“DUELISTS can sense each other”……
…………..
In Gundam we call them “NewTypes” BABY~!!!!
Episode 54, part 2, further plot!
Yami’s found out that he’s an Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh and Kaiba’s successfully tested his Duel Disk.
But Yami wants to keep secrets from Yugi…
WHY?
… I regret asking. T_____T
They must have a lot of control over what the other “hears”, if Yugi is able to surprise him with the “date” and Yami can keep this big of a secret!
(Also HOW IS HE SO BEAUTIFUL?!)
And now this is just needlessly confusing! I take it this is just Yami thinking about Yugi and therefore imagining him there, as characters sometimes do, and their imagination-people are semi-transparent. But it’s functionally indistinguishable from when Yugi actually manifests in ghost-form! But if it was really Yugi, he’d be able to hear Yami talking about the slab, so it can’t be.
Yami cuts himself off with a sudden “something’s up!” vibe.
“What’s with the scary little pout?”
Yami brushes it off, and then they’re distracted anyway, because an old friend shows up!
THEIR FACES.
Mai is all (whispering) “omfg a date!” and Anzu is like “omfg bitch it is not” and Yami is like…
#thisismysmalltalkface
Mai is surprised Yami hasn’t heard, she assumed he was here on purpose for the same reason as she is; there’s rumours of a big tournament about to be announced, with a cryptic messaged leaked on the internet along with this date, time and place.
… I assume this was Ishizu, since Kaiba only found out about the stone, like, yesterday or the day before. It could be either of them, because they’re both total drama nerds with a flair for ridiculous poetry, but Kaiba isn’t likely to hinge his tournament announcement on anything to do with the ~past~. So if it was Ishizu, it’s good to see she and Marik both have the same Ishtar mysterious drama instincts.
So Mai says Yami must be able to “feel it by now” and Yami says yes, this was what was causing his scary pout face from earlier:
Duelists can SENSE each other. Like the fucking card game Force or some shit. What even is this show seriously.
Yami and Mai look like the cool ones in this shot, while Anzu looks around trying to figure out what the hell they’re on about, but on the other hand, Yami and Mai are claiming to be able to ~sense~ the presence of people who enjoy trading card games and Anzu is the one being like “that is totally not a thing you dorks” so judge for yourself.
Yami and Mai are looking real well, tho. #regalshipping #theywouldhavesuchbeautifulchildren
And then this asshole shows up.
On literally all of the screens!
This moment is actually in the opening credits for this season and it makes me really giddy every time I watch it; Yami surrounded by tall buildings and the screens flickering one by one to show a smirking Kaiba.
It’s slightly less fun in the actual show because there’s less peppy music and it’s more like a real announcement and less like some crazy AU where Kaiba rules the city and Yami is a lone outlaw/hero who stands up to him and gets captured and they fall in love…
Ahem.
Kaiba outlines the two rules for entry into Battle City; you have to have a “rare card” (I have to presume cards have an actual rareness ranking) and you have to have a DUEL DISK. He also says the tournament will be played with “Battle City rules” (I have to presume these rules are made available elsewhere cause he doesn’t even give the highlights here) and the loser in each duel gets the rarest card of the winner. Not the best card, just the rarest one.
… No. That’s not true. Maybe it’s a subtitling error. The final champion will get a lot of rare cards, but, say if Yami loses to Kaiba in the final match, as Kaiba obvious wants to happen. He only has to give him Slifer (puppet-dude’s rarest card going in), he doesn’t have to give him Red Eyes (Jou’s rarest card) or even Dark Magician (his own rarest card).
And then KAIBA ACTUALLY SHOWS UP IN A HELICOPTER OMG HE IS SUCH A DRAMA KING.
I would take it as a big prideshipping moment that he immediately picks Yami out of the crowd and focuses on him, but let’s face it, that hair would get anyone noticed first.
Also, good thing Yami happened to be walking past! I mean, he did show up, but not on purpose! Poor Kaiba would have been so fucking annoyed!
(Can you imagine him restaging the whole announcement two hours later at the Game Shop, complete with floodlights and helicopters. DUEL ME YUGI.)
Mmmmmmmmmm.
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.
Look at them! They’re so intensely focused on each other!
… So, quick question. Where the fuck is the camera that’s recording the live footage of Kaiba? It must be on one of those buildings. That helicopter has to hover really still in exactly the right place and that camera must have a hell of a zoom function. HOW MUCH MONEY DOES HE SPEND ON THIS?!
And meanwhile…
Marik hears about the tournament in his … weird purple cloud room … with hovering blue flame light fixtures … and beautiful sturdy wood furniture. What is even happening?
