Be Your Guide

An ATWOW fanfic (fem!reader insert)

Note: reader enters the story as “Rayti”, the daughter of a strong healer of the Omaticaya clan. The fic begins after the abduction of Spider, and the reader is worried for her friends upon hearing about the sudden targeting of Jake Sully and his family.

Be Your Guide

“Leaving?”

“Yes, ma child”, the mother replied as she combed through the unruly locks of her eldest daughter. Aside from the occasional tug on tangled strands, she weaved her fingers to calm her troubled youth. The youth, in question, simply bowed her head in disheartenment. ‘Had they decided to stay, they’d be in danger’, she bit her lip in further dismay, ‘then we’d all be in danger’.

Though hidden away from the turmoil of the constant attacks and resistance between Na’vi and Sky People, she, among many, was not oblivious to the situation of the Sully family. Especially after news of the recent attack reached the ears of their community. She was hopeful, but reality surged to strike at their hearts, already torched alight by the violent operations against their foreign counterparts. Now Spider, her friend, had been taken; the rest spared and brought back safely. They needed a new plan, to guarantee safety for all of them. To save their stronghold from further peril. Of course, it was an eye for an eye, and a price was to be paid.

“So, it is agreed, then?” She was certain that a new Olo'eyktan was to be chosen. There would be a ceremony, and they would all have to see the family off…and then..

The mother, Nao’yri, held her daughter’s distraught face. She could easily read the mind of her beloved in one glance, and she never held any doubt if not in the current moment. No, today she knew what her daughter was thinking, and she didn’t like it. But it was not so easy to halt these gears turning in her head, nor wipe away the determination in her eyes. So, she held the smaller fist of this troubled youth and as their eyes met, it was as if their minds had connected.

“I hope you know what you’re doing, my Rayti”

~*~

The fire drew sprightly glows on the barren ground as Rayti and her mother drew closer to the tent of the Toruk Makto and his family. She could hear the adamant yet flourishing voice of her tribe’s Tsahìk from inside the weaved shelter as an accompanying Na’vi soldier stood by the entrance. He announced her presence and the voices died down. A friendly face popped from inside to greet her, and she couldn’t help but smile at the sight.

“Neteyam!” She scurried to the entrance as the Na’vi soldier turned away.

“Rayti! Come in!” The taller adolescent guided her inside with a pat on the shoulder, as his sibling rushed past him, eager to see her friend.

“Tuk! How are you? All okay?” Rayti stooped down to inspect the youngest, who was already laughing at her antics.

“I’m fine, sister! Mom and dad looked me over,” her voice dropped to a whisper,” It was really scary, though”.

Rayti could only manage a smile at the others, Kiri and Lo’ak, as their father drew closer. “I understand you requested a talk on serious terms?”

“Yes.” Came Nao’yri’s reply. He gestured to the covered floor as the family sat once again, along with their guests.

~*~

The fire flickered and cackled under the heavy stares of its masters.

“I see, so you’d like to join us”, Jake frowned uneasily.

“Simply as an accompanying navigator,” Nao’yri continued, “My daughter believes that her acquaintance with traveling could be of use. She has flown many a time to distant regions in pursuit of the herbs needed for my remedies. She knows of a faraway tribe that could provide sanctuary. And additionally,” she turned to her daughter, eyes soft and smiling.

“I’d like to help, sir,” Rayti cursed the small waver in her voice yet continued, “We are indebted to you and your family, for you among many warriors have ensured the safety of this tribe,” she paused to make eye contact with each of the members of the family, which only strengthened her resolve.

“…it is only right that we as a community should see to yours as well.”

Jake eyed the girl’s eager, swishing tail as his Tsahìk spoke, “And, you can ensure this?”.

“It will not be easy, but I have trained Rayti well in my ways of herbs and medicine. She will be able to provide additional aid with this training. It will take many days and nights to get to this secluded region, away from the forest.”

‘Away from…your home’ Rayti held no doubt what this would mean for Jake and his family, especially Neytiri, who had already gone through so much before becoming Tsahìk. How much more hurtful would it be, to then be ripped apart from home in pursuit of a singular solution, to untangle your heartstrings from the vines of the Earth, and to set flight to a place where no one else could follow? But if she could do something for her friends…to hasten their escape… It would be indeed be painful for each of them, but she was willing to do what she could to help fortify their plans.

Crackle, pop

Neytiri and Jake exchanged a look. Less anxious now, Rayti intervened.

“I will be staying shortly to ensure your settlement goes smoothly, and after-“

“-After she does my work” Nao’yri emphasized tenderly, earning a swift nod from her daughter.

“-Yes, after I retrieve some plant samples. I will return to the Omaticaya clan without a trace of where I arrived from”.

