i’m so glad earth only has one moon, if there were more i’d have to pick a favorite and that sounds too emotionally taxing to even fathom
I ended up having a really interesting conversation with some people at the bus stop today. They were getting out of some sort of ‘clean and sober’ meeting and had starting saying how they were so bored because they didn’t have anything to do, and had to stay at home because all their old friends would pull them back. So I said something like, ‘So this is the time to do all the stuff your parents told you they didn’t have money/time for!’ “Whatcha mean?” “You know, like when you were five and you REALLY wanted to have that toy or do that thing and you were like, ‘Please mom please I gotta have this I gotta go do this’ and they went ‘Hell no you think I’m paying for that do you want to goddamn EAT?’ “ And this light went on in their eyes. The lady is going to go check thrift stores for an Easybake Oven and I told her about Wilton cake decorating classes. The dude is going to Griffith Park and ride horses, because, ‘I always wanted to be a cowboy, and you can’t drink when you’re on a horse ‘cause you’ll fucking die!’ Fuck it. This is what being an adult is. Sure it’s bills and work and relationships, but damn it, it’s also time to do the things you LIKE. I signed up for a free class/lecture on Water Gardens. I’m going. It’s time.

mutant mayhem was great but unfortunately it does contain flashing without a warning. if you’re planning on seeing it, the flashing starts in the scene where the turtles are in cynthia utrom’s lab and continues in the fight in superfly’s lair, i unfortunately don’t have timestamps though. feel free to share to spread the word for those who are planning on seeing the movie but may be harmed by flashing lights
anyway here is a summary of my panel with hiroaki kawakami, a japanese lawyer who legally represents many LGBT+ individuals and movements:
legally there is nothing protecting same sex marriage in japan, HOWEVER currently different lawsuits are making their way to the supreme court. while a lot of the supreme court officials are very conservative, because the japanese economy also relies on good relations with foreign countries they are receiving a lot of pressure from younger generations and those investors to find compromise
the sad thing is that transgender individuals (like the united states) are becoming a scapegoat from many political sectors and the recipient of a lot of political and digital harassment
HOWEVER. the general japanese public is in favor of LGBT+ rights/respect (70% of the country reported to be in support of the legalization and protection of gay marriage) and obviously the work of queer activist/organization groups has not gone unnoticed
currently one big issue faced by queer activist groups in japan is that they are not televised or reported on - the younger generation is communicating via social medias like tiktok and this has allowed for some shift in the narrative. especially as this allows national attention which (in the words of the speaker, not mine) japanese legislators and investors do care about
when i asked what it is we can do best for our friends in japan, he said that publicizing the lives and stories of LGBT+ individuals in japan, talking about the positive effects of protections for LGBT+ individuals would have on the country and express desire publicly for such a thing to happen, as well as general words of support/kinship - these things are what we can best do as those outside the country (according to him!)
its extremely heartwarming as well as a bit bittersweet that we are fighting similar battles in different countries, i hope that in the future we can all have good news to share with eachother
Anyway, daily reminder from a culturally isolated Romani person.
Gypsy does not mean wanderer.
It literally means ‘people from egypt’ or similar, as europeans believed Romani people were from Egypt. It has become known similar to nomad due to how our ancestors have been forced to be nomadic due to racism and ostracization, but it is a SLUR.
Romani people are STILL being forcibly sterilized.
Romani people are STILL being forced into ghettos.
Romani people are still facing violence and danger in countless European countries- and recently, I’ve seen the beginnings of the extremes in the United States.
Have a little fucking respect and DON’T USE A SLUR THAT’S BEEN USED FOR CENTURIES AGAINST US.
And for the love of whatever’s up there, ESPECIALLY do not use it to describe your witchcraft. It is playing on the ‘magic gypsy’ trope, and is EXTREMELY insulting.
non romani people, please reblog this.