The rare hunters call him “Marik-sama” which is translated in the subtitles to “Master Marik” even though all the other honorific suffixes have been left as-is in the subtitles, including the duel scientists calling Kaiba “Seto-sama” earlier in this very episode!
… What? Domino City was not already your target?! You’d already figured out Mr Nameless Pharaoh was probably living in Yugi Mutou’s head! You should already have booked your … boat trip, I guess, to Domino!
But he is really pretty. And, like, 16. Probably he wouldn’t be in charge of a global consortium of card thieves at all if he didn’t have a mind-control stick!
God, they're so...
That "You Will" tho. That's Bruce Wayne's son right there
Some Birdflash panels ('cause they're a married couple and you can't change my mind)
Well, he's right but Wally, your heterosexuality has gone away (it's being away since he met Dick if we're honest)
1. Dick thinks Wally knows about his crush but he doesn't 'cause his BLIND (please someone tell this boy that his bestie is in love with him)
2. Is that a Taylor Swift reference, Dick?
If Death and Puss fuse together
Yo so I love your ygo cat au! But I'm wondering do you have a season 0!YamiYugi for your cat au?
a lot of people ask why I don’t have a yami yugi cat and that’s because through a lot of arguing and timey-wimey shenanigans, I’m convinced he and pharaoh atem are the same person/identity, just different bodies.
however, that said, season 0 yami yugi on the other hand….
he’s a brand all his own.
My god these just makes me love Kazuki even more
I LOVE YOU KAZUKI TAKAHASHI~~!!!!!!
It’s not difficult to find the roots of Seto Kaiba’s cold and brutal ideology, but Atem acts as both an ally and a foil to Seto with a firm belief in the power of unity. Why does he stand on that belief so proudly? It’s said that the power of the Millennium Puzzle is unity. But more than that, what does Atem actually have? He doesn’t have an identity or a home. What he does have are bonds and people. Seto tells Atem that the only thing you can rely on is yourself, but Atem doesn’t have a full sense of self for most of the story. And by default, he must rely on Yugi to exist. Yugi’s warmth and friendships might be a kind of model for Atem in how he relates to the world, while Seto’s stunted sociality and his thirst for competition are familiar and close to Atem, and so Atem becomes a bridge between Yugi’s ideology and Seto’s ideology. And that’s why he has such a deep connection with these two characters.
I love to see a movie~
So..I was playing Duel Links and this mission came up, making me realize that in order to bring Yami Yugi into this world, you’ll have to Defeat him as Kaiba (at highest lvl ) and summon a Blue Eyes on the way…
… Why do I suddenly think about Transcend Game?!! OWO
Did Duel Links just canonized that Kaiba and Blue Eyes will be the ones to bring Yami back?!!
That smirk and those eyes man...
I’ve heard a few different theories about who or what Clint’s character “The Stranger” is, from vengeful ghost to the Angel of death to the actual Devil. Only thing that can be agreed on is that The Stranger is not human. (Personally I like the Devil theory) This movie is brutal and freaky, but there’s just something about this amoral agent of destruction and chaos tearing apart a town full of bad guys. (And seriously, Clint’s smirk. I swear that man can get away with anything because of that smirk)
My man’s wearing 2 necklaces now.
Oh Atem, The Jewel King~
Still practising drawing Yu-Gi-Oh! again, and of course, whilst I’ve been out of the fandom, Kazuki Takahashi has switched up his technique and I cry whenever I look at it because it. is. STUNNING.
Thanks for being patient with me whilst I deal with this reoccuring love for these gorgeous, amazing characters, whom I miss every damn day.
Still makes me swoon everytime XD
AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH
I COULDNT AGREE MORE ON 6.
Yami’s so peaceful there,it’s so great. He’s clearly having fun and I love it.I mean, we always see duels involving kidnaps and threats but for the first time ever,he’s happy~
God bless Kazuki Takahashi. There’s no one like you in the whole world
I present to you: my observations regarding Atem and Yugi's relationship, with a few head cannons mixed in. I intend to add to this as I please.
Whenever the two of them are conversing in Yugi's mind or next to each other for whatever reason in the anime, Atem's body is almost always facing Yugi's. Even when his head is turned forwards, Yugi is for the most part always in his peripheral vision. The main exceptions to these are when Atem's already facing Yugi or when he knows he's safe.
I have a head cannon that at the end of the day, the pair discuss what happened over the course of that day. Like if Yugi spent a lot of time studying for a test, Yami would reassure him that he would pass. Or if they met a little fan, they would talk about how cute the child was or something along those margins.
