HHHJFHNNG OHHH MY GOD I FINALLY BEAT GRIM MATCHSTICK!!! I CAN'T FEEL MY HANDS
This was my design for the Riddler, please ignore the fact that he has no hands š I thought I would get around to drawing them but I didn't. Pretend he's smoking or holding a loaf of bread or something.
ANYWAYS I didn't have an idea on what I wanted to do for him until I came across a documentary on the Enigma code in WW2 and was like "huh I forgot about that" - all I have on my 1940s-ish version of him so far is that he was born poor but accumulated wealth, and adopted the guise of a bored rich socialite to cope with the fact he grew up dirt poor. Germany was left pretty much starved of resources after the treaty that ended WW1 so that's probably why. The Enigma code was developed in Germany shortly after WW1 but in my universe I like to think he invented it because haha. Inventing a nearly unbreakable code and then naming it after yourself sounds like something Riddler would do lol
I think he'd wear a lot of military inspired clothing, he seems like he'd be really into bomber jackets. I gave him a tiny mustache because I think it's funny that all the bad guy gangster thugs in old movies have one
In one episode of the Scooby Doo Show, Velma mentioned that she knew Morse code beacuse she was in girl scouts.... when I tell you I SCREAMED because I was ALSO in girl scouts (though I never learned morse code :/ ) and because two of my special interests are scooby doo and vintage fashion, but one of my, like, sub categories of special interests lol under vintage fashion is the history of girl scouts and vintage gs uniforms!! They were sososososoo cute and they changed with the fashion of the times <33 I own a 1939 junior uniform too! ANYWAYS this had to be created. The gang's ages aren't really specified and obviously they haven't aged over the years but since SD started 1969/1970, lets suppose Velma was a girl scout in the early to mid 60s. I put her in a senior uniform and tried to be as accurate as possible. yeah that's it!!!!
I am this š¤ close to starting a perry mason related side blog. Dangerously close. I'm warning y'all š«µ
I've been practicing backgrounds over the last week, and this was originally a study of a photo I took in Maine last year. I looove the beach and water is so hard to paint lol but I'm getting better. I read the Emily Windsnap books a lot when I was younger.... I love them so much and I still read them EVERY time I go to the beach, they perfectly describe the feeling of the ocean and what it's like to go to the beach. The illustrations are just UGH THEY'RE SO GOOD and I want to EAT them. Also I wanted to be a mermaid really bad when I was a kid lmao. So yeah! I was orignally going to stick a random mermaid in here but I thought what the heck. emily :)
hi people!! I'm making a new pinned post because I'm realizing that my blog is getting very disorganized lol.
My name is soapy/sophie, I'm 21, I'm a digital and traditional artist but mostly digital on here!! Some oc stuff, I also like Batman (specifically batman the animated series), Spider-man (tssm and the 90s cartoon!), scooby doo, perry mason (the 1950s show), a lot of reeeeeeally old movies, cuphead, uhh, Disney movies, I'm sure I'll think of more lol. I love fiber arts and sewing clothes especially. I'm Christian and I have a particular fascination with the Byzantine Empire/early Christianity! Some of my other interests are vintage fashion and archeology/history. all sfw here :) I don't have anything dealing with politics/current events on here either as I thoroughly despise the idea of politics lol and this is my little corner of the world to escape!
I do not do commissions as of now, I may in the future if I have more of an audience!

Have a good day go watch an old horror movie :)
I am not immune to big stupid men unfortunately šš I'm bout to be like spiderman and divide them into the Manageable Threes lmao
(Also you just made me realize I've been calling them the insidious six for the past MONTH because of the 90s animated show but they're actually the sinister six??? what???? how did I not know that. I cannot actually believe this)
Grabs your shocker art in my mouth and shakes it around, Iām #normal about it. Eating your artstyle btw
HEY!!!! STOP CHEWING ON THAT MAN HES MY MUSE
Hey we're all #normal about him. He's actually really fun to draw lol
Brooklyn Eagle, New York, October 31, 1920
Here they are... the final set (for now!) of vintage rogues.... they slowly declined in quality lmao
Firefly was based off of mainly WW1 flamethrower gear, he's just a weird amalgamation of stuff. If I were actually writing a story here I had the idea of him being a kid in Germany during WW1, maybe something tramatic happened involving fire and by the time WW2 electric boogaloo came around he was old enough to dress up and set things on fire....idk folks the two world wars tie in to each other a lot and I think thats some wasted potential!!!!
Roxie Rocket was just based on 1930s flight uniforms, and her rocket was inspired by those vintage sci-fi illustrations of what people though the future would look like. She never made it past sketch phase rip
The Mad Hatter!! Boy I was sad I didn't finish this one. I wanted to do a simple historically accurate 1860s look, since that's what most of the versions of him are based off of, as Alice in Wonderland was published 1865. While researching clothing I discovered that plaid pants were a thing in the mid 1800s?? I think a lot of designs give him checkered pants but that feels too modern to me... I had to give him plaid pants I feel like he would love plaid pants. He would eat them up.
So yeah!! I have a few more ideas for Scarecrow and Riddler sketched out so you might see them around :)
Thinking abt how much I love physical media lately. I don't think streaming services can replace the feeling of an actual, physical copy that I can hold in my hands, especially when I think about the box sets of shows I've had since childhood, lost their covers, corners are scuffed, etc. Same goes for comics - I have a handful of original printed comics and just being able to see the ads from the era makes me so happy lol. The ADS. I am NEVER happy to see an ad in the middle of an episode I'm watching on a streaming service!! Ik everyone's joking about DVDs making a comeback bc streaming services are getting worse but please I am all for it. I hoard those. They are mine forever, unlike a paid subscription. They can pry my 20 year old DVDs from my cold dead hands.
she/her ā” 21 ā” artist, always sfw!! currently stuck in a spider-man phase :/