Crackle, sputter

The silence felt suffocating, but Rayti held her gaze. Beside her, Nao’yri reached out to nestle her hand atop her fingers. ‘Would they be convinced?’ she wondered.

“We will discuss this. Your offer is appreciated and will be taken into consideration,” Jake nodded. Rayti’s shoulders relaxed, and she smiled in quiet thanks, oblivious to the siblings’ small grins and looks of amusement from seeing her fervid and curved tail movements. Yet it wasn’t a lie that they were shocked by her proposal and even thankful for her stepping up. Knowing her, she couldn’t stay away for long, but like a true friend, she’d always deliver.

You know, I love the Marvel movies, but they're doing something wrong that the comics did right. The movies are erasing important, distinctive parts of the characters.

Hawkeye is disabled/deaf in the comics, but not in the movies

You Know, I Love The Marvel Movies, But They're Doing Something Wrong That The Comics Did Right. The

Loki is genderfluid, yet we've only seen him as male in the movies

You Know, I Love The Marvel Movies, But They're Doing Something Wrong That The Comics Did Right. The

Wanda is Jewish and Romani in the comics, but she's played by a white person (don't get me wrong though I love Elizabeth Olsen and think she's doing a great job) and in Captain America: Civil War, Wanda had crosses on her wall in her room, which are clear Christian symbols

You Know, I Love The Marvel Movies, But They're Doing Something Wrong That The Comics Did Right. The

Joe Russo played the MCU's "first openly gay character" in Avengers: Endgame and the representation was so small that it was kind of insulting. Now, having said that, this means Marvel's taking a step in the right direction, but given their track record, I'm afraid they're going to straightwash Billy and Tommy Maximoff (if they grow older than children) like they did with Ayo (Black Panther), Mystique (X-men), and Valkyrie (Thor: Ragnarok). Plus, Billy, at least, isn't just a minor gay character. He and his husband are like THE LGBT icons of the Marvel Universe. They have a whole comic line just dedicated to their wedding.

You Know, I Love The Marvel Movies, But They're Doing Something Wrong That The Comics Did Right. The

(Plus, back to the Wanda being Jewish thing, you can clearly see Billy wearing a kippah at his wedding in the second picture, which is a Jewish cap. They did, in fact, have a Jewish wedding in the comics. She raised (or rather didn't????) her kids to be Jewish like her.)

I'm sure there are probably several other characters that have characteristics that are being overlooked that I haven't listed here, but these are just the few that I could think of. All I'm saying is I want more than just Tony's PTSD represented. Because that was also a real problem and I'm not ignoring that Marvel did do a good job of showing that. But I want more than that.

Unwanted Eyes

MCU Cast x Teen!Fem!Co-Star!Reader

Summary: You’re a teen Marvel cast member at their first red carpet. Things go well until one creepy dude can’t seem to leave you alone.

Word Count: 1.7k

Warnings: creepy dude sexualizing reader, brief non consensual touching of reader’s side (1 instance)

Requested by anon:

Hello S, I hope you’re okay 😌 may I request a teen reader x marvel cast? Where she like the “baby” in the team and everyone take care of her (like, there’re very overprotective); so maybe after a press conference where a reporter ask her a inappropriate question some dude try to grab her [ like what happened to Gigi Hadid in Milan : https://youtu.be/IjsPmjqmcvs ] so everyone freaks out?

btw, would you ad me on your taglist? 🥺🥺👉👈

A/N: I loved this request!! It took me a while, not just because of my hiatus but because I wanted to get this right because I love these prompts (I usually just ask writers for these instead of writing them so it was a challenge - but a good challenge!) Thanks for sending this in! :D

Resident impromptu marine biologist,

The flowers are thriving, you can see them from even the sidewalk below your balcony! I didn’t doubt you could grow them from just cuttings, but I’m still a bit relieved because, to be honest, I picked the types solely on their names. Fuchsia is simply too interesting of a word for me to dismiss.

Speaking of thriving, I’m sure the “mermaid” is doing just as well. Perhaps you shouldn’t have convinced that child the manatee was really a lost species, but I suppose that’s what he deserves for pounding on the glass so much - he should prototype inventions of the Talis family.

As you know, I lived near a river in the Undercity, but our visit was the first time I had seen anything larger than a minnow or crawfish. It was simply magical, though we probably shouldn’t have gotten candy floss before the whale show - after the splash, it seemed more like a disappearing act. I wasn’t aware creatures could grow that large! Rio was already a spectacle to me, though it was most likely because of how small I was at the time.

I’m sorry for cutting this reflection short - I realize our visit was already a week ago anyway, yet that doesn’t stop it from rebounding around my head like you did from glass pane to glass pane. I understand you were excited, but that won’t stop me from reminding you that you identified staff members inside the tanks cleaning as different species of fish twice.

