SCHOOL OF ROCK 2003 | dir. Richard Linklater
Happy birthday Larry Linville (1939 - 2000), M*A*S*H’s Major Frank Burns
thank you for the tag, @andrandiriel ! it's so nice to see people thinking of me :)
what's the origin of your blog title?
i don't actually have some kind of fun or cool story for why i picked 'stxrmcloud' as my blog name. back when i created it, that was just my go to for almost everything, it was just something i really liked.
otp(s) + shipname(s):
ooh i have so many. anything with Charles Winchester, or probably holyhawk (Mulcahy/Hawkeye) and perhaps HolyToledo (Mulcahy/Klinger). ive gotten really into RadarHawk as well, though it's not a huge otp of mine. im also really big into ocxcanon, so anything related to that is a huge otp. (ill gladly ramble about my ocs if you ask)
favorite color:
green :)
song stuck in your head:
i have so many playing on constant loop in my head, it's insane. mostly it's Ma Meilleure Ennemie or perhaps Porque te vas. i really like songs in other languages. meant to be by bbno$ is another.. Guys and Dolls from the musical of the same name.
weirdest habit/trait:
i don't know if i have any weird habits. i constantly sit on the ground when there's a chair and if im in a chair, it's usually in an odd position.
hobbies:
writing, drawing.. namely creating in any fashion
if you could have any job you wish, what would it be?
same as above, anything that allows me to create or have some form of creative outlet.
something you're good at:
hmmm... perhaps collecting? i love little trinkets, omg.
something you hate:
asshole people, people who love to stir up drama just for the fun of it. PMO so much
something you collect:
trinkets. small little things, anything my friends give me that they say was because they were thinking of me.
something you forget:
that i have people who care, that i have people who actually like that i exist and am around
what's your love language?
gift giving, physical touch.. quality time is nice too, i like being around who i love.
favorite movie/show:
im lousy with favorites.. MASH, Final Space.. Ocean's 11 is a favorite movie of mine. Atlantis, Treasure Planet, Anastasia. Big Hero 6, the movie and the series.
favorite food:
i really like pizza :)
favorite animal:
ferrets! :3
what were you like as a child:
quiet, introverted, i didn't talk to people i didn't know. i was more animated around people i knew and liked.
favorite subject at school:
ELA, English
least favorite subject:
math and the occasional science
what's your best character trait?
i don't know if i have a best character trait. i like to think im pretty funny when i try. though my jokes mostly consist of 'thats what she said' and witty comebacks
what's your worst character trait?
probably how self-deprecating i am. im working on it to try and get better, though i can't help but revert back to it from time to time.
if you could change any detail of your life right now, what would it be?
id probably change the fact that i don't know what i want to do with my life when i graduate. if i could change it to know what i want to do, then that would be a lot better.
if you could travel in time, who would you like to meet?
David Ogden Stiers. he was in my childhood growing up and i didn't realize he was in so many disney movies until after i saw him in MASH. i want to be able to meet with him and tell him how much i love his acting, how much i love Charles and how he's played.
i cant believe it took me this long, ough.. but ill tag @seepweed @nepspire @pinnballss @dr-wurm @armory11 and anyone else who wants to participate in this!
M*A*S*H by Hanna Barbera (1975)
Share your story of how you started watching M*A*S*H or your fondest memories with it. I‘ll go first.
One summer, my parents took me on a trip to stay at a farm. They had horses I could ride and cows I could help milk, along with adorable baby cows and rabbits. Every evening I walked over to the stalls and helped take care of the cows.
Once I came back I took a shower, sat down on the couch, my Dad heated up some soup and we watched M*A*S*H until I had to go to bed.
How about you?
rb to give your mutuals a silly little paper valentine card and a red heart shaped lollipop 💖
As I lay in bed sick and dream of bred I'm not allowed to make cause I might cough on it, today on MASH quotes that hit me in feels:
This is from Charles Emerson Winchester III
Charles joined early in season six, replacing Major Burns, who was a stuck up, all American asshole. Major Burns served as a reoccurring "antagonist" or target for the shows pranks, and to some degree so did Charles. Unlike Burns, however, Charles proved himself to not only be a competent surgeon but to hold real character
There are a lot of things he's said which blend the line between heartwarming and saddening, when he is not busy being an elite snob, but the one that's really striking me into the feels is:
---Charles Emerson Winchester III, from an episode I could not find the name of in my quick search
Any any I'm gonna rewatch MASH
Just off my most recent M*A*S*H watch through, and as the Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen anniversary was not too long ago, I wanted to do my own little tribute.
Charles and Father Mulcahy are character who are written very differently, but both rely on music (in their own ways) to keep their sanity throughout the war. And in the end, they both lose their connection to it in different ways. After Charles works with the Korean POW musicians on the Mozart quintet (pictured), and they are killed, the safety of his connection to music is shattered, and all he can think about when listening is the violence and bloodshed. This is explicitly addressed in the finale.
However, Father Mulcahy’s loss is not. Yes, they address his going deaf after the explosion, but throughout the entire show he is shown playing the piano, singing, writing war songs. His connection to music is much less emphasized, but it persists through the entire series, and although he may not be a technical prodigy, it brings him joy. And then he loses it, along with the ability to take confessions, and a number of other facets of his job and life that gave him meaning and brought him comfort. Earlier in the show, during a particularly difficult moment, he is consoled by his colleagues performing Dona Nobis Pacem (also pictured). After he loses his hearing, he begins to question God. “Are you Deaf too?” I think this shaken faith and may have festered into an anger that contributed to his problems after the war (he was shown struggling in AfterMASH).
Anyways! Enjoy my angst fest (also I am VERY open to requests, especially for this show rn)
