Anyway, the pallette here was tough mainly because I had to adjust a lot of Kunikida's colors since Bones decided to make them the most horrible shade of greenish yellow....

Haven't been able to get these words out of my head. The fact they are the last thing he says. At first, I was just like "Okay, that's a very Kunikida thing to say" but then I put them into context of what just happened.

He'd been impaled and was desperately trying to use his last moments to allow Tanazaki time to escape. He knew he wasn't living after this, so as per his ideals he was going to fight until his last breath to save another life. If he can die in-service of helping someone else survive, that's enough for Kunikida.

And then he hears Atsushi shout his name. Atsushi ran up from behind Amenogozen, Kunikida probably saw him coming as well. He gripped the sword in his chest with the last of his strength to aid Atsushi in whatever way he could.

And Atsushi chose to save Tanizaki. The very thing he'd been trying to do just seconds before.

That why I think he'd smiling here, that's why I think he says his ideals will live on. Not in some abstract way, but in a direct reference to Atsushi, because he was Atsushi's mentor too. From day one, Atsushi has been seeking guidance from Kunikida, even when he didn't know how to give it.

One of the first pieces of advice Kunikida gives Atsushi is to "start thinking what you can do."

And it has been something he's been trying to figure out ever since. What can he do to help those who need it? To be worthy of living?

Both Atsushi and Kunikida want to save people. Both of them have been struggling on how to achieve that this whole time. Saving people isn't just a single action to Kunikida, it's sacrifice, it's taking on a burden, it's knowing you're tied to this person afterwards.

It's knowing you can't always save everyone no matter how much you want to. It's prioritizing saving who can and living with that.

Kunikida knew he couldn't be saved, but he hoped Tanizaki could. When Atsushi chose to leave him and save Tanizaki he following in Kunikida's footsteps.

His ideals will live on, in Atsushi.

they act exactly the same as they usually do, the only thing that changes is that kunikida comes to work an hour late and dazai comes in early. neither of them acknowledge it whatsoever and if anyone asks they just act like they have no idea what they’re talking abt. everyone is deeply unsettled, dazai’s need to mess w ppl is satiated without him having pissed anyone off and kunikida was tricked into taking an hour off from work, it’s perfect

I wanna point out something, Katai probably never had an entrance exam, whether Kunikida did or not is still up for debate, but the real fascinating thing is, at 20 Fukuzawa let Kunikdia handle the first (that we know of) entrance exam.

I have my own theories about how old Kuni was when he joined the ada but that's for another date.

Point is, Dazai's entrance exam could have been given to anybody elese, Yosano and Ranpo were at the ada for longer, and Fukuzawa himself didn't handle it. Kunikida must have risen through the ranks fast, especially at a young age. I'm really curios now on his backstory!

I love the concept of Yosano and Kunikida studying together while working at the Agency. Like Yosano’s in med school and it’s before Kunikida dropped out of college.

I feel they were those students who were like yeah there’s an international incident and the city’s on fire.

But my paper is due so like every A03 writer I must preserver.

Kunikida writing his lecturer an email like my most sincere apologises I am afraid I will be late for our next session I almost blew up the other day and my doctor is refusing to let me go right now.

And Yosano’s writing a similar email like I’ll be there soon just dealing with this idiot who tried to bomb himself and is refusing bed rest.

Somehow all their assignments are turned in on time though.

As much as I dislike characters getting revived after tragic/dramatic deaths, I'm so so happy that Adam got revived in Stormbringer, and Chuuya got to see that he got revived.

Chuuya's lost so much during his life. The sheep, the only people he called family. The flags, the only friends that considered him a kid and an equal. His humanity, slipped away at the hands of N. His free will, almost taken by Verlaine.

And Adam, despite being one of the least normal people he's associated with, somehow is the one whose relationship with Chuuya felt most normal and humanizing. But he gets taken away from him, too, and isn't that unsurprising? Chuuya is numb to it at this point: the grief, the longing for people he can never see again.

That's why Chuuya just... laughs at Adam in the end. It wasn't about the android joke, never was. It's that finally, one person he cares about is back, is here, with him. One person he hasn't forever lost without saying goodbye.

It's immensely relieving, and you know what? I wouldn't have been surprised if Chuuya's laughs slowly turned into sobs, the moment all of this dawned on him...
