping his hand lightly. “Of course. I actually got something for you too.”
You reached into your bag and pulled out a small gift box, setting it on the table in front of him. Kiyoomi tried—really tried—not to look too eager as he picked it up and carefully lifted the lid.
Inside was a watch. The watch. The one he had lingered on in the mall that day.
“You looked at it for at least fifteen seconds.” You teased, a knowing smile playing on your lips.
Kiyoomi froze. His fingers tightened around the box as the realization sank in.
You had noticed. Just like he had noticed you staring at the bracelet. You both had thought of each other.
For a moment, he couldn’t speak. His throat felt tight, his chest oddly warm. He looked up at you, something soft, something real in his gaze.
“This is—”
“Here they are! Two slices of red velvet cake!”
Kiyoomi visibly twitched.
Oh, come on!
"Oh good show, sir. For a moment, I was afraid you'd had a rational thought"
prev. | current | next | series list | character intros a note from sunnie: there are two separate written sections! I couldn't add my usual dividers bc of a picture limit!
The moment you step into the house party, you know you're in for a night.
Your group separates almost immediately. Shoyo runs off—dragging Tsukki like a begrudging anchor—to find some of their teammates. Kuroo, Suga, and Kiyoko head towards the kitchen to find drinks, while you mumble something about needing to use the bathroom.
It's a lie, so you wait until Kiyoko is tucked away safely in the kitchen before you cross the party in determined steps towards the only reason you even showed up.
"Don't you dare mess this up for us, Tanaka." You threaten, interrupting the conversation he had been previously engaged with. You'd seen him as soon as you'd entered, talking against the far wall with Iwaizumi Hajime, acting like he wasn't investigating everyone that walked in the door.
"I won't! Wait, us?" Tanaka defends, chest puffing out with determination during the time it took for his mind to catch up with your words.
"Yes, us. Don't tell her I said this, but she likes you. So, now you have no excuse to not ask her out." You level him with a flat look, though after a few seconds the corners of your lips curve upwards and you're left with no choice but to smile at him.
You really do like Tanaka. It's just fun to mess with him.
But maybe you took it too far. The poor boy looks like his mind is melting.
You don't have any time to think it through, because without any further teasing, Tanaka takes off in a determined, albeit nervous, stride towards the kitchen.
You're left alone with Iwaizumi, grinning like the cat that got the canary at the knowledge that your plan was set into motion so easily. You've talked Iwaizumi enough for it to not be awkward, though every encounter you've ever had with him was either in the context of his athletic trainer internship or him apologizing for Oikawa's dumb comments.
"Nice of you to do that for Tanaka." Iwaizumi hums over the rim of his cup. You'd prearranged with Suga that he would bring you a drink, so you're not in any rush to take off and find one while you watch Tanaka psych himself up to enter the kitchen. "He's got it bad for Shimizu."
"Believe it or not, the feeling is actually mutual." You grin, thinking of the way your shy, quiet friend gushed in her own way about the spiker.
"Speaking of unbelievable things," Iwaizumi steers the conversation away from Tanaka, and you're unsure what to think as you wait for him to finish his thought. "Oikawa seems to be actually trying to be a better person since your argument."
You cringe, but not because Oikawa was brought up.
"You mean, more like since I yelled at him in front of everybody and their mother and got the whole volleyball department in trouble?"
"Yeah. But don't worry. I know he had it coming." Iwaizumi teases, and you can't help but snort. You also can't help the way your stare floats over the crowd, searching for a head of familiar brown hair that may or may not be wearing a matching outfit with you. "Look, I don't want you to think I'm only saying this because he's somehow my best friend, but I really think you should give him a chance to show you what he could be like."
"Hasn't he already shown me that?" You ask, brows knitting together and giving Iwaizumi your full attention. He knew Oikawa better than anyone, and had stuck around him for so many years. If a guy as good as Iwaizumi was vouching for Oikawa, then maybe he had a point.
And maybe you were starting to wonder if you were seeing the real Oikawa, too.
