“Yeah, sorry Mina.” A nervous chuckle leaves your throat as you press the phone to your ear. Your friend had finally calmed down, so you had to call your other friend to tell her she could enjoy the rest of her night. “I’m glad you guys hadn’t left yet, otherwise I’d feel terrible.”

After exchanging a few more words and telling her to have a goodnight, you end the call and shove the phone into your back pocket. Now you had to deal with the mess Bakugou had made trying to make it to your front door. He’d thrown himself to his feet the second your story ended and it registered to him that you’d been disrespected by a man who’d cried to him just days ago about you.

“I’ll clean it, don’t worry about it.” You noticed the way his red eyes couldn’t meet yours and the stiffness in his shoulders as you began to clean the spilled candy he’d knocked from your table. “I can’t believe you waste time on asshats like that.”

“How was your date?” He’d always disapproved of the men you had in your life, so changing the subject was the only way out of another you can do better speech. “I didn’t get any SOS texts so I assume it went well enough.”

The tiny candies are tossed into the trash while Bakugou ignores your question. He didn’t want to talk about the girl he couldn’t remember the name of or the less than worth it date he’d taken her on. You’d just scold him for being picky and tell him he’d die alone at this rate, and with the weight in his chest every time you texted him- he’d started to believe it himself.

“Kats, I’m talking to you.” Your best friend was notoriously known for being an asshole, but he never ignored your questions, he was usually over the moon to tell you every detail of his dates- including the ones you could live without ever knowing. “Are you seriously mad I wouldn’t let you ruin your career over a guy I didn’t even like that much?”

“I’m pissed.” He answers, straightening your coffee table. Returning to the spot he’d previously been sat in on your couch, he finally meets your hardened gaze and rolls his eyes. “The guys a shitty fuckin side kick, and he’s out here sleeping with other women?”

“It’s fine.” Being friends with Katsuki Bakugou had always been troublesome. He was too angry for his own good, and you hated how he let such small things set him off. You didn’t care if it was true, and the guy had slept with someone else, it was over and you wouldn’t miss him. “You know I’m okay, right?”

“Not the point, kid.” The stupid nickname he’d always used when things got tense, kid. An insult he’d called you when you were students and you struggled to keep up with his ever growing strength. “You’re not some random hookup, you shouldn’t keep letting bottom barrel no body’s treat you like one.”

“That’s what I wanted though, he wanted to date and I’m the one who said no.” Your career was important to you, so dating wasn’t something you particularly cared about. Clearly, your best friend didn’t care, rolling his eyes again as you plop beside him and throw your legs into his lap. “If wed been dating maybe I’d be upset, but we weren’t so it is what it is.”

Comfortable silence replaces the thick tension the room had been filled with just minutes ago. Something about the way his fingertips brushed lazily across your bare legs made you forget why you’d even been arguing with him in the first place. The world might know him as the explosive hero with zero people skills, but behind closed doors, he was truly one of the softest kindest people you’d ever met. Sure, it took years of friendship and many many arguments to find that heavily guarded part of him burried under the thicker less bearable layers of his personality- but once you did, he never hid it from you again.

“I’m crashing here tonight, I’ll shower in the morning.” His voice sounded distant, like he’d been a thousand miles away as he stared blankly out the window beside him. You’d learned he zoned out far too often and his mind just spoke itself. “Since someone had to fight me for 30 minutes and now I don’t have time.”

“Uh huh, blame me.” You weren’t usually one to drop an argument, especially one you knew you’d when. But you were enjoying the soft glide of his fingers running up and down your shin to even try to argue. “I have to be out by 6. The train leaves at 6:10, so try not to be an ass in the morning.”

You preferred public transport, so waking up early was just a part of your routine now. Your poor car had hardly driven a mile in months, sitting sadly in the car park. Driving was for people with no patience, and you had plenty.

