A great overview article talking about; what shadow work is, how the shadow self is formed, and the basics of shadow work (with some exercises): https://scottjeffrey.com/shadow-work/#What_is_the_Shadow
What are yall’s thoughts on this? I’m planning to try some of these exercises out soon!

I have always loved thrift stores. When my family was poor-ish back in the day, I would often get one shopping trip a year for clothes at the thrift store and I would get all my halloween costume pieces there. Maybe it’s the nostalgia, maybe it’s that I myself am now poor-ish but either way I think we can all appreciate a good deal regardless. Especially on staple pieces that can be used for your practice. Now ON TO THE FINDS!
Books
Sometimes it takes a little luck but I’ve found a couple great useful books for 3$ or less each along the shelves of books in my local Value Village. The crystal healing ones I found were a huge deal to me back in the day when I was but a baby witch and they were dirt cheap.
Candle supplies
Every witch needs something to burn candles on/in. Now I’m not saying it needs to be fancy, for a long time I used a dollar store plate (psa, do not burn candles on surfaces you care about because scraping wax off things is not a delicate process) but picking up some candle holders for less than 2$ is going to help keep candles from falling over and lighting your house on fire. You can also find some wicked pretty ones.
Curtains/Tablecloths/Pillowcases
Yes, I buy thrift store curtains. As I mentioned in my previous post in this series, many things may require scrap fabric and although you can get the dollar store scarves I prefer using old curtains or tablecloths from the thrift store. Not only will you be getting WAY more fabric but it doesn’t cost too much more than the dollar store.
String and/or Ribbon
Some of my spells and my favorite hex require some kind of yarn/string/thread. If your local thrift establishment of choice has any kind of craft section, no matter how big, you are in business. Bags of embroidery thread, spools of twine or other string and skeins of yarn are all SUPER cheap and often great quality. (Note: I mean the yarn, the other two options are pretty standard) Sometimes I can even find ribbon spools but those are interchangeable with plain old coloured string.
Picture Frames
Are you setting up your altar? Do you wish you had something nice to put the picture of your deity(ies) in? Look no further than the thrift store for GORGEOUS frames of literally every size imaginable.
Vases
You actually can not find nicer vases for cheaper than a thrift store. I don’t know what else you’d use them for, crystals maybe? Dried flowers waiting to be used? Candles? Either way, if you need one, there are virtually none cheaper or easier to find. Same goes for crystal or glass bowls. Besides, if you kill plants like yours truly, having flowers that are guaranteed to die is a nice way to enjoy plants without having to remember to water them.
JARS
That alone should be enough but I do want to chuck in one piece of advice. Do not forget about the cup aisle! I got a sweet glass skull that screws closed with your standard mason jar lid because it was donated with one of those lids with a hole and a straw. Hence it was a “cup” but NOT ANYMORE! It holds my dead flowers. I named him Herman.
As always, feel free to send me a message if you’d like/have more questions. Hopefully soon I’ll make a trip to IKEA for the next post in this series! If there’s something you’d like me to cover, let me know.
Much love ~ ♥
i don’t have access to most witch resources (herbs, crystals, divination tools, etc) so i often opt to incorporate simple witchcraft on my daily routines:
chanting a spell as i take a shower to cleanse my body and re-establish a layer of protection (great for witches who associate with water)
use spells to help my skin be clear and healthy as i do my skincare routine
draw sigils on foggy surfaces (eg. mirrors after a hot shower)
pour good intentions into my cooking (health, prosperity, etc for those who eat it)
enchant my drinks so they can help cleanse my body from the inside
get permission to eat edible offerings to impart the energy, strength, and wisdom of my deities/guardians/etc
use part salt water when i mop the floor to cleanse my space regularly
enchant my money so that when they’re with me, they keep my finances prosperous and when i use them they’ll help me earn more in the future (you can also enchant them so nobody can use them for “bad” purposes, curse those who steal it, etc the possibility is endless)
enchant and charge my detergent so when i wash my clothes, any energy that negatively impact me that stuck to them will be neutralized
use glamour spells when i put on my make up
cleanse my living space using smoke from incenses (usually ones i’ve offered to my patron deity, after getting their permission) and establish a layer of invisibility protection
use novels and textbooks i have for bibliomancy
basically enchant everything and anything cause there are no limits to this!
First and foremost, every single element has an ability to be used for cleansing and banishing.
Air: Used to literally "blow away" energy
Open your windows
Turn on a fan
Use your breath (there's a reason you sometimes snuff a candle and other times blow it out)
Water:
Running water over an object (make sure this object is safe to do that with, okay? Don't be like the raccoon with the cotton candy)
Ritual baths and showers
Washing/cleaning
Earth:
Salt (again, careful with where you put the salt, but still)
Plants can be used as protective barriers
Burying an object for a period of time before digging it back up and cleaning it off
Certain rocks and crystals
Fire:
To get the obvious out of the way - burning. This does not mean you should commit arson. This is more "burning photographs of past relationships" not "light your ex on fire"
Burning candles
Spirit:
Meditation
Self care as a priority
Cleaning your space regularly
Now, most common forms of cleansing do not use only a single element (especially fire, for obvious reasons). So here are some of the most common and easy ways to practice cleansing in a practical, everyday manner.
Smoke cleansing - combines air, fire, and earth. Practices by burning protective and banishing dried herbs, plants, incense, or wood.
Salt water - combines earth and water. Can be used in either ritual baths or on its own, spread near the borders of a space. But again, careful with where you put salt.
Crystal grid - combines earth and spirit. Create by placing protective crystals in each corner of a space.
Steam cleansing - combines air and water. Use essential oils if you so choose.
Ritual bath or shower - combines water, spirit, and if you want to add bath bombs, salt, or flower petals, earth.
Tea magic - combines water, earth, and (if you inhale the steam) air.
Literal cleaning rituals - combines spirit and any other elements you so choose. Do your laundry, clean your room, declutter what no longer serves you.

Tea is a powerful tool in witchcraft. I use it to improve my mood, give myself energy and strength, cure small illnesses, and bring casual magic to my life.

The First Harvest
I started this later than I meant to, so this one’s shorter than usual, but I home it’s still helpful. To end it all, here’s a masterpost with a bunch of links to help. Blessed be!