When Atem duels, we don't see a lot of Yugi. He shows up in the more important duels, but for the most part he lets Yami do his thing. On the contrary, when Yugi duels Yami is by his side the entire time. Encouraging him, giving compliments on his better plays, occasionally offering advice. During the final duel, Yami also complimented Yugi on his best plays.
Yami is really good at giving compliments in general. Another of my head cannons is that Yami learned this behavior to compensate for Yugi's lack of self-esteem, and it eventually leaked over into the rest of his shared life.
Yugi really stepped into his bravery and courage when he was faced with helping Yami. It was one of the first times he faced something without the other him, but he stepped into the role without question and dueled Yami Bakura with determination.
During the final duel, we see a lot of Atem being surprised over Yugi's strength. It's the first time he directly sees just how strong his aibou really is. But, he also is a lot nicer to Yugi than in any of his other duels. Sure, the yelling is there, but the worst thing he says is "well done, but it's not good enough!" Or something along those lines. That's in comparison to most of his other duels, where he mildly taunts his opponent and often yells "you're wrong!"
Atem is used to fighting Yugi's battles. He always stepped up during duels and when Yugi was in danger. I have a head canon that this is why Atem was so surprised when Seto and Mahad and the other members of the council told him to stay back and let them fight.
Yugi doesn't really stand up for himself at all, at least not that I can remember. But, during the final duel, he does. He yells at kaiba for leaving before the duel was over. Atem told Yugi that he was proud of him for standing up for himself. I don't know why I find that so cute, but I do.
Another thing from the final duel: I honestly love how Yami could tell what Yugi was thinking, even though they weren't sharing a body at that point in time. He noticed that Yugi was doubting himself, and gave his aibou a pep talk. And then Atem proceeded to look very pleased that his pep talk worked.
And now, my stuff from dark side of dimensions: the one time Yugi said he always misses Atem has to be on here, it wouldn't be a proper list without it.
During that movie, I also noticed that Yugi learned a lot more from Atem than just bravery and self-love. He incorporated a lot of his dueling strategies in his duels, and the way he interacted with other characters (but mostly kaiba) was a lot like Atem.
And then, you know, Atem showing up just when Yugi passes out. Some might argue that this is just Atem showing up when he's needed, but I'm choosing to focus on the fact that he was a no-show until Yugi was physically hurt.
Notice how distraught Yami is whenever he thinks Yugi is gone forever? First in their duel against Pegasus, and then after Yugi's soul is taken by the orichalcos. When Yugi's other Friends get hurt, Atem is obviously upset, but he can still keep it together. He stays calm and level-headed, and then wins the next duel to save the person in danger. But when Yugi disappears, Yami panics and makes rather rash and hurried moves. He still manages to win, because plot armor, but you can tell that it wasn't his A game. He also gets angry and takes it out on different people, such as weeble.
Atem is also the only Yami who genuinely cares about his host. As #13 states, he gets upset when Yugi is gone, whereas all the other Yamis would be overjoyed to get rid of their host. That one is kind of obvious, but I left it out at the beginning so I'm putting here.
This image right here. The fact that Yami is standing in front of Yugi protectively.(it's kinda interesting that he laid him down face first into whatever their head is made of, like Téa at least held him up, but shhhhhh)
16. From what I remember, Yami doubts himself (thinking he isn't worth it, tearing himself down) twice in the series(tell me if I missed anything though). During the seal of orichalcos business after Yugi's soul got taken away, and when Yugi was passed out or whatever happened to him during the duel against Pegasus. Notice a pattern here...?
17. I HAVEN'T DONE ATEM'S COPING MECHANISMS YET? WHAT KIND OF A FAN AM I??? *Deep breath* ok. Remember when Joey was hurt? It was the battle city arc(I forget what was ailing him...did he get locked in the shadow realm?). Yami punches the wall in rage and then decides to defeat Marik. But when Yugi is gone, Atem just loses it. He cries for the first and only time, he blames himself entirely (it was totally his fault though) and that whole "it's all my fault" causes him to lose hope. He didn't want to keep going until Joey knocks some sense into him. Literally. He mercilessly attacks weevil(not that he didn't deserve it) and we get a taste of that season zero Yami(but less gremlin like). He is a MESS. That got off topic fast....my point is that when it isn't Yugi in danger, Atem seeks revenge. When it IS Yugi in danger, Yami loses his mind and doesn't want to keep going and feels many intense emotions he's never felt before.
Oh my goshhh!!!!Yami looks so damn sexy as a dealer!!!I totally love this au~!
Man,I would sooooo love to write a fanfic about this.gambling animes has always been a thrill of mine!
Dealer wins.