“I’ll take you to work on my way in, so I can buy you coffee as an I’m sorry.” And so he could spend a few extra minutes with you, he tells himself silently. “I could pop in and scare your students into behaving.”

“No. they already assume you’re my husband bevause you’re there so often.” It was true. Your students had asked you a thousand times if the two of you lived together, if Dynamite was a good husband, and all the things that made you laugh uncomfortablly at 7 in the morning. “Plus, you know if Mr. Aizawa sees you again he’ll kick your ass. I know you miss your bestie all day- but please try to control yourself.”

“Not possible. I’ve been tryin to control myself- but yaknow, someone needs pants or a coffee or a damn charger everyday.” He smirks, blocking your foot from nudging him in faux annoyance. “Just because I’m a Hero doesn’t mean you can keep usin me like this.”

“Yeah? How do you suggest I use you then Dynamite?” Your stupid question had left your mouth before you even realized how it sounded, causing your face to burn and your feet to retract from his lap to allow you to burry your face in your knees. “Fuckin hell, ignore that- I didn’t mean for that to sound so suggestive.”

“Nah, I get it. You’re totally into me.”

i'm sorry but hawks being able to sense and control every individual feather is absolutely insane to me. like that's some ao3-headcanon-fanon ass shit. but it isn't. it's canon.

just!!

him giving you a feather to keep, and at first you don't know why. but then it dawns on you. oh. he wants to keep an eye on you at all times. from then on, you keep it with you, always. sometimes as a hair charm, sometimes tucked away in your purse. 

the feather moves occasionally, or gets sharper when you're stressed/anxious (who needs pepper spray anyway? well, certainly not you!! because you have a piece of your pro hero boyfriend to stab people with).

you like kissing the feather, or caressing it, just to fuck with him - double the fun if he's on live tv giving an interview. 

hawks loves it when you run your fingers through his wings. he'll melt right under your touch and stretch like a cat.

you help him with upkeep, straightening askew feathers and removing damaged ones.

whenever hawks' wings take a lot of damage and he comes home with little stubs on his back, you take extra good care of them. He says it helps them regrow faster. you haven't been able to confirm or refute this (it's not like it matters. you won't stop doing it either way).

it's always so fascinating and heartbreaking when a character in a story is simultaneously idolized and abused. a chosen prophet destined for martyrdom. a child prodigy forced to grow up too fast. a powerful warrior raised as nothing but a weapon. there's just something so uniquely messed up about singing someone's praises whilst destroying them.

Ooh that post you made abt reader telling Kiri about her assault in more depth than she does Bakugo is so interesting! I'm so curious about what her motivations would be if she did do so.

I can imagine it being for a couple of reasons, my favorite being that it's almost a way for her to get back at redacted without having to directly face him. Like she doesn't love Kiri like she does Bakugo, so she doesn't care about hurting his feelings or upsetting him by unloading her trauma on him. She can see Kiri as a direct connection to redacted. It would hurt Kiri more than it would Bakugo to hear about the horrible things this man he's revered and based his whole hero persona off of has done. And hurting people (especially someone you view as an extension of your abuser) with all of the unresolved and unhealed trauma she has probably feels really good, as immature as that sounds.

At least it feels good in the moment. Until she has to hear from Bakugo how torn up Kirishima is about it. And until she has to see how hurt Bakugo is by the fact that she confided in his friend before him

keigo's real laugh is nothing, if not music.

there's a front keigo uses when it comes to other people—a barrier he wasn't even aware existed. his faux laugh was easygoing. it was short, and it was charming. he used it whenever he was talking to the higher ups or his colleagues. hell, he used it when he spoke to anyone. he's never been able to share the intimacy of a real laugh with another person before.

secretly, he was envious of those strangers he'd hear every once in a while. whether it was on patrol, or if he was just strolling into a coffee shop—ordinary citizens, people, humans, we're always laughing around him.

it could be huffs of air, odd squeaks or giggles—people with heaving chests, people chuckling, people snorting, people wheezing—but keigo knew a real laugh when he heard one.

