Finally decided to try out my new sketchbook I got way back at Christmas so I drew the boxing eagle mascot for a WWII fighter squadron. Turned out pretty good, even if I did have some problems with the legs...
This is what I love about being a pilot, the beautiful views I get while flying along the river and being able to watch the sunset reflecting off the cliffs and the water.
Dear Tumblr, what the fuck?
Our WWII TBM Avenger torpedo bomber flying over while our Jeep fires blanks at the “bogey” from a .50 caliber. The “blanks” are a mixture of oxygen and propane being burned in rapid, short bursts to replicate how it would fire if active.
One item I don’t show off much in my collection, mostly due to the feelings against anything Confederate in the last year, is an unissued Southern Cross of Honor. The SCH was essentially the South’s version of the Medal of Honor (which originated in the Civil War). The SCH though was never actually awarded during the Civil War, instead the first was awarded in 1900 by the United Daughters of the Confederacy who created the award and was given to Southern veterans in recognition of loyal, honorable service to the South. I picked this one up at a flea market last summer for $7 and took it to a guy I know who said it’s worth around $250 as is. A named one will typically sell for around $300-$750 depending on who it was awarded to and what battles they participated in.
Got to meet one of the original code talkers. He was a very nice man.
The Navajo language was chosen to code U.S. military operations because it has no written form and is almost impossible for non-native speakers to learn. After the operation was declassified in 1968, the Japanese Chief of Intelligence admitted that though his army had been able to decipher many U.S. codes, they were never able to crack the Navajo code. Me again, if you could go to any fictional place, where would you go? Also, I'm going to make a tunblr account later today, so I don't have to stay anonymous
Oh, that's a tough one. Especially with a lot of fictional places being real (seeing all of Luna's papers teaches you things) so that's a hard one to answer. I'd have to say Florida. Everyone knows that place can't be real with all the news reports about there.
All of you talking about Tide Pods being the “forbidden fruit” but I think y’all forgot the forbidden chewing gum
Just to try and make my blog a little bit more lively, does anyone have any requests for stuff they want to see? More aviation posts or my military collection? Anything really?
Full shaded commission for @ask-swing-rhythm. Thanks so much!
