(This turned out a lot longer than I planned)
I feel like now’s the time to introduce my Honey, he is a daemon named Hydrus. Specifically a daemon that feeds on feelings of fear. Fear daemons are rare like sadism daemons (I feel like the ones that feed on ‘bad emotions’ are more rare. There are probably a lot of empathy/serenity/sex daemons. Correct me if I’m wrong though). He was a steward once but hasn’t been one since a certain empathy daemon named Regulus went rogue. When he heard about what he had done, he blamed himself for not guiding Regulus like he should have. From what I gather daemons are hardwired to farm the emotions that need, have different specialized abilities based on what they eat. Like how sex daemons can change their appearance to be able to suit anyones preferences. He has abilities that let him bend the shadows around him and create shadow creatures out of them. (If there is anything more universally feared than the dark, then it’s what lives in it) not to mention the fact that even without using his abilities, he has a generally rough and scary look and presence. He’s not actually that bad, a bit rough around the edges and a bit of a tsundere at times but he feels deeply. When it comes to his methods of feeding, he understands the emotion he needs isn’t generally wanted, but it is a necessity. In dangerous situations, fear makes the adrenaline and fight or flight kick in. Fear is meant to keep you alive, but it’s not always needed. He tends to feed at times like that, where it’s not endangering anyone and he doesn’t have to scare anyone more than he already does. He also likes to feed on fear from nightmares. It’s a situation that isn’t real and after he’s had his fill, the person slips back into sleep; none the wiser. It’s a win win. This habit lead to his steward, Andromeda, calling him her ‘little dream-eater’. He met Guy when he was coming back from searching for a nightmare and Guy was out delivering for Max’s. They (quite literally) ran into each other and Guy nearly fell in his ass. Hydrus caught him by the waist and stood him back up. Guy kind of just stared at this scary yet attractive stranger. Who was still holding his waist nonetheless. Hydrus uttered a curt ‘sorry’ and brushed past Guy. As Guy got back in his car he remembered to take deliveries in this part of town more often.
(I gotta cut this off here or I’ll go on forever)
So, the other day “[Not] ASMR | Pack Fight Night” appeared in my head as a concept and… this got long. I never thought I’d write a one-shot longer than “Fringes” ever again but here we are. This one literally took me several days It also switches POVs a lot so whose POV is it is at the top of their section, as usual. 7.6k words PS, I had to make up a couple wolves to fill out the roster. We had a bunch of their names but not enough and I needed more for the bracket.
CW: fantasy violence, mentions of blood, some Quinn memories

Darlin’
“So… let me get this straight. You’re having a bracketed tournament in the woods with your pack. Where y’all do one-on-one fights until someone is the champion,” Sam said.
“Yep.” I nodded, stretching my shoulders.
“Do all shifter packs do that?”
“How would I know?”
Sam made a noise of mild frustration, but didn’t give me attitude about my attitude. “Who all fights?”
“Whoever feels like they’re up for it,” I replied. “Usually the younger members. If they’re under eighteen they can’t fight without their parents’ explicit permission given to David, and there’s actually a separate bracket for those who are under eighteen. A little league sparring match, as it were. But everyone eighteen and older is the main event.”
“Who’s the reigning champ?”
“David. But that’s a given. The competition is for second place every year. We all know David’s gonna get first.”
“Alright. Who’s last year’s runner up?”
“Ash. I wasn’t here for it. The year before, Ash barely beat me out for second and I’m still bitter about it. So this year, I’m gonna try to beat him. But I might not even need to fight him. He might be on David’s side of the bracket so David can take him out.”
“Who makes the bracket?”
“An online generator. We just put in everyone’s names and it makes the line-up. Keeps it fair that way.”
“Anythin’ else I need to know?”
“Uh… sit with David, Ash, and Milo’s mates? If you want? Don’t be surprised when we’re brutal with each other? We play rough and always have. We’re shifters—it’s part of the deal. I don’t know. If I think of anything else you need to know, I’ll tell you.”
“Alright.” Sam shook his head.
We ducked into his car.

Angel
“This is gonna be fun,” I said, pulling my large plastic bag of popcorn out of the car with me. David climbed out of his side of the car and threw his jacket down on the driver’s seat, leaving him in just his jeans and tank top. Which I was absolutely shamelessly staring at. All chiseled muscles and skin gleaming softly in the moonlight.
“I agree.”
“Are you actually going to have fun?” I asked. “Or is this some sense of duty thing for you? Like, proving you’re strong enough to be the alpha?”
David leveled his vibrant green glare at me. “Tonight is a friendly competition, angel,” he said. “This has nothing to do with proving myself worthy.”
“Good. So that means it’s fun, right? You’re, like, capable of having fun?” I teased.