Iwaizumi shook his head, and you knew that he was being honest.
"Oikawa thinks he has to pretend for people to like him. He's been this way since we were kids. But... he's different with you. He's himself."
Your attention flicked to the crowd once more.
And suddenly, all you wanted to do was find out if Iwaizumi was telling the truth.
An hour into the party, and you still haven't actually talked to Oikawa.
But you had spent that time with your friends, crammed onto the couch and laughing loudly. At one point, Bokuto and Kuroo start shoving each other playfully, and you know you have only seconds before they start full on wrestling, so you jump from your spot on the couch and weave through the crowd towards the kitchen for a fresh drink.
There are more people than you expected. Not only was it the boy's team and friends, but you'd seen your own teammates and other sports members littered throughout the house. It's not crazy packed like a frat party, but you're glad for it. You'd rather not deal with the all sweaty, arrogant men you found on Frat Row.
With all the extra bodies, you don't think twice about the figure sliding in next to you at the counter where you're mixing a drink, assuming they're just waiting their turn for the display of mixers.
Though, when the person speaks, you realize they were waiting for something else.
"You dating any of those guys you showed up with?"
Instinctively, your face twists into a scathing mixture of disgust, distaste, and flat out annoyance. It doesn't take you long to put a name with the face, and you know you're looking at Yuuji Terushima.
You know a few things about him. He's on the school's rec volleyball team. He's not half bad at it, anyways, but he screws around too much to actually develop any skills. And he cheated on your teammate only a few short weeks earlier when they tried out dating.
You had tried to talk her out of it. Terushima tried out dating with anyone who'd let him.
"Did'ja hear me?" He asks, smirking like he knows he's hot—though you know far too much about him to fall for any sort of charm he attempts.
"I heard you," You roll your eyes, not looking up as you finish mixing your drink. You'd be damned if Terushima was going to get in the way of your refill. "I just don't want to answer you."
He smirks wider, clearly enjoying you giving in an answering him.
"Don't be so mean, sweetheart."
It's then that you try and turn to leave, but try becomes the operative word as you twist in place only for Terushima to slide easily to the space you were going to use to escape.
He's got you blocked in against the counter, and briefly your heart rate spikes. Your attention darts throughout the kitchen, but you don't know anybody that's left lingering in the small space.
"Even if you are dating one of them," Terushima continues on, like he wasn't making you incredibly uncomfortable. "They don't have to know—"
Suddenly, Terushima is jerked away from you. You have a split second to recognize a hand clamped on his shoulder until your line of sight frees up, only to be replaced by a broad back wedged protectively between the two of you.
"Hey, man." Oikawa. He's the one who came your your rescue, who was currently glaring daggers at Terushima, if your glance at the side of his face told you anything. "She's not interested. Get lost."
And though Terushima was still smirking at you, he raised his hands as if claiming innocence. With nothing more than a wink in your direction, he melted back into the crowd.
Oikawa waits until Terushima is completely gone before turning back to face you, frown etched deep onto his face. You realize you've never seen him genuinely frown, only playfully. It makes your stomach twist in nerves.
"Are you okay?" His voice is deep and gravelly, and you can tell he's still pissed off.
"Yeah, I'm fine." You nod, crossing your arms over your chest. You were uncomfortable, but not because Oikawa. No, you were grateful for him, a foreign feeling. "He was just being pushy, but he didn't touch me, or anything."
"I swear, I'm going to have Iwaizumi kick him out."
"My hero," You tease, snorting out a laugh. The sound makes Oikawa's frown falter, and you pinch your arm to keep from smiling at the sight. "I think I'm going to head home, though."
"Can I walk you back?" You can tell he's still worked up over what he walked in on, so you know he's not trying to pull any moves.
It makes you think of Iwaizumi's earlier words, and suddenly you're answering before you realize.
"Please."

hinata's big dream (besides going pro in vball) is for oikawa and yn to date. truly thinks of them as mom and dad but he's too scared of yn to say so