which was odd, because he hadn't heard his own real laugh until you.

you're tucked into keigo's side, half awake and half asleep as you stumble forward. your eyes are barely open—and you're so drunk that keigo can already imagine the headache his poor baby is going to have tommorrow morning

"c'mon songbird, up up up."

he takes off your clothes and makeup, changing you quickly into your nightgown as you talk. you babble on about anything and everything that comes to your mind as he works—keigo kneels in front of you, smiling softly as he slowly unravels your dress and takes off your silvery shiny heels—he pulls on your nightdress, and grabs your favorite fluffy socks before tugging them up and over your feet

"kei baby," you whisper, and he glances up at you as he finishes taking off the last bit of your jewelery. he places your earrings into the little gold box you have on his desk as his warm hands wrap around your waist. he hums quietly as you suddenly place your palms flat on his chest, shoving him

he falls onto the bed with a soft oof! before sending you a confused smile

"shh...let me think, kei."

keigo folds his legs, amusement shining bright in his eyes as he watches you. your hair falls from its updo in wisps, framing your face as you stand in deep thought near the edge of your shared bed—hand on your jaw as you tilt your head

your smirk forms slowly. it's small, sly, silly and so drunk as you suddenly kneel onto the bed. you crawl towards keigo and fasten your knees on both sides of his hips—straddling him as he blinks up in surprise, not expecting your warm mouth to begin trailing kisses up his neck

sexy, is all keigo can think as a soft sigh escapes his lips. he's just about to kiss you back—when suddenly, you speak up.

"are you my appendix? because i have this funny feeling riiiight here that makes me feel like i should take you out." you whisper seductively, gliding his palm towards your tummy and under your nightgown

keigo blinks once. twice. before he stutters with his response. he tries to form even just one word—but he can't. and suddenly, he's falling apart—he's laughing so hard that he can't fucking breathe.

you blink in response, tilting your head adorably in confusion. you thought that was a good pick up line! but keigo's face is flushed for an entirely different reason other than being flustered, and his lips are stretched into a toothy grin. you're concerned for the lack of oxygen in his lungs when he's suddenly wheezing, and god, his eyes are shining with tears.

"oh-oh baby, i fucking love you."

you're slapping his arm, whining on about how he ruined the moment. but your tone—your very serious face while uttering the absolute worst pick up line keigo has ever heard has him struggling to breathe in his fits of laughter

but you can't even try to be mad. because keigo's eyes are crinkling with a rare show of genuine joy, and his hands are pressing you to his chest, and this laugh is so authentic—it bubbles all the way from his belly, so silly and so full of emotion that you can't help but giggle along with him

"it was good, right? are you feeling—heh, turned on?"

keigo's smile is breath taking. no wonder he's on so many magazine covers every month. finally—he leans forward, pressing his warm mouth against yours in a soft kiss as he cradles your face with both of his palms

"yeah, baby. never felt more hot and bothered... you know, 'm gonna marry you one of these days." he murmurs against your lips as you squirm in his lap

"nuh uh. who said i'll say yes?"

he laughs again. it's softer this time, and he maneuvers you carefully back into bed. you look like an angry kitten when you glare at him, but he only grins in response as he tucks you in—tugging the soft comforter up and over your body before getting into bed himself. he pulls you on top of him, gliding his hand up the back of your thigh all the way up until he's at the base of your spine

"you make me very happy, ya'know that songbird?"

you hum in reply, eyes already drooping close as your hold on keigo tightens just the slightest bit. his wings naturally fold to wrap around you—cocooning you in his hold.

he can see you're too tired to respond, your eyes are already slipping close when he presses a kiss onto your forehead

he admires you quietly, thanking the cosmos for allowing him to have this one good thing in life. you're drooling all over his shirt, and keigo wouldn't ever wish to have someone else laying beside him at night.