He swung an arm as though to try and catch me around the waist but I dodged away and started running up the trail. As always, we were the earliest to arrive so we had the hiking trail to ourselves.
I heard David’s boots crunching up the earth behind me. He was significantly taller and faster than I was, so I didn’t actually expect to get far.
I got maybe a dozen yards before he caught me around the waist and held me there—but he was smiling and laughing. “You are such a little snot, you know that?”
I laughed and squirmed, trying to wriggle free. “Yep!”
“You’re lucky that I love you.”
“Or what?”
“Or I wouldn’t put up with your teasing,” he growled. I kept laughing.
“Lemme gooo, Davey!” I protested.
“Why should I?”
“Because we still gotta set up for the tournament.”
“But you haven’t paid your Little Snot Tax,” he said.
“Which is what, exactly?”
“Give me a kiss, you menace.”
“You shoulda led with that,” I remarked, twisting around in his hold to do as he requested. I managed to keep the bag of popcorn almost as tall as I was out of the way to avoid it getting crushed as Davey’s arms held me tighter. Even in just a tank top and jeans, he was warm, pressed against me. He hummed quietly against my lips, acknowledging my words.
When he pulled away, his exasperated grin was fond, too. “C’mon. Let’s go set up.”
He held my hand and helped me up the trail. I didn’t need help, per se, but I liked letting him pull me. Made it easier on me.
When we got to the clearing, I set the bag of popcorn on the ground and slung my backpack off, pulling out the small red-and-white paper bags to distribute the popcorn out for the rest of the pack. Everyone else was in charge of bringing their own drinks and/or chairs, but we’d brought popcorn and a foldable table. As I started dishing popcorn into the white paper bags, David went back down the trail to go grab the table in the back of the car and our camp chairs.

Sam gently picking twigs and leaves out of their hair with a soft smile.
I lowkey want sam to take care of darlin after a shift
Him cleaning them up after a day with the pack playing and getting dirty
And them bein pouty amd telling him that they can take care of themselves
While they both know they're over the moon and back with happiness that they're with their mate
I firmly believe that Vincent is at least a little intimidated by Darlin.
I’m all for the hype about a video of Darlin meeting the Solaire Vamps, but I raise this. They met during the inversion.
We know that makers and progeny can feel each other’s emotions to an extent. I doubt that the wards could stop that connection, meaning William, Alexis, and Fred all felt Sam and Vincent’s panic when the shades appeared.
They all arrived at the stadium quickly, (Bright coming along too ofc) only to have to wait outside the wards. Once they fell they went searching through the crowd for their family. They find Sam in the chaos, just as they are about to zip over there. They catch sight of a giant wolf bounding towards him, only to shift back into a human last second to nearly tackle Sam into a bone-crushing hug, he returns it with just as much energy. The spectating vampires are caught by surprise as the two separate only for a split second before passionately kissing one another while holding each other as close as possible. This is the wolf Sam comes back smelling like? Fred is worried, but still happy for Sam nonetheless. Bright is surprised and confused. William is glad he’s okay and has someone to take care of him when he neglects himself in favor of others. Alexis stares at the exchange. Envy reigns supreme in her mind, not leaving much space for relief that Sam’s even alive. She watches as her progeny, and object of her immortal affections is held by someone else. She watches as the wolf clamps their arms around Sam as if to protect him from a threat that’s already passed, like the world nearly ended, and based on the way they held him so desperately. If anything were to have happened to him, it would have. It makes her blood boil. Eventually the two separate, the shifter pressing a gentle kiss to the top of Sam’s head. They look around and Sam catches sight of them. Bright and Fred run to him first, followed by William. Alexis hesitates, then follows.
Tank doesn’t miss the way Sam’s shoulders go tense under their fingertips as another vamp appears next to William. Her hair lays perfect even in the midst of a tragedy, her silver eyes didn’t look like Sam’s, or William’s. Their eyes are warm and kind. Her eyes are sharp and cynical. They can only assume this is Alexis, their grip on his shoulders tightens and they pull him closer. They weren’t there to protect him in the wards, but they’ll be damned if they let something happen to him now. Even if the thing they are shielding him from is his own maker and the first blood of a vampire king. They’d do it for him, they’d do anything for him. They would give him every star in the sky if he asked.
William stands in front of Sam as he briefly covers what happened, leaving out exactly what happened with Vincent and his partner. That’s for him to say. Once he finishes, William turns his attention to the shifter standing at Sam’s side. Said vamp notices William’s attention on the wolf, stiffening a bit. William extends his hand to the shifter, and they shake it firmly.
