TRULY the prevailing myth of John winchester is what breaks everything. Dean can’t say hey mom dad didn’t love me so I’m going to need you to overcompensate on his part so I can feel normal because they’re all pretending John DID love them. He was a great dad mary says fresh from the grave and dean gives her a tight smile. Because he’s spent SO many years editorializing John that he doesn’t want to voluntarily pull at that string. He’s rationalized John as A Loving Father. He’s internalized so much shit from His Loving Father. Dismantling John would dismantle his ENTIRE life. So he cant say John was shitty. Mary can’t know anything but the basics about their life. Dean wants his mom to give him compensation love but he cant tell her what he needs compensated for because if he has Issues about his dad then he has issues about how he HIMSELF acts and his way of life and everything crashes down if he stops pushing the myth. But of course he DOES have issues w his dad and not saying that doesn’t change that and so you get. I hate you. But I love you. You’re my mom.
It’s less of an au and more if a 1:1 of what happened in the show to think about dean as an 1800s merchant whose wife dies in childbirth and then says no when the doctor asks if he wants to hold the baby and closes off so severely the governess is afraid to talk to him about things that need done for the child’s care and there’s a lot of dean standing in the doorway while the baby wails with a tumbler of whiskey in hand and within five days he’s decided to send the baby off to live with his uncle and when Sam is like dean he’s the only thing you have left of cas now And more than that he’s YOUR SON Dean just stares at him blankly until Sam agrees to take him
being a phannie in 2024 is so cool because dan and phil post a video and the notification and title give you psychic damage. and then you see the thumbnail and it punches you right in the chest. and then you watch the video and it is 20-30 minutes of psychologically harrowing twink flirtation. and THEN you go on tumblr and reblog 200-300 posts about how happy and free dan and phil are in the video and it's like being shot.
