nobody talks about how ugly taking care of yourself can be
yes, sometimes it’s taking a warm bath and texting memes to friends and keeping an aesthetically pretty journal.
sometimes it’s crying silently on your couch at 3am, hugging yourself and reminding yourself that you’re a good person.
self care is not always ‘aesthetic’ and cute…and that’s ok. don’t be embarrassed, just do what you need to do.
😖😖😖😖😖
here’s to all the people whose lives will be endangered for the next four years. here’s to all the people who aren’t white, straight, cis, male, rich, old, abled or Christian.
here’s to the Jewish people, and Muslims, and Buddhists, and Sikhs, and atheists, and other non-Christian religions.
here’s to gay people, and lesbians, and transgender people, and bisexual people, and asexual people, and intersex people, and pansexual people, and agender people, and genderfluid people, and everyone else who isn’t straight or cis.
here’s to women, trans and cis and genderfluid and agender and intersex and otherwise. here’s to women who won’t be able to get an abortion or seek help from planned parenthood.
here’s to black people, and to brown people, and to Hispanics, and to Latinx people, and to people of Asian descent, and to Native Americans, and to mixed people, and to everyone else who isn’t white. here’s to the immigrants who don’t know if they’ll be able to stay in the same country as their family.
here’s to the young people who’ll be in debt for decades because of college tuition. here’s to the young people who can’t even afford to go to college in the first place.
here’s to people who can’t afford to go to college. here’s to people who can’t get a well paying job because of their gender, race, sexual identity, or otherwise. here’s to people who will never know what it’s like to be financially comfortable. here’s to people that can’t afford a quick trip to the hospital and never will because of no medical insurance.
here’s to mentally disabled people, and physically disabled, and people who are both. here’s to mentally ill people who aren’t getting the help they need because they can’t pay for it or don’t know how to ask for it or are told they’re overreacting.
here’s to everyone who voted for a real change in order to be let down by the stupid and bigoted people in this racist, misogynistic, classist, abilist, anti-Semitic, Islamaphobic, homophobic, transphobic, and every other kind of ugly country. you don’t deserve this, and you never did.
and lastly: “all men are created equal.” here’s to that being the biggest piece of bullshit anyone has ever written.
one of the least helpful things ive been told as a neurodivergent person is “don’t half ass things”
if you can quarter ass something, do it! if all you can do is clean a corner of your room, or only read one of the two assigned chapters, or write the heading for your resume, or put all the papers for taxes in a pile, do it! if today isn’t a whole ass day, take pride in the portion of ass that you were capable of
don’t let neurotypicals work ethic define how you did today
THINK ABOUT HOW MANY PUPPIES WILL GET TO EXPERIENCE SNOW FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS WINTER. PUPPIES. CONFUSED ABOUT WHY THEIR FEET ARE COLD. CONFUSED ABOUT THIS FLUFFY STUFF. GOTTA BITE IT. GOTTA ROLL IN IT.
Sexual Assault Survivors’ Bill of Rights Became Federal Law 10/7/2016 https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/house-bill/5578/text 1. The rights of a survivor should never be contingent on reporting or pursuing legal action. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to dealing with trauma and these fundamental rights must be protected for every survivor. 2. Every survivor has a right to a sexual assault counselor; waiving the right to a counselor in one instance does not negate this right. 3. Fair and efficient rape kit procedures are a must. It is unacceptable that a kit might be misplaced or destroyed; to prevent this and delays, a tracking system must be developed. 4. There must be standard procedures for ensuring that survivors are informed of their rights. 5. In assessing the effectiveness of this policy and future policies, diverse voices and communities must be included in the conversation. The bill establishes a task force that includes representatives from communities of color, immigrant communities, organizations that conduct outreach/education/advocacy for BGLQT individuals, survivor advocates, law enforcement, and a SANE nurse. Thank you Amanda Nguyen, for spearheading this, and all who helped.
