Elrond as Gil-Galad's Herald should be portrayed more often as a polite political fiction. Like, Elrond's heritage should put him in a very important political position, given exactly how many lineages of kings he's related to. But he's basically allergic to being in charge and every time a council member mentions Elrond getting named the heir, Gil-Galad has to spend half a day talking Elrond out of a tree. But they can't disregard it completely because there are plenty of elves whose loyalty is tied closer to Elrond than Gil-Galad no matter how publically Elrond defers to him.
So, they compromised and made him Gil-Galad's Herald, which is an important position that tells everyone he has Gil-Galad's explicit trust but also means he spends more time playing diplomat and messenger than expressing his own political opinions. Also, it'd be funny if Elrond spends more time essentially pioneering healing techniques than anything else and Gil-Galad sending him out on Herald work is essentially him saying "you're not allowed back in the library until you've eaten at least three meals (diplomatic dinners) and talked to ten people, you're the healer why do I have to tell you this."
Also, something with the two of them going to great lengths to try and get people to forget that Gil-Galad isn't actually that much older than Elrond. And at least one political dinner where a bard is about to sing the Lay of Luthien and has to make awkward eye contact with Elrond, because that's his grandma. And the public consensus that Elrond is probably the most forgiving person on middle earth given he acknowledges his technical kidnappers as his technical foster fathers. And how that acknowledgement technically makes him and Celebrimbor cousins (as opposed to the more distant cousin relationship through his grandmother, Idril, daughter of Turgon, son of Fingolfin, brother to Feanor - aka the guy who made the first jewelry wars were started over, Celebrimbor's grampa).
Imagine: it's Lan Sizhui's birthday and you've got his whole family celebrating, with Wei Wuxian dramatically lamenting how fast children grow up and Lan Wangji secretly feeling the exact same way. And Lan Sizhui assured them both many times there's no need to make a big deal of his birthday, it's not like Lans celebrate these things in grand style, but Wei Wuxian will throw a party for his son or so help him. And of course Lan Jingyi is there too, and Jin Ling, and maybe a bunch of other juniors because Lan Sizhui is absolutely one of the most popular and beloved in his generation. And everyone has a great time, really.
But at one point Wei Wuxian notices that Wen Ning isn't there anymore. He came at first, but he disappeared off somewhere, and it's weird because Wen Ning is so attached to his young cousin. So Wei Wuxian goes and ends up finding him by himself in the woods, and it's not that he has a weird face because fierce corpses can't really emote, but Wei Wuxian knows something is up.
So he goes and starts chatting with Wen Ning and tries to figure out what is going on. Was the celebration too many people for him? No, it was fine, it was all people he knee anyways. Is there something wrong? No, on the contrary.
"It's just," Wen Ning says "you are right. Children do grow up so fast."
"Yeah, they do. It seems like yesterday he was a tiny thing leaving slobber all over my flute, and now look at him, a proper young cultivator."
And Wen Ning doesn't make a sad smile, exactly, because his face is too stiff to, but he would have. "Little A-Yuan, all grown up. I don't know if I should still call him A-Yuan now, or if it would be weird."
"And why not? I do all the time. He's big now, but he'll always be my little boy."
"But you see, Master Wei, now, A-Yuan turned older than I ever got to be."

elrond as a dad is a concept people don't use enough frankly. just. elrohir and elladan and arwen following their ada around like ducklings. as they grow they keep doing it and it's not uncommon to see three adult elves just shadowing their father whenever they're not off causing chaos.
then arwen leaves and aragorn all but drops on elrond's lap and he picks up on it and now its elrohir, elladan and estel making a line after him. estel gets left behind easily so elrond is in the habit of checking that he's got all his kids following him.
after, in valinor, elrond will sometimes falter, not hearing the familiar steps following his own. even after elrohir and elladan sail, he'll turn every so often and freeze, panicking for a moment because where are arwen and estel? when did he leave them behind? and as soon as that moment is over he's just feeling the loss of them all over again. the twins never say anything, never protest or even seem to notice the sudden stops. they just leave him time to compose himself until he's ready to keep walking.
Thinking of the larger context of LOTR and like, the fellowship swapping old war stories and shit and Sam just says “Yeah I killed a huge spider…Shelob, I think?”
And Gandalf just blinks and is like, “You what now?”
“Yeah, killed it. Had to save Frodo”
Gandalf elects not to tell Sam that he killed the spawn of a primordial demon.
Feanor being handed a baby or toddler whenever he starts to rant bc it’s the One Thing guaranteed to stop him shouting.
Finwë discovered this quite by accident when Feanor was first presented with his baby sister because as soon as she was pressed into his arms he stopped complaining and started cooing.
Fingolfin going around armed with a baby (his own children, his brothers’ children, and grandchildren) whenever he knows he might say something that will upset Feanor. (Such as ‘hello’)
Feanor getting ready to swear the Oath and having Baby Idril (or Toddler Tyelpe) instantly pressed into his arms. The Oath doesn’t happen, the baby is comforted from the Dark and Scary Noises. It’s a win win situation.
