remember when 2011 had to censor a heart and there was apparently no better option so they made it look like… That
i can’t believe leorio fucking yells at gotoh over the phone using keigo (honorific language, v formal, often used for like…subordinate/superior relationships. not necessarily out of place for this context, if it weren’t for…the yelling lmao)
also worth noting that when gon had the same kind of conversation with gotoh, he used more formal language than usual (not keigo, but masu forms - he’s at about the age when japanese kids actually start learning keigo, i think) but only in the first call - he reverted to his usual speech pattern when he yelled at gotoh
Everyone still interprets the “you are light” scene….WRONG.
it is not “you are light” and you are my sun and my stars and my moon – it is, “Gon, you are too optimistic and sometimes I can’t see what I should…” aka: logic
In that scene, Killua is admitting to knowing that Gon is an optimistic fool…but negates his own rational side and stays positive with Gon. WHICH EITHER WAY YOU LOOK AT IT – WOULD HAVE ENDED BADLY. If Killua said, “no gon, give up on kite and your optimism of him being alive” … that clearly wouldn’t have ended well. And the other side of it was…EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. Gon’s optimism burning and crashing at his feat.
Gon had a lot of growing and learning to do…it’s unfortunate that it came at such a shitty cost, but it happened. And Killua, his best friend, was there every step of the way. Just as Gon had saved Killua in the beginning, Killua had saved Gon in the end.
character….DEVELOPMENT. Friendship….DEVELOPMENT.
Mountain Boy
To those who think Silva isn't manipulating Killua with the blood pact...
.... he actually got secretly mad when Killua brought it up.
"If I ignore a friend I have the ability to help, wouldn't I be betraying him?"
In which way did the 2011 anime screwed Gon and Killua characteristics?? I didn't read the manga so this got me rly curious, i thought that the anime followed the manga pretty strictly ( aside from the Kite thing )
No worries, anon, I gotchu!
What I feel 2011 did was take scenes out of the manga but changed Gon & Killua’s personalities (while also leaving out v. important scenes in the beginning such as Gon meeting Kite, and Ging not actually abandoning Gon). Gon is portrayed more “innocent and kind” in the anime vs. being mouthy, sassy and a bit more introverted like he is in the manga. A great example of this is:
And! Gon was 1000% about Killua (2011, again, left out a bunch of scenes where Gon insistently worried over him):
(This is only a few that I had saved on my desktop.)
I also do not like how they changed Mito to fit the more “motherly” role when she lied, drank and tried manipulating Gon in the very first chapter. (more here) And how she took Gon away from Ging and lead Gon to believe he was abandoned when she’d actually fought Ging in court for custody.
Then there’s Killua–who is kind-hearted, sassy, talkative and more outgoing than 2011 portrayed him as. It’s almost like they manipulated the characters to fit the “kind kid befriends the sad, white-haired loner” stereotype when Togashi is literally the destroyer of all anime stereotypes. They also took out a lot of scenes/dialogue to Gon and Killua’s friendship whereas ‘99 kept them all but added hella filler (and even though Killua is a bit more “darker” in ‘99, i think they stayed v. much IC).
If interested, you can read @lyraklaude‘s meta on Killua possibly being an extrovert vs. introvert here. (I v. much agree with this.) I also have a bunch of manga!killua caps floating around here somewhere–i’ll try to find them and then reblog with links!
