We All Know That The Nether Is Hot. I Mean, It's Basically A Stretched Out Volcano With An Ecosystem

We all know that the nether is hot. I mean, it's basically a stretched out volcano with an ecosystem inside.

So, that means the creatures that inhabit the nether are naturally cold. If that doesn't make sense upon first glance, allow me to use an example.

An artic fox. It can handle frigid temperatures in colder climates, but if you put it in Mexico, it's probably going to have a heat stroke.

Alternatively, take a fennec fox that lives in Northern Africa. They are used to hot deserts and can survive in them where the artic fox can not. However, if you pop that fennec fox in Northern Canada or Alaska, it will freeze to death.

This is because creatures evolve to feel "stable" in the climate they live in. Therefore, creatures in the nether are able to handle extreme amounts of heat.

So, when shadow knights go to the overworld, they feel cold to the touch. The intense heat of the nether keeping them stable is gone, and now they’re cold.

Being cold doesn't bother them. The same way that extreme heat doesn't bother them.

In my rewrite, I made my own shadow knight lore (one of my previous posts), so shadow knight's bodies are made of dark energy. Because of this, he heals incredibly fast. His body doesn't bleed or burn because it's just dark energy taken form. So when parts are cut off like an arm, it just turns to a dust-like material that Laurance absorbs to grow that arm back. (Fun detail, Laurance can control the length of his hair this way. He can make it really long in just a few seconds. Hell, he can make it 20 feet long if he wants, but that type of length would take away from the rest of his body, causing him to lose muscle mass and look really skinny.)

But back to the cold and hot thing. Laurance is essentially a lizard, his body temperature reflecting that of what's around him. Because of this, he feels cold with he happens to touch Aphmau or Garroth, and it worries them for a split second until they remember he isn’t human anymore. He can't produce his own body heat.

Back in the nether, shadow knights and other monstrous creatures will take lava bathes and just walk into fire. All creatures in the nether are made out of dark energy, so it doesn't hurt them. But lava bathes are a good way to get clean because the lava burns away anything on the shadow knights body. Plus, it just feels nice (think of a hot spring for humans).

This leads to Laurance occasionally sticking his hand into a campfire. His body is part of the nether, so he feels a longing for that place even though he hates it. But feeling the fire like this... it feels like home.

He tries not to do it, though, because it freaks Aphmau and Garroth out. Eventually, they accept the fact that it doesn't hurt Laurance and let him lead the way any time they have to face an enemy with fire attacks.

Aphmau will often put Laurance's hand on her face when she feels hot, he's not cold as ice (he only feels like that when they're in snowy regions), but he still feels cool and it's nice.

Also, when they are in snowy, cold locations. Laurance will wear Garroth's chainmail and lay in the campfire for a minute, then he'll let Aphmau (and sometimes Garroth) warm up by pressing themselves against the metal after it cools down a bit.
