After getting more into the tumblr witchcraft scene, I’ve learned a LOT, and found some tech magic resources to help y'all so it’s time for an update of my previous What Is Tech Magic? post, now featuring how to actually do things! It’s gonna be long so here’s a friendly cut
Tech magic(also known as techno magic by some) is magic using technology such as computers, phones, tablets, etc. It can be anything from a spell written into code to a sigil as your wallpaper to a ward using your WiFi router.
I personally started with tech magic for 2 reasons:
1. I love technology and have grown up using it
2. It’s really easy to keep hidden in ways both magical and mundane
Some basic, and extremely common, forms of tech magic that you may already be doing include:
Online BoS, grimoire, whatever you refer to you ~magical book thing~ as
Emoji spells
”Reblog to get money” type posts- A lot of people don’t realize it, but these are quite magical! We have the intent(money, luck, etc) and the energy(everyone who reblogs it adds their belief or hope, charging it)
Actually using technology for witchcraft isn’t all that difficult, but can be weird for traditional magic users, so here’s a quick “Getting Started Guide”:
Choose a piece of technology to use - while this step isn’t necessary, getting used to one object’s energy will help when starting out. I recommend something you already use a lot, such as your phone!
Feel its energy - Just sit and hold it(or touch it if it’s too big to hold) and let its energy flow through you and yours through it.
Practice manipulating it’s energy like you would with anything else, pull it in, push it out, etc.
Find a specific spell you want to use! If you are a closeted witch maybe try a hiding spell or something similar!
Do it!!! Do the spell!
Cleanse your electronics!!!! Like anything else, they can get bad energy, so make sure you cleanse them regularly!
Connect to more technology! I like streetlights personally, they have a strange energy.
Bless/enchant your charger to cleanse while charging
Any normal cleansing method, smoke (don’t burn it!! Also idk about how smoke might affect the inner workings), Selenite, manually, etc. This seems like it should be obvious but Don’t Use Water My Dudes
A charmed background to auto cleanse!
Candle apps
Putting your phone’s background to spells/charms/sigils is amazing. I once had a thing for “I find cool stuff at the thrift store” and immediately found a signed Fallout Boy poster. I live in a city with like maybe 50000 people? It was a salvation army too like that was high quality shit
Cocoppa? I think is the name? Is an Android app that will change the icons for Apps so do with that info what you will
Tech magic is just as valid as any other form and can be incorporated with other types!!!
Tech magic isn’t just phones! Computers, TV’s, anything electronic basically can be used!
Learning to code can add some boppin’ things to your craft that I don’t want to go into right now
A master post of apps and stuff
A cool amulet
Some coding witch thoughts
A tech sigil tip

Ok so I am gonna say this is my personal reference, its mainly through associations. You might TOTALLY disagree and thats chill!
Its more something to think about and a guideline of what I use myself…
Candle Magic:
Carve a candle when…. the candle represents the target, in sympathetic magic. When, essentially, the candle is a poppet and lighting it is a symbol of destruction or empowerment to the target.
Place something under the candle or before it when… you are doing general candle magic, when the candle represents empowering a wish, idea or concept.
Anoint the candle when… doing work with spirits and gods, when you mark the candle for a special purpose, when doing high magic.
Herbs and plant work:
Use dry herbs when… it is convienent to do so, when the herbs are out of season or when you need to store them in a jar or bottle for a long time.
Use fresh herbs when… the spell is very earth orientated, when doing magic on behalf of another or when the magic is sympathetic so that the herbs represent the target, within kitchen witchery.
Use flowers when… when the spell concerns love and sex, or perhaps fertility and attraction, due to flowers being the reproductive parts of the plant.
Use fruit when when… working with children as a target, or with children practising. When you work with fertility and abundance spells.
Use wood and twigs when… when the spell is for protection or binding, for hardiness.
Burn herbs (recaning/incense) when… you wish to cleanse or banish, or invoke an atmosphere - that being, for divination using herbs that are said to open up your perceptions, when banishing, burning acrid or pungent herbs.
Use oil infusions when… you wish to anoint something, when you wish to mark something permanently.
Use floral waters (rose water etc) when… dealing with spirits and gods, for glamour as it has a long history of being used to beautify.
Crystals:
Use metals (haematite, copper, ores etc..) when… you work in protection, when you do energy work due to the conductive properties of metal.
Use shell, pearl, coral and such when… you work in sea magic, when you work within emotional magic due to the element of water.
Use points when… you wish to direct magic to a target.
Use tumble stones when… you wish the magic to be gentle or manifest at a certain place on the body on a target.
Use geodes when… you work in protection, when you work with glamour aimed to obscure and hide.
Knot magic:
Use cotton when… it is convenient.
Use silk when… doing spells that benefit the target.
Use ribbons when… love spells and wealth spells, as well as confidence and beauty spells. Spells to ensure victory.
Use rope when… doing spells that aim to hurt or weaken the target, binding especially.
Poppets:
Use cloth when… the spell aims to benefit who the poppet represents, use particular care when sewing or cutting, choose colours that are appropriate to them.
Use wax when… you wish to manipulate the target.
Use clay when… wish to create fetches or servitors, when you wish to create permanency.
Use twigs when… you wish to bury or throw the poppet out, when you want the poppet to be easily destroyed by breaking or setting on fire.
Sigils:
Use an alphabet grid or circle when… you wish the sigil to be more random and less attached to you.
Combine the shapes of letters from a sentence… when your sigil is very specific and a short term goal.
Use your own personal symbols when… you want the magic to be connected to you, when it is personal.
This year will be a very pink halloween ~
As an ADHD witch, I would really like to see more inclusive content in the witchcraft tag.
I genuinely can't read more than half of the stuff that pops up on my dash because it's a book with little to no breaks and absolutely no formatting.
I rarely see pictures with descriptions. And a lot of the spells/rituals/etc. I see are very much targeted towards able bodied neurotypical people.
Kind of tempted to start a submission-based disabled witch blog... 🤔

Stop looking for/buying “Tarot bags” and similar things and start looking at DICE BAGS at your D&D/Tabletop game store. Seriously. The medium-large sizes fit a tarot deck nicely, and the smaller ones can be used for runes and other things. They are just as high quality bags, still plenty of colors and designs. And they’re WAY CHEAPER.
A handy resource guide of 100+ witches from across history, literature, mythology, and pop culture. Not all of these women would have identified as such, but many were persecuted and marginalized in the name thereof. This is not complete, nor comprehensive. I will be adding to it as I continue the project, as there are many, many witches I have yet to include.

This list stems from my original project that I did for the 100 days before Halloween 2018. The nature of the project I discuss in my 1st post, which happened to be The Witch of Endor. I will be adding dozens other witches I did not get to in the initial 100 over time, and plan on producing a second series for male witches. Stay Tuned!