“I’m William Solaire, though you probably figured that out by now.” The wolf nods,
“Tank.” William quirks a brow at the name, a nickname he guesses. He feels a tug of envy in his chest; right where Alexis and her feelings lie. Looking over to his progeny he catches her staring at Tank, silver eyes piercing holes in them. They pay her no mind, they are too focused on Sam. This only seems to aggravate her more. Fred and Bright stand close to Sam but pointedly far away from the wolf shifter at his other side. He doesn’t blame them. The scars covering their body give them quite the image. They are young vampires, Tank must intimidate them, even if Bright’s trying to put on a brave face for Fred. It’s not just their appearance either; Their aura itself was on fire. The energy surrounding them was feral and wild, yet they were in perfect control of that chaos. Despite what he assumed many others would say before getting to know them, he thought that Sam had found a wonderful partner. He could practically feel the fierce loyalty they felt for Sam radiating off of them in waves. Their strength would always be used for him, never against him. Yes, Sam was in good hands with this wolf.
If your not in one of those then you’re in their trapezoid of hostility: run
Darling: If you're not in my circle of trust, you're probably in my triangle of suspicion, or my rhombus of doubt
Bright: *sneaking back into the house, turns on lights*
Sam: *turning around in his chair* you want to tell me where you were?
Bright: with Tank?
Tank: *turning around in their own chair* wanna try again?
Milo being in charge of booking the hotel for a security job and accidentally booking two conjoined rooms instead of separate rooms for everyone (Aggro stepped on the keyboard). Leading to a very disgruntled Alpha and a video sent to a group chat with all the mates and pack members still in Dahlia. Asher sends a recording of a dark room only illuminated by his phone flashlight. It’s shows about fifteen shifters spread out across two rooms. Some haphazardly splayed on the beds, some on little nests of blankets on the floor. Milo is shown to be lying half on the bed and half on the nightstand using a jacket for a pillow. Christian is laying properly on the bed, with Arden’s foot stuck right in his face as she lays diagonally with her face flat on the foot of the bed. Amanda lies next to Christian with part of her leg draped over Arden. Asher walks through the maze of shifters on the ground, pointing the camera to each as he passes. He walks into the next room to show Brooks lying on the counter. More shifters lie on the floor, Asher pans the camera to the foot of the bed to show Miguel almost falling off. Asher whispers to the camera,
“And you won’t believe this.” As he pans his phone to show David and Tank lying in the bed together, both having to sit upright to fit and leave room for Miguel. They are resting against each other comfortably. Tank sits with their arms crossed and head tilted slightly back as it rests on David’s head, which is in turn resting on their shoulder. He sits with his hands loosely in his lap. They sleep with a stoic yet calm look on their faces as the two wolves lean into one another. Asher turns the camera to himself and walks over. He carefully lays down on their legs, resting his head on his sweatshirt that he put in between Tank and David. He positions the camera so all three of them are in shot, as if he’s taking a selfie. Tank and David move a little in their sleep and the video abruptly cuts off. The last thing on the screen being Asher’s scared face quickly turning. The group chat laughs about Milo’s mistake and Angel fawns over all of them sleeping as a group. Sweetheart says they knew they should have checked the reservations for Milo. Sam just smiles at his wolf finally learning how to be with their pack.
Darlin calls Sam ‘shawty’ just for the look on his face after.
Definitely, and it catches Sam by surprise every time.
its canon the wolf boys just walk around the house in hardly any clothing do u think darlin also does this now that theyre more comfortable around sam
shaw pack when they have zoomies
david: does not have zoomies, okay? he is the alpha of a very respectable wolf pack not an overexcited puppy, angel... just because he's way more tense than usual, and keeps idly tapping his foot on the ground and disassembling then reassembling his pen, and can't focus on his work, does NOT mean he has zoomies... but if someone else wanted to go for a run he guesses that would be okay and he'd come along too...
asher: is already shifted and zooming! babe can spot incoming zoomies from a mile away by this point and is ready with a suggestion they visit the park or a hiking trail so asher can run around while they relax until he comes back super excited wanting to play around (tickle attack, play wrestling, throwing a frisbee around, et cetera) zoomie time is followed by snuggle and nap time!
milo: is extremely antsy, walking around the house from room to room aimlessly, opening the fridge then closing it, keeps checking the time for no reason, pacing around a lot... if he has nothing to do he gets extra anxious... sweetheart asks him to work out with them and they're completely blown away- they train a lot for work but milo's routine has them wheezing trying to catch their breath (and is also a very attractive sight)
darlin: is squirming around kind of a lot and their leg is shaking slightly, they can't get comfortable... they're used to either dealing with it alone or pushing through it but sam notices once and asks if they want to go on a run through the woods with him, they look at him like he hung every star in the sky and then the next second they're shifted and out the door, leaving him laughing as he speeds to catch up