Instead, I wanted to speak of last night, hopefully while seeming as much as like I am directly talking to you as I can. Ironic when I could quite literally do so by simply knocking on the door to your quarters, I know, but I thought it would be the most fitting in a letter - at least, the most sentimental. (Not to mention that I am tremendously anxious, but I’d rather not think of it at the moment.)

Speaking of sentimental, did you know that the café - the one we had our first meeting off school grounds at - has closed down? I could hardly believe it when I saw it this morning since I wanted to surprise you with a drink, but I've heard they're merely moving, so it should still be nearby.

Also, do you happen to remember the sachet of herbs you gave me? I know you told me it was only an old wive's tale that it helps with allergies, but I genuinely feel that my sinuses are clearer. If only all ailments could be cured so easily.

Wait, I'm getting off track - I can't believe I've had not one but two tangents in writing. I promise these notes aren’t usually this nerve-wracking, but this letter carries considerable weight; so much so that I am delivering it myself (again, a bit redundant, but I like to think it adds to the charm).

If there is one thing I may ask of you, it would be to please not think of me any differently.

Because of last night, an internal cauldron that I have been carrying for quite a while has finally boiled over. It had been brewing ever since you shook my hand across the library table, but the last evening simply pushed it over the edge. Everything about it seemed tailored to pull me to that realization; from our journey in continuing to find out which key belonged where to chasing those discoveries to the water wheel outside.

We didn't trade many words sitting on that ledge, but I'd never felt closer to somebody. I know I've told you I’m not one for physical affection, even avoiding an embrace or two from you, but I regret it immensely. Goodness, I think that plant from so long ago had held you longer than I ever have.

However, I have reason to believed that has all changed. Because of you, I've found out why people hug, why friends link arms, why a single pat on the hand can be important, why a brush on the shoulder can linger for hours. Yesterday, and so many days before, I felt, well... received, I suppose. I couldn't play with the Zaun children, I couldn't travel with the academy students, but I don't have to with you - because there's nothing else I want to see.

I felt like with my arms around you, I never had to leave that spot, never had to pick up my cane again, like I could merely drink in your happiness and live forever.

Above all, you've stirred the heated coals of my lost faith in myself and my scientific proficiency into a renewed smolder; that aspect heated the cauldron before I even saw your face. A little drop of dreams can only go so far, but you've turned both yours and mine into a river.

And I don't plan on building a dam anytime soon. Like we have all these months, I still want to dodge flashlights in the dark with you, to formulate increasingly outrageous excuses when they inevitably land on us, to ensure that you get more from this academy than an assistant job and a metal brace. To put it simply, I'm sure you've heard of the term "Cupid's arrow". In my case, he must've used a rifle - and he's a terribly good shot.

Perhaps this is all a bit forward. I hope you are not uncomfortable or feel obliged to be mutual in this, anything but that. I just felt it was only right to tell you. After all, are we not for progress?

By botanical (though maybe not scientific) terms, the tree of my life had become barren, and I could barely remember when my potential was a promise instead of a regret. When you came to sit under its branches they not only bore fruit, but also more types than I could ever imagine. I’m not certain of much in this world, but I know indefinitely that you are beautiful and that I want us to pick every fruit on that tree until the only thing left for us is to touch the stars.

I don't know, I may be overcomplicating this. In the end, I only have to use a few words to describe how I feel.

I love you.

♥ Viktor

Here's Something Stupid: The Catcatfish

here's something stupid: the catcatfish

Here's Something Stupid: The Catcatfish
Here's Something Stupid: The Catcatfish

some quick facts:

they're nocturnal and tend to roam around while awake.

they have keen senses of smell and hearing, but terrible eyesight. despite this, they also have a tapetum lucidum, making their pupils "glow" in the dark.

their fur is short, dense, and oily to waterproof them.

they prefer a diet of mostly meat and are attracted to strong-smelling food like fish, cheese, and anything fermented.

the elongated dewclaw on each front paw is sharp, flexible, and nonretractable. it injects a venom that causes respiratory failure and cardiac arrest in prey and, in extreme doses, humans. veterenarians typically remove the dewclaw venom glands during the neuter/spay procedure.

they grow to an average of 1m and 23kg (3ft and 50lb) but can reach up to double that length and triple the weight!

A tweet from the user @perferctsweeties reading: I’ve been taking some notes. It contains a picture of a venn diagram: on the left the caption says British people and in the circle it says “beans and toast” on the right the caption says ants and in the circle it says “can lift up to 5,000x their own weight” The two circles cross in the middle and the notes inside say “weird loyalty to their queen”, “innate instinct to line up single file and travel in a queue”, “takes things that aren’t theirs back to their colony”, “love for crumbly pastries”
Pinterest comments. The first from the user Moth! reads: who says we can’t lift things 5000x our own weight? The user real man answers: because then the pyramids would be in the British museum
