Old colourful tile with the enamel painting of a woman using two crutches, and holding her right foot up. She's wearing working class 18th century clothes: a long yellow skirt, a white apron, an ocre blouse with her sleeves rolled up to her elbows, and a white handkerchief around her head, covering all her hair except for her bangs.
Colourful tile with a representation of a man wearing 18th-century clothes and hat, using a cane with his left arm and a wooden leg under his bent knee on his right leg. The lower half of his right leg and his right foot are resting on top of the wooden leg, not touching the floor.
Colourful tile with a representation of a man wearing 18th-century clothes with a wooden leg starting on his left knee, and resting his right arm on a cane. His right arm ends at his elbow.
Colourful tile with a representation of a man wearing late 18th century clothes and holding a cane. He doesn't have a hand in his right arm, and below his left leg starts a prosthetic leg and foot.
Colourful tile with a representation of a man wearing a cape, sitting down with his legs held together at his front. It's unclear where he is sitting, but between him and the ground there seems to be two round shapes, similar to wheels.

17th- and 18th-century tiles decorated with representations of disabled people. From Barcelona, Catalonia. Museu d'Història de Barcelona: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

This tiles are "rajoles d'ofici" (meaning "job tiles" in Catalan language), a typical kind of decorated tiles that were very common in Catalonia between the 16th and 19th centuries, and which have become one of the most iconic examples of Catalan folk art. "Job tiles" are called this way because very often they represented people working, but they also represent people taking part in festivities, hobbies, or many other activities from daily life, as well as animals and workplaces. Thousands of these tiles have been preserved, and thanks to them we can see snippets of life a few centuries ago. (You can find more information and examples of these tiles in this previous post.)

27 40 + 44 😈

27. Any OCs that were inspired by a certain song?

the glass animals zaba album was extremely influential on jaspers character, especially black mambo and walla walla. a long while ago i made a playlist for jasper, but i could never get it to feel Right because i couldn't find other songs like the zaba album...

40. Any fond memories linked to your characters? Feel free to share!

honestly just everyday i get to talk about them with my friends since i am able to connect with people a lot easier using art <:] but one fond memory with heidi is that i got to meet one of my best friends lucio through her (though thats the case for any of my characters for how to ascend the tower... shes just my main one!)

44. Something you like about your OCs in general

a bit difficult to answer because of personal events in this past week, but i suppose i like that they all force me to read and engage with art more. research is really important to me, so i'm constantly trying to find new stories and subjects to learn about :]

a vibrantly colored work in progress illustration focusing on the face and hand of a man holding a quill. His eyes are bloodshot rainbows, his skin is blue and his hand is wearing a bright red glove. There's a ribbon of darkness coming from the tip of the quill

4. A character you rarely talk about?

i feel like i don't talk about ashiri's husband ray a lot... part of this is because he's not particularly fun to talk about on his own, and i cant really talk about his plot relevance without giving spoilers.

where's what i can share: hes an influential member of the harbour boys, a notorious gang run by dockworkers. the war between the lebub crime family and acelle corp has rattled the economics of montross, and as a result the recruitment and hostility of the harbour boys has been up.

original character ray facing us with a toothy grin. man with pale green skin with a dark path growing out from one side of his face. he has no eyes on the pale side of his face, but three eyes on the dark side of his face. he has short black pompadour.

32. Which one of your OCs would be the most suitable horror game protagonist and why?

kid is actually already written with the intention of making her a horror game protagonist! montross is a place thats really weird and unsettling, but all of its inhabitants are used to it being like that. all of that horror just becomes part of the mundane everyday life for them. kid on the other hand hasn't spent much time in montross at all. in fact she hasn't spent much time in any big city at all since shes used to working on a rural farm.

this makes her trip to montross terrifying because its such an unfamiliar environment: first, because its an urban space, and second, because its haunted and diseased. but she has to keep traversing this place if she wants to find what she needs to find :)

50. Give me the good ol’ OC talk here. Talk about anything you want

i've been trying to find a way to introduce people more to wtas without giving away too much... one of my problems is that i rewrite and revamp my stories Constantly so its a bit difficult to imagine as a finished product right now. AND the characters that i introduce now wont necessarily take that exact form in the story.

one thing i've been thinking about doing is creating smaller stories or something dedicated entirely to open worldbuilding, so that the change is part of the project. i've had this magic/alchemy story on the backburner for a few months but i've been thinking if i should share more info about it publicly ^.^

CURRENTLY i'm still in the preliminary research stage though, so anything i share would just be my initial concepts. i'm trying to find more stuff on alchemy... one video i've been meaning to sit down and watch for it is this one: I learned Alchemy from Medieval Manuscripts. Here's how it works
